Shape-shifting only works for Others because they have detailed knowledge of what they are shifting into, if a normal human tried it would kill them because they messed up. I was actually thinking about a character who was at odds with themself. On one end they have an overwhelming urge to do what's good, to be "holy" in a sense. On the other end they have a "growing darkness" inside of them that's starting to bleed into who they are. Thus when he shapeshifts he randomly changes into two different forms representing two different sides. Cliche as fuck it is, I was going to have those two forms be angel an demon.
Possibly at a later point, way later point, at a point of extremity, the two forms become the same, and very unstable.
