Gretchen Vim

Outside the walls of Kallstad, Northen Gate.

She pulled her cloak closer to her, the cold of the winds blowing from the frozen north biting through even her thick layers of clothing. Bitter winds and biting cold was the norm for Kallstad. Summer brought nothing but a mild change of temperature and a slight lessening of the winds that blew.

Which was probably why she was rather surprised an Abyssal had joined her party. While they were superb hunters, unmatched in agility and maneuverability as well as their skill in the bow, their wings were rather susceptible to the cold, and the unpredictable winds were rather hard to fly in. Or so she heard. Gretchen did not have a pair of leathery wings to put that to the test.

"Tell me, Fyarlfyre, what are your reasons to join my modest expedition in to the cold heart of the Bitewind plains? Would not your wings freeze and break should you try to fly? Or yourself hampered should you decide to walk like the rest of us?"

The Abyssal smiled at the word, Farflyer it meant, an old word for their kind. He himself had already covered himself in warm pelts, especially around his wings.

"I may not be able to fly though the bitter winds, but I assure you my skill with the bow, and my experience as a tracker and guide would be invaluable to your cause. As long as we hit the treasure as you had promised us. And call me Victor."

Treasure.... Gretchen smiled at that word. The only treasure she had promised them was the discovery of new lands, and that was written as well in the contract, witnessed by one of the Goddess' priestess, signed in blood, and copied a few times over to make sure eveyone has one for referrence.

And so with about twenty men, five barghests to pull the five wagons, and her own pet, Gretchen muttered a quiet prayer to the Goddess, and took the first steps in her journey across the Bitewind plains.
The Left Hand of the Goddess

Verde Parla

The Daughter.... the Avatar... and her old friend the Right Hand and herself as the Left. Their names were cast away as the responsibility of being the Goddess' four Pillars was put upon them.

But that doesn't mean she cannot still remember her own name, or her friend's name for that matter. Millia of the Silverbeard would give her that scathing look whenever she refered to her in her own name instead of her title of the Right Hand.

She sighed, her hood drooping as she did so.

Millia never called her Gwenyvir anymore; it was always Left Hand this or Left Hand that. Not that she didn't understand, for true names have power one would not usually expect, but still... it would be nice if the Right Hand, Millia, would refer to her as Gwen like they used to.

But now was not the time to reminisce about the good ol' days...

"Ah, Merdyr, Mhirnae di bessi!"

A fat lady was waving to her from a stall.

The Left Hand was all but recognizable in her disguise. No more was the dark hooded jacket, with its large pair of eyes on the top and three slightly smaller ones on the tail flaps, no more was the close fitting thread she had made herself. In its place she wore a simple maiden's garment of white and green, her hair done up in a ponytail, and her face markings were washed off.

In short, she looked like a normal pretty girl getting the groceries instead of one of the Pillars responsible for managing, manipulating and acting on information.

"Mhirnae di bessi, Yolda. How are the farm today?"

"Oh, just so you know, it was perfectly fine until that wretched fellow-" The Left Hand maintained her look of interest, nodding and exclaiming in all the right places. "Oh did you know? Someone managed to strip-" a slight pause as the lady leaned in closer"- our very own Daughter. You know, the Avatar's Daughter? Well apparently they even managed to get a drawing done of her. "

"Oh! That rumour! Well, I heard from someone else, that it was a fake." The Left Hand leaned in closer. "Probably some lonely fellow out there lusting after her."

Rumors can be countered with another rumor. Have enough people talking about it, and even lies become truth.

If only it was less boring and less listening to women like this talk their butts off...

The Left Hand caught the eye of a man wearing a small rose like brooch on his left sleeve. He gave a discreet nod and a smile. That meant those in the housing area was doing their work as well, spreading the lies as truth to cover up the Daughter's blunder. If all goes well, she might even catch the culprit behind it. The Forhor Natchs under her beck and call was convenient.

"Are you smiling, Merdyr?"

"Oh, I..."

"Oh, tis no shame in a bit of mirth. His was really nothing compared to his boasts I can tell you that."

She only hoped she can solve this to the Avatar's satisfaction before the Forhor Nacths were called upon for their original purpose.

Rooting out heresy.

"...ah...wakarimashita.."

Scout out the area while those other two conduct a survey around. Easy enough, but still.... Why were they conducting a survey on orders of the Queen? At least she wasn't the one doing asking all the questions.

"So, we're to be the eyes of this operation." Again, the gentleman puffed out a large cloud of smoke around her. "Easy enough, though rather.... slow... . Shall we get moving?"

"..I'm going first.."

Mado started to run towards the southern part of the village, but slowed to a jog when she realized running full speed with a knife in her hand was probably a bad idea.

Again, she had scrambled into a pot on one side of the street. There was just a slight problem of the pot being filled to the brim with water, and that she was probably sitting in someone's drinking water. At least it had a lid on it, though she did wish that bucket beside her would stop bumping into her. The gentleman had said he'd hold on to he medicines and other things that would spoil in the water, so all she had now was her knife, and that old wooden handle in her pocket.

Suddenly she closed the lid, as she saw two 'men', a tunic wearing beaver and an aardvark wearing a tabard. Probably makes sense since aardvarks have their own armor.

"So whats this bout them rumors about people movin up in that old cabin out in those woods?" she heard one of them say. Pushing the lid slightly open, she concluded it was the aardvark's voice.

"Daft, the lot of them." The beaver moved closer to the pot. "I think we need only one bucket of water this time."

"For what?"

"Your stinking pot of soup that what. You always-"

*SPLASH clunk*

Both of them turned to the pot, which now has a bucket of water sitting outside of it. Mado had taken out the bucket filled with water and left it outside, making sure their backs was turned before she did it.

"Kad? I think your pot heard you, and left that bucket there."

"Nonsense, probably one of those pot monsters living in there." The beaver picked up the bucket and walked away, the aardvark following it closely. "Come along, our meal won't cook itself."

"What? A pot monster in this here parts?"

"They're migrating I think."

As their voices trailed away, she peeked out from under the lid cautiously, and then put out her head completely when she was sure the streets were empty. While that was a bit entertaining, eavesdropping on people, she found an empty house just across the street from the pot. Mado did recall she was supposed to break into empty houses like that Haku person said. But was she supposed to do it alone?

Unsure on how to proceed, she stood there on the street, her wet clothes dripping and clinging to her skin.

She had taken but a moment to clutch her head, trying to suppress the murderous feeling she felt flooding her head. A mere moment, and already they were upon her

Except the man had no feet..

"I doubt a pretty young thing like you would be our enemy, sistah'," Julian's voice was smooth and soft, and he also raised a brow as he smiled and crossed his arms. "I assure you, we mean no harm..."

"Ah..."The color drained from her face as soon as she realized what she was looking at, as soon as she realized the man's body was tapering into smoke like some genie from an old arabian story. Hayami's knees would have given out right then and there, if not for the voice screaming in her ear.

"FIGHT! FIGHT OR WE DIE!"

WIth a scream she simply released electricity around her, which caused Julian to flinch and fly backwards a bit, dissolving into his full smoke form. The electricity didn't reach him, but was emitted at a level in which he was kept at bay. However, despite his form, his voice still rang clear, seemingly emitting from the orb of smoke that floated around in front of the panicing girl. It echoed, just as smooth if not smoother than Julian's voice in his natural form, except with a more youthful touch to it. "Calm down, yulie, why the panic?"

Jules, she's probably possessed! Let's end this one, please? Julian's smoke form inched forward, ignoring his kage's plea, "Don't tell me... you're afraid, now, are yah, yulie?"

It doesn't... it didn't work... Her mind was too clouded with fear to really think clearly. She took a step backwards, and promptly toppled over the ledge. There was a feeling of weightlessness for a moment, a moment that felt like an eternity as she realized she was falling down the building. Julian instictly reached out to prevent the girl from falling, but his smoke form refused to dissipate fast enough, and before his very eyes, he watched the girl plummet. "OH GOD!" he cried out as he quickly burst into a futile attempt to fly downwards towards her.

The screams in her ear seemed distant, inconsequential as her life flashed before her eyes. Was she to die here? Alone, her body left crumpled like trash in the rubble of what was? She closed her eyes, hoping her maid at least, will survive...

"...Hilda...".

With all the strength she could muster, she sparked out as much electricity she could. At first, it seemed like a lost cause, but just short of hitting the ground, her rapid descent slowed, and then changed direction upwards.

"Ugh!"

She hit the wall with great force, but not as much as she would hitting the ground at terminal velocity.

"..mag...magnetism?"

Electromagnetism... and the steel supports in the walls. With her body charged up like magnet, it managed to slow her down enough to not be fatal. But now she was stuck to a wall with no real idea on how to get unstuck. As the girl lay stuck to the wall, with sparks of electricity going off in the immediate vicinity, the shadows that were cast on the building began to slowly swirl into shape. Gradually, the dark shade that covered the lower ends of the building stretched upwards towards the girl, and spiraled outwards, only to reveal the torso of a young man extending from what seemed like nothingness. Hayami gave one last effort to try and free herself, barely managing to get her hand out before it was pulled back to the wall. With all her energy spent to break her fall, she can barely manage to even generate a small spark. Raijin had become silent; Hayami could no longer hear him or even see his image.

As the man slowly looked up, his calm, authoritative voice cut through the commotion caused by the girl's decent. "Y'know... you were smart to not trust us. But at the same time... I promise you, you'll have no other choice. If you want freedom, that is..."

At that very moment, Julian's smokeform braked to a halt right infront of the girl, and he once again took on the 'genie pose' he was so comfortable with. "Damnit, you alright, yulie?" His voice exposed a genuine concern that Julian tended to exhibit for almost anyone around him, especially those who were noticably younger than him.

"...you tried to kill me..." she whispered.

Ishigo shook his head and crossed his arms as he looked forward, past the girl and into the streets beyond. "No. We tried to save you. The fact that we're talking right now indicates that either you still have control... Or I'm making a very big mistake." Ishigo's voice remained stern, but reassuring in a very strange way. He looked to Julian and nodded before disappearing back into the shadows. Julian chuckled softly and looked at the girl, his eyes expressing a very unique warmth about them. He reached forward and extended a hand, as if preparing to help her get free. "Trust me, yulie, we're the good guys. I promise you now, yah hear?"

Hayami looked at the hand offered, and gave an incredulous look towards the man in front of her. "...I... I'm kinda stuck..." Julian chuckled and reached forward, grabbing a hold of the girl's hand and attempting to pull her off. He added to his force by aiming his smoke trail towards the wall, propelling himself away from the wall on which the girl was trapped.

Pushing hard against the wall, she struggled a bit before popping free, sending her tumbling a few feet away. Now that she was free, Hayami pulled her hand away from Julian. "I don't trust you... But I'll accept that you don't mean me any harm." She turned away for a moment, but stopped. "I... apologize f..for shooting at you just before. I'm just... searching... for someone..."

With that, she considered all formalities had been dealt with, and walked away.Hilda was out there somewhere after all, and Hilda might be searching for her this very moment.

Julian had simply watched the young girl walk off, unsure of whether he was authorized to ask her to join up with them or not. Before he could decide whether or not to offer assistance, he felt a hand on his shoulder and turned around only to see Hector and the rest of the squad gathering around them. Hector's expression looked worried and he took a quick look around before speaking to Julian, "Just got word from the Zero, hermano. Shits going down. We need to get back there A.S.A.P." Just then Kisheto looked out from the side of the group to notice the girl walking away, "What the hell?! She's just a lone girl! That ain't cool, how can we just let her go solo like that?" This time, it was Ishigo's voice that introduced itself into the rendezvoused squad: "She seems capable, and we can't force her to join us. Besides, we're too close to freedom to let it slip." Julian raised a brow at his words, "Whatdya mean let it slip? What's happenin brothah?" Hector shook his head and looked back from the way the squad had came, "On me, let's move."
