Admittedly, biotics(indeed, the ability system in general) are hard grasp and use at first. But stick with it and keep using the wheel and you'll eventually use it with nary a thought.

Even if you aren't going to use a power, the wheel is your best friend. It lets you stop time and get a good look at a battlefield, get other enemies targeted, calm down a bit if things get too hairy... all in all, USE THE WHEEL.
