Hmm, I moderately disagree with Free on one point. I don't mind some hopelessness, some truly insurmountable challenges. but all in moderation.

I don't mind some. Some. What I hate, is being constantly, CONSTANTLY, being grinded under something's bootheel. This constant spiral of failure and hopelessness is actually honest-to-god depressing me. I feel like utter dogshit when I have my character's big heroic sacrifice just... just ignored. Or when the only time anything get's done is when a fucking god decides to bail me out. It makes me feel like my character is worthless, and is merely a background character while the really important people are doing stuff.

I mean and then what?! More come, and before they can eat her lifeless body more gods come out of fucking nowhere and save her ass again, completely undermining any feeling of usefulness my character had as the only way to accomplish anything is when someone stronger bails your ass out?!

I had to pour absolutely everything, absolutely EVERYTHING into felling one. By virtue of there just being more, that was pointless, futile! Why even play if bullshit like that is just gonna happen! What is even the point of doing shit! IIf all these demons are always that goddamn powerful, what chance does anyone have? We should all just give up now...

A joke, a jester, a 'jape in jammies.I forgot that this attack on the college is suppose to be more than just a showcase of the teacher's powers. It should be a taste of how everyone is to the demonic threat. Some would try to ease the adventurers into the story with the pretense that there is bigger things out there they need to grow stronger to face. But I was never one to make up such half-faced lies. No, what I should do, should have done a long time ago, is show them what sort of threat they're facing, and just how far we need to go to stop it. Right now each of you need to use teamwork and the fullest of your abilities to take down one, maybe two demons. There are thousands more, each of equal or greater strength. It's time to show how small you are in this big world.

Because nothing's more fun than fighting crap that outperforms four of your character combined, and numbers in the thousands. Yup, nothing like that sense of futility to keep me going.
