Being a GM in tabletop can apparently mean driving your players insane - I was surprised how "well" everyone repsonded to being surrounded by crazies and care takers. Hope they get out in the end...

My love-hate always kicks in when learning words without an equivalent in other languages, and complex meaning. It is amazing the word exists, but hard to grasp its usage.

The strangest thing about learning new languages is still that they have words your language can only desribe and vice versa: Torschlusspanik, dépaysement, l'appel du vide, madrugar.

I am out on a tournament for the next two days - so less answers, but hopefully a fun weekend!

Bio
I have some experience (well rather some years of experience) in roleplaying, but I am rather new here.
This will most likely not turn out to be the most helpful Bio, especially as I am currently blissfully unaware and somewhat apathetic to everything concerning cosmetical possibilities. It is partly due to the fact that there is no fascinating, wonderfully rounded and polished characters - I just fought I would share some insights about the things I like.
For the roleplaying part I came here looking for something rather relaxed in a classical fantasy environment. More or less along the lines of a typical tabletop adventure or classical side quest (or row of side quests) in gaming. I am also fairly interested in longer, more elaborate plots but currently not in the position to think one up and keep it running.
Apart from that there is a broad variety of settings I am interested in. It ranges from historically themed ideas over to our current time and world up to futuristic scenarios, including post-apocalypting settings in this range. Any of those might be high or low fantasy. In short it is not one specific slice of things that is fascinating me, it is the possibility to dive into another world. That is the reason why there is also a small set of fandoms I like.
I prefer creating my own characters for a roleplay. This means that I can easily create characters requiring a set of skills, sometimes even character traits, but I often have a hard time to fill a pre-shaped role already described with character traits and (parts of a) backstory. For me this creation process is an important step when immersing into a new world.
Before finally concluding I should mention that the better part of my characters has at least dark spots in their history or behaviour. Many of the topics touched are mature, so if you feel unconfortable (or just aren't mature) please inform me beforehand. I usually also try to outline the problematic traits beforehand.
To round things up: If you found something interesting here, or have an idea that you want to share, just send me a message. It would surely make me happy!

So this is not about the typical flaws like stubborness or greed. It is rather about the kind of character flaw making you think "Oh God really" that in the end still worked out (in a way).
To start it of with two examples which are not mine, but funny enough:
- A highly skilled, well educated mage from an academy, now travelling with a group of adventurers. A nice guy - but he can only perform spells when naked. No he usually does not travel naked.
- A wizard again, but this time so vain and arrogant that he thinks himself higher than the emperor himself. Arrested for trespassing around the castle? Oh the owner is wanting an audience with him, he may allow it! Having to travel in a wagon with the group? Let's refurbish the cover by magically drawing his face on it! I guess the best so far was when someone was genuinely flirting with him. He did not pick up the hints, everybody loves him and it is usual to show this by annoyed glances and scoffs, why is she smiling so much?
I am quite new around here and I figured a little check could not hurt.
A few notes beforehand: I like to write a few up to many paragraphs and would expect to get at least one paragraph as a response. A lot of my characters, especially in modern scenarios, touch 18+ topics and there are chances that plot will swing that way - so you are warned.
So a little glance at what I am looking for:
Ever did some side quests in a game or had a DM sent you to a small dungeon crawl or filler adventure? This is the vibe I am going for. A scenario where characters, for one reason or another, decided to travel together for a while, face challenges and develop whichever kind of relationship fits them. All that set in a classical medium to high fantasy world with different races, monsters, mages and so on. The main roles I have at hand fitting to this are a young man who is a very renowned tracker and plant expert. He spends most of his life outside of cities and villages, expect for very harsh winters or the odd times when he decides to sell some goods, repair his equipment or to look around for a mission. In some cities he is also renowned as a follower of the god of travel and whenever he has time will try to entice people to go out and see the world - much to the disliking to some nobles, which makes it more entertaining for him regarding his hatred for that class. As a contrary to this I have a female alchemist who just finished her apprenticeship and went out to see the world. She is most versed in the creation of poison and some other potentially harming substances but has learned to create many marvelous things during her apprenticeship. She furthermore learned a lot about etiquette and social interactions as she grew up in a big city. For the same reason she is very well versed in staying unseen if she needs to, combined with her skill in climbing this helps her to get to places she was never supposed to go. For very apparent reasons she normally does not tell these things to strangers, to them she is just a traveling alchemist.
If you would meet Noemi in the street you would definitely and immediatly be sure that she is many things but nowhere near to being normal. The first thing most people notice is the bright teal strand in her otherwise brown hair. It does not get any more common when coming nearer, she usually does her best to differ from the people around her. Her most beloved earrings are created from resistors, her wrist band is made of multiple colorfoul stranded wires and closes through by clicking a male into a female connector, more often than not she will be wearing a shirt with a painfully nerdy juke or a dress printed to resemble circuit board wiring or something familiar. People easily guess that she must have a relationship to computers. They're not wrong, they just underestimate things. The young woman is what people call a technopath. Somebody able to manipulate technology by sheer will power alone. An ability enabling opening many possibilities for her, especially in the age of digitization. Sure, it comes at a prize e.g. including the fact that silence is something she nearly never experiences. But it is so amazingly potent! Well that was also what the people who took her in when she was just a child and trained her thought. They were right. She was very helpful to the organization and for a few years everything went smoothly. But at one point Noemi started questioning things and ideologies and she was lucky enough to do this in silence. And after a while she decided that the answers she found were not very... agreeable. Next thing the organization knew is a rather big breach resulting in some chaos and her parting from them.
The story itself is somewhat flexible and open for a plot. It can be integrated in a world like X-Men where powers exist. It was once created as a world where most people are normal, only some of them are born with special abilities and only some of those are ever trained in using them such that they end up in control over their powers. Governments and a few private organizations are the only ones knowing and do the best to keep things that way. Some plot building beforehand would still be required. I have a few vague ideas, but as Noemi is mostly a very helpful young woman and can fit in many scenarios I would also look forward to somebody else's ideas!
Keira has grown up to know... everything. Her father was a hunter, met her mother during work when both were following the same something and a few years later she was born. After that most of the time either her mother or her father would stay with her - a baby is not really helpful during a hunt - or her grandmother would take care. When her mother died, surprisingly of natural causes, her grandmother was there more often such that her father did not need to take her with him. As she had just entered kindergarten this was probably for good. He still trained her as soon as it seemed sensible, so besides going to school she started to learn about the supernatural, fire weapons, fighting, materials and how to get information from people without getting in trouble or being put into a nuthouse. As she grew older her father took her on trips with him. Short trips. He never liked the fact that his daughter wanted to go with him. He knew full well that she wasn't completely healthy and although she knew how to take care of herself the risk seemed to high for him. But what would you do against a teenager? Apparently at least some of the words uttered when she traveled with him reached her, as her urge to go hunting subsided a little bit with time. This did not mean she didn't want to be part of the fun. She just understood that she was fully able to do some things, but others were to be left to other people. There were still so many things to do. Bit by bit, first besides school and later on during university, she read and learned and created libraries and catalogs of information, databases of clues. Keira learned how to set up fake email addresses and phone numbers, how to forge information and papers and how to use all this to support hunters. At first it was just her father but slowly people asked him or her if she could help them and entered her network. By the time she finished university she had grown into a source of information and support for a medium network of hunters and such. She helped out whenever somebody called, she created the illusion of being an authority figure or whatever was needed if someone needed to confirm his "background" and from time to time she took her own odd jobs. And she stayed on the look for signs that something was going on that somebody needed to investigate. This was mostly her father, but as he recently passed away she has started to just call people on her lists - what else is she supposed to do?
The setting is supposed to be placed into the same world as the show, but probably before the main time line or maybe early episodes. I don't care all too much if it is in America or Europe, both could work out well. To start things off I would have a scenario in her home town which she would not be wanting to take on alone, therefor searching through her contacts for someone who could help.
Besides what is listed above there are a few other things for which I have some ideas, but do not have something resembling a plot:
- Modern times adventurous to slice of life / drama (warning: characters tend to be psychologically scarred) - X-Men universe - Post-apocalyptic scenarios - Historical times, especially around the 18th / 19th century
The list is most likely not complete, but I do my very best to keep the things listed where I can offer a plot or character outline.
So, if you are interest, reply or send me a message!
I hope some other people also find amusement in their off moments and want to share them.
This is not about mental illness, it is rather about the more or less frequent "brain fart" moments or the strange ideas that pop up from time to time. I will just start with two examples:
A very long time I had the urge to put a spoon in any pot of tea or coffee I was having at home. Would be alright if I wouldn't stick to taking tea without sugar, milk or lemon.
A more recent one is the urge to jump into really big puddles - especially when I am in a bad mood.
Alright so I included the header (sorry I missed it when creating the CS) and resized the image.
For the runes: I worded it wrongly. The bow is engraved with runes, allowing for a higher precision in given situations. To be more precise I would propose that the runes enable her to once a day make a way more precise shot as long as she is continually concentrated on her target. E.g. under normal circumstances hitting a fiend in the eye from a distance would be very difficult and require quite a bit of luck. The runes would allow her (in my idea by catalyzing her own magical energies, such that she has to recover a day) to strengthen the connection she has to mentally make with her target point and therefor easing the shot.
I guess in normal days life she uses it for hunting rather than anything else, where the strengthened collection helps in finding the correct moment for the shot and correctly estimating distances and maybe movement patterns.
Is this understandable..? I would update the CS if it is.
Especially with that reply, I have another question from the side of a non-mage. Or maybe really some questions.
First would be the use of magic in "normal" crafts, such as: Is it common for someone to improve their craft with magic either by unconsciously channeling some of it during production or through learning of explicit runes / enchanting procedures? Are magical items (lamps, storage ..) / weapons common at all or special as only trained sorcerers create them?
And how does magical affinity show for people not formerly trained? Are they aware of surrounding magic or is it just the general possibility to make use of it without any real implications?
