An arrow whizzed through the air and the mushroom man let out a hiss.
There was a splash, followed by a battle cry. The water in the pond lit up and sparks of electricity filled the room. Harper backed away and watched as the creature flailed and writhed, water splashing everywhere. It continued to screech for a few more seconds before it went quiet and slowly began to sink. In it's place, several fishes surfaced, their bellies up and eyes wide open.
"We did it," there was no rush of triumph, just an emptiness. "We killed it." Harper focused on the dead fishes and didn't even bother to look up. Inadi began congratulating everyone and the boy nodded numbly. "Yeah, everyone was amazing. Leila...those shots were great. Ace, you already know you're awesome." He cracked a smile and gave his friend a small laugh. Sulking around her would do him no good, she'd only try to make everyone smile and he really didn't want to trouble anyone. Ace was like a candle, whenever she walked into a room she brightened things up, he was thankful for her infectious laughter. He needed it, Jasper needed it, and he figured that some of the others did too. "Thanks for everything, Inadi." He nodded his head at the older boy and mustered up a smile.
The cave was quiet now and they were safe. Silly, how moments ago he thought they were doomed.
Harper dropped to his knees then fell onto his back, he didn't care about his wet clothes or the damp floor. At the moment, the only thing that mattered was the present. They were alive and they still had a chance to go home.
The adrenaline began ebbing away and he felt tired. "I thought we were going to die, y'know." As soon as the words left his mouth he laughed a little. "I hope the others are alright." The liquid in his amulet was low and his muscles ached. "You guys do think they're okay, right?" Nowhere was so crazy and unpredictable. Chatting, just talking even though it was about death and frightening things felt good--normal. "Sorry about that. I mean, we'll find them...and then we can all go home."
Did Lesley just call her a weirdo?
"Wait? What? Says the guy with pink hair!" She gave him a look that was supposed to be threatening but failed. Riley's attention was snatched away by the orc when the thing began sending rocks in all directions. Suddenly, Leon was sent flying and she looked pissed in his stead. "No one hurts my teammates!" She declared bravely before Lesley launched himself at their foe.
Rainbows began flying in all directions and the girl froze, staring at the several colors with her mouth ajar and eyes wide.
Everything happened so fast and Jasper, the timid healer actually stabbed the thing in its eye. "Whoa...way to go." The creature let out a wail, the attack obviously hurting it. Magic, it could dodge, but a stab to the eye, no siree! "Hey windy," Riley gave Leon a giant grin and a wave. "Could you help me out with a gust of wind?" Before she could see him respond the girl ran towards the orc and leaped into the air. The wind beneath her feet shifted and she was propelled upward, the girl extended her arms and fell smack dab on the orc's dashing and chiseled face.
She wrapped her arms around its neck and held on for dear life. "I have tamed the beast--" The thing tried to shake her off and she let out a yelp. "I have it, someone go for the arm band!" Riley didn't know how long she would be able to hold on, the thing was thrashing around a lot.
