The Midnight Train to Nowhere

Alone again, she sat on one corner of the room, examining her knife idly.

Mado Tsukihime found this situation all too familiar. Everyone, after gathering round for whatever reason they had in mind, all left to do their separate things, and one of them... one of them will suddenly die. Locked room optional.

How exciting the prospect. She had never been in a closed room murder mystery, or even a normal murder mystery before.

Mado sighed as she listened to the others telling their own stories. Her kind of stories weren't generally accepted she had learned. It was pointless for her to even tell stories about anything. No one would believe her, and no one would really listen to her long enough as well. Just as she was sitting in this room with them but still separated from the rest. Something she had noticed and accepted all her life.

The girl, Jasper if she recalled her name correctly, stood up and went upstairs, where she was presumably going to bed.

"...I should be going as well..." Mado spoke to no one in particular.

She did not go upstairs however, that would be reserved for those other people. Instead she headed outside, where she sat on a rather ricketty old bench. Or was it an unused shelf for potted plants? Either way it had something for her to sit on and a back for her to lean against so it was fine. She looked up towards the man walking towards her, maintaining his aura of dignity, of being a high class gentleman.

"Staying alone? I do hope you weren't thinking of sleeping on that... thing."

"I can't sleep." Mado stated. "I won't sleep. What if they come when I am sleeping? There is no one here who can fend them off if I do."

"Well then, allow me to keep you company throughout the night." He sat beside her, the bench creaking under his weight, but still holding together. "Now if we are to capture the siren's music, we would, of course, need a siren first. The paper, if I had read it correctly, had not mentioned anything about what it was exactly. Therefore...."

Mado kept silent as the man went on about what the siren's song was, nodding at the right moment to let him know she was still listening. When dawn comes, Mado should probably meet the mayor as one of them said, and then proceed to find a siren somewhere. She was so sleepy, but she had never succumbed to it yet.

The Faceless Man won't find her offguard tonight.

Personality: Introverted, and and generally unfriendly, she has a slight fear of people, and does not do well in most social situations. It does not help that she barely talks to anyone but her maid and the other staff in her mansion. Thus, she prefers being alone, and avoids people as much as possible. Being a librarian in her school helps, as she can immerse herself in books after class, with only a few people coming in to bother her there. While she was brought up to never ignore a person in need of help, she is more likely to run away and seek help than help the person herself.

Bio: Hayami Koihime was never one for being social. Her family, while rich, had only lavished their money on her, hardly ever home to lavish their love on her. During the time they do come home, their words of love and gestures of caring seemed empty, hollow. As if they were only going through the motions of it. Hayami understands what they do, and why they were travelling so much, but it was still rather to hold onto that understanding when she was alone in the house once again during her birthday, clutching the card they sent from wherever they currently were.

She was never one for being social. The other girls in the school reminded her of what she could have, what she could have been. Her own status as being the 'rich kid' puts her above the rest, and the ever silent maid following her around was a symbol of that title. Being above the rest also means you are on your own. People moved out of her way as if parted by some unknown power, people who suddenly bumped into her just apologized and ran away, people talked about her behind her back, spreading rumors of things she might and might not have done.

She hated them. Those people who spoke behind her back, those people who neglected her, those people who made her who she was. She hated them, but there was nothing she can do. Hayami herself was weak, even with all her wealth. Using her wealth to silence those people would just be flaunting her assets around, teaching nothing to them. All her wealth and influence, yet so powerless against them.

Its personality is more animalistic, base, going on by instincts instead of reason. It has only basic intelligence, speaking in broken fragmented fashion, but it has a high level of cunning, able to think through most situations and devise plans.

With a nod to herself, she closed the book and slid it back on the shelf. Honestly, her juniors were almost as bad as monkeys, leaving their books strewn around. However, it was kind of refreshing to see those people taking an interest in books. Most of her classmates or those from the same year as her didn't have an interest in books. Perhaps those comics, but those hardly counts as books in her opinion. Her juniors seems to be more tolerable as well, they didn't seem quite as intent on badmouthing her whenever she turned around, and they actually greeted her. Perhaps it was because they didn't really know her well.

"Mistress, it is time."

She sighed and turned her head towards Hilda, her maid. "Pack up my things."

With a slight bow, the maid left, leaving Hayami alone once more. Taking the final book, she took a glance at the spine and shoved it in its place on one of the lower shelves. Taking a step back, she nodded to herself and left the library, meeting up with her maid at the entrance.

"Shall I set up the things now, mistress?"

"Yes. And don't spill the drinks this time."

This... This was her spot in the park, a relatively empty area with only the occasional jogger passing through. It always made her feel a little bit better when she was here, something about the fresh air, and the sun shining down through the oak tree they were under perhaps. It made her forget about her problems, it made her feel like everything will be alright. Like all her troubles were washed away.

If only she can really wash it away.

"Mistress, I am done."

Hayami gave a slight smile to Hilda, and sat down on the checkered cloth. Reaching into the picnic basket, she pulled out a book, as her maid took out her own drink and started relaxing as well.

Truly, if I had such power....
