It seems to me have decided to stick with Japan, at the least somewhere in Japan. I was originally against it, but now that I have a general idea of where this is going I think I know who I can play.

I agree with the above. Limiting ourselves to a specific area binds our characters and by extension the mythology to a certain region. I myself am a big fan of Japanese folklore because of my anime centered origins I don't think this can apply to everyone. Having an unspecified "town" with no known address adds to the bit of mystery surrounding the place.
