Alter Ego: Sanderson “Sandy” Hawkins
Codename: Sand
Gender: Male
Age: 30 (Exact age unknown)
Species: Human (Metahuman)
Birthplace: New York City, New York
Appearance:

• In Costume – Sandy’s Sand costume is very plain. It is a black, insulated, bulletproof, waterproof and highly durable bodysuit that covers him fro, the neck down. The suit was designed with stealth and agility in mind. On top of the body suit is a full body holster that holds all his gadgets and equipment, and like his suit it was tailored to fit and made for strenuous activities. He also wears brown leather boots with a hidden compartment. On certain occasion, mostly for cover work in public he will also be wearing a dark brown trench coat and a large brown fedora like the original Sandman once did.

• Out of Costume – Out of his costume Sandy is a young looking, but weather beaten man in his early thirties. He has sleepy blue eyes reflective of his perpetually tired and often sleepless state. His hair is naturally blonde, but has darkened over the years now looking like that of a rocky and earthy beach which if the only thing not covered by his costume. His skin has a naturally olive tone to it. He has a fit and athletic body matching that of someone who is at his peak physical form.
Abilities:
• Prior to the “accident” that turned him into a sand monster Sandy was just a normal human being with hero training, but as always accidents always lead to powers. When Wesley Dodds managed to subdue sand monster Sandy he had to put him into a state of suspended animation to keep Sandy’s body from disintegrating into nothing but sand. After decades of being in a suspended animation, Sandy returned to normal and woke up in the 21st century with his sand based powers in control.
• Although he is not quite used to his new abilities yet Sandy is capable of temporarily turning into malleable sand like creature, partially or fully. First of all this power allows him to quickly compress and reshape parts of his body to increase his offense and defense. Secondly, this power allows him to shoot short blasts of sand that can knock people over. Lastly, this power allows him to turn into sand, which he can control though telekinetic means allowing him to use the smallest of crevices as an opening or as a way to teleport over short distances. When he is in sand form parts of him can be blown away, but he can and will be able to reform his original body as long as a large enough clump of his original body is nearby. In theory Sandman be very powerful just by using this power, but his lack of experience, poor control, and intense fear of becoming a sand monster again and disintegrating into nothing has put a severe block on himself. On many occasions, he has shown dislike for this power and to a point that he doesn’t want to use his power at all unless it is a life threatening emergency.
• In the decades of slumber Sandy, due to his connection to Wesley Dodds was able to traverse the realm of Morpheus, Dream of the Endless. In the Decades that he spent wandering aimlessly in the realm of the dreams and stories Sandy was present in the passing of titles from the old to the new king of dreams. Much in the same way Sandy would take the name of Sandman from his master and father figure Wesley Dodds, Daniel Hall took over the title of Dream of the Endless from Morpheus the first Dream. This process gave Daniel the abilities of his master has in the same way he first did. When Sandy wakes up he would have the power to have prophetic nightmares. (Sandy doesn’t know why he had this power though, but I wanted to explain it anyway.)
• The prophetic and precognitice dreams that Sandy gets are much weaker and fewer than that of his master because he acquired them second hand, but are still quite useful for missions. It is a reactive ability that only works when the event In the dream is a few days away from happening. Unlike Wesley Dodd’s who has mastered the art of understanding his dreams Sandy is still a newbie therefore the visions he gets are often unclear. Most of his dreams are normal and rather forgettable like other people, but the dreams with visions in them are highly memorable and often traumatizing.
Skills:
• Sandy like his master and father Wesley Dodds is a criminal investigator before being a hero of any kind. Like other detectives in the League like Batman, The Question, The Elongated Man and Martian Manhunter Sandy is also skilled at investigative work, but compared to them Sandy has the double edged sword of having prophetic vision that give him clues to the mission. On one hand he gains clues quickly and has the upper hand, but on the other hand he gets them through nightmares and has hindered his ability to become a master detective.
• Without his powers, any powers Sandy is a trained martial artist and weapons expert. He is highly capable of fighting using his own body to defend himself and to get out of tough situations. Like Black Canary Sandy prefers hand to hand combat rather than using his powers because of hi relative distrust and fear of his powers. He uses his own battle prowess in tandem with the assortment of weapons that carries with him at all time, the most prominent one being his gas gun, which can put most people to sleep in seconds.
• Under Wesley’s tutelage as Sandy the golden boy he has also picked up on the inventive and technical smarts that came with being a hero. After his state of suspended animation he has further developed his technical knowledge in chemistry, herbalism, and weapons engineering.
Equipment:
• Prior to having any sort of powers Sandy has relied on his devices to get the upper hand in any number of situations. The equipment he has is similar to the equipment that his master Wesley Dodds once used.
• Like Wesley Dodds, the original Sandman Sandy possesses a gas mask and the gas gun which is one of the most prominent gadgets of Sandman.
• The gas mask, which also acts as a mask to protect his identity covers Sandy enquire face which filter the air surrounding him making him immune to any sort of airborne toxin or attacks and comes with a self preserving purified air that allows him to breathe in the harshest of conditions for several minutes. The gas mask also comes with goggles that come with cybernetic vision enhancers allowing him to see in the dark, infrared, thermal, etc, and had a digital recorder inside that upload all information to his own personal computer.
• The gas gun that he carries is a modified and enhanced version of the original gas gun by Wesley Dodds. It is a much smaller, but more powerful version that can shoot out one or multiple types of gases allowing for layered effects. The gas gun works on a set of automatic of six revolving chemical cartridges that increase the output and effectiveness of the gases. Among the cartridges is the original and still highly effective sleeping gas that Wesley Dodd’s himself invented that puts anyone who inhales it to sleep in a matter of seconds and other cartridges like the truth serum , stun gas, smoke, tear, and the rarely used combustible gas that explodes from the smallest of sparks.
• Other equipment and gadgets commonly used include the wirepoon gun, the gas grenades, sleeping darts. The wirepoon gun is a dual purpose weapon that can shoot out small harpoons or a grapple depending on the setting. The gas grenades are just that, grenades that have work on set timer that can release bomb version of his chemical weapons. The sleeping darts are an in case of emergency type of weapon that contains a liquefied and purified form of the sleeping gas which is stronger and more lethal a elephant tranquilizer.
• He carries all of these in his costume which comes with a modified full body holster.
Personality:
• Sanderson “Sandy” Hawkins is a very serious and intense man. Having been an orphan for most of his life Sandy had to learn how to be an adult very quickly and as an adult many of his qualities stay the same. He has high emotional defenses, keeps to himself, introverted, and prefers to stay in the shadows. For the most part he is polite, cordial and respectful to people, but he is not friendly or welcoming in a sense that he will not go out of his way to be a person’s friend for the sake of being friend. He is often seen alone staing of into the distance thinking about something or meditating.
• In spite of how he comes off he is a kind person who is very loyal to the heroic cause and his allies and always there to help. Often times he acts as the voice of reason and logic and approaches problems in the same way, which can conflict with many other heroes especially the emotional ones. He is not a stickler for rules and is willing to break them, but he is tightly wound up in that he keeps his distance, sticks to his pattern and doesn’t let anyone in on his personal life. The few people that he does get along with are the types that don’t share much about themselves as well which includes The Question, Nemesis to a professional degree Batman.
Biography:
• Sanderson Hawkins was born during the Great Depression. His birth mother was decent enough of a woman who remembered her every now and then, but she had horrible taste in men who took control of her action. He didn’t know his birth father and nor did his mother and even though he had many “fathers” none of them really stuck. It was already the early thirties when Sandy was already living by himself in his mother’s apartment and whoever her new hubbie was. He pick pocketed, fought, cheated, lied, and sneaked to survive in the streets of New York where the police were more corrupt than the mafia.
• Like every other teenagers in the area Sandy attended school, but only in name. In truth Sady spent most of his days in the library where the isolation was a far better teacher. He would be inside the library whenever he wasn’t busy trying to keep his mother alive, which was a rare occasion. Sandy read many stories that inspired him to better himself and his mother so one day they could get out of their hell hole and live in a better place, but like in a book there’s always a twist. The twist in his life is that only he will get out of hell, his mother doesn’t because she dies in an “accident”.
• The police were no help, which was not a real surprise. Sandy knew that his mother did not die in an accident. He was furious and driven to get to the truth as such he became a detective and solved his mother’s murder, and solve it he did. He gathered evidence, found witnesses, tracjed down the killer, and dragged him with a bloody fist to the police. His tenacity, intelligence and natural detective prowess gained the attention of one Wesley Dodds, also known as Sandman, crime fighting detective of New York city.
• Wesley who saw a future in the boy quickly adopted Sandy. Wes, a kind, but paranoid man raised Sandy to be someone like him, but better. Their relationship was anything if not rocky at first, but kindness, love and a sense of friendship among intellectuals eventually forged a way for the two be father and son. The two, being one and the same type of people lead to Sandy finding out about Wesley’s night affairs and eventually to him becoming Sandy, the Golden Boy Sandman’s young sidekick, superhero, and detective apprentice.
• In the few short years that they were Sandman and Sandy many things happened. One of the best things to happen was the two of them meeting Dian Belmont. Dian Belmont was a young, beautiful, intrepid, and smart mystery writer who found trouble to inspire her many award winning novels. Wesley and Dian fell in love, married and shared custody over Sandy as their son. Dian, being a detective herself quickly found out about their nightly duties and joined in, but not as a superhero, but as their helped. For a while, everyone was happy, but happiness does not last for long.
• Wesley, being a multitalented millionaire did many experiments to enhance his repertoire. One of his experiments was a rousing success. He wanted to create a special self-replicating silicate compound that would be a literal dream sand once infused with his sleeping gas, but it came with a price. The price for this success was Sandy, who was present and actively participating in the experiment being turned into a living sand monster. Wesley subdued the monster, but Sandy was stuck in a sand form that would disintegrate without the cure. Wesley had to put his son in a state of suspended animation where he would have to wait until a cure could be found.
• Decades later into the 21st century, Sandy was cured. Decades passed, Wesley Dodds and Dian Belmont-Dodds passed away years ago and his body having only aged good ten or so years. The man who woke Sandy up was the grandson of Wesley’s brother, in other words Sandy’s only living relative, his grand first cousin. In the years that he was asleep Wesley put everything he could to cure Sandy and he did. The cure eventually worked, but the process would take too long, much too long that Wesley died a few short years before Sandy woke up.
• In the years that he was away, the Dodds family fortune increased in size due to Wesley’s natural ability to predict stocks and knowledge of which businesses would grow. Dian created a subsidiary company called Belmont Books, which became one of the largest publishing company to date. Sandy, having no idea what to do with himself Sandy decided to do the one thing he did know. He became a superhero once more.
• Sandy Hawkins, reclusive, young multibillionaire became Sand, precognitive crime detective who takes down corrupt organizations, political leaders, gangs, and the occasional street thug. Hiding away from the public Sandy expanded his knowledge and trained himself in the hope that he would one day make Wesley proud of him. Joining the League was a no brainer since it was what Wesley would have wanted him to do.
