Markus stared right back at the man as he mentioned Markus' mother. The rational part of him knew that there was no way he could have known about his mother, but the emotional part told Markus to tear that man apart at his remark. He decided on a middle ground, and gave the man- Seymour- a death glare as he sat, ignoring the hand.

"Markus." He said simply. "You may have been mistaken, but I am merely curious. What brought this on, and when did it start?" His tone was fairly calm, and his death glare had disappeared.

The half-elf then took a moment to examine the other man. His eyes were a pale blue, almost unnatural. His skin was likewise- pale enough to be on the border of normal. He could simply be a man who spent his time indoor instead of out- It was a certain possibility, Markus was one of those people. However, something else caught his notice. Seymour's teeth seemed... strange. His canines were longer than what should be possible for most races.

Could he be a vampire? Possibly. But someone like that would know that the fangs would be a dead giveaway, so why would he be so reckless? Perhaps vampires were not as dangerous as Markus was led to believe by his parents. That was a possibility, and explained how one sat here comfortably, surrounded by what could easily become a mob if they learned the truth. But Markus didn't like the idea of his parents lying to him. He made a note to ask the barmaid- Nuala- later, once he got the chance. Regardless of what he was or wasn't, for now he is simply an acquaintance.
Im here, but i dont want to post again before everyone else has.

"Thank you." Markus told the man. he entered the tavern shortly after him, and approached the bar. Markus inquired about a night's stay and made arrangements for a room. (I am unsure how much this would cost.) He decided to sit in the bar for a short time and observe the townsfolk, and maybe learn about the current events. What he heard gave him plenty of food for thought.

"People have been vanishing." With those words, it was as if the whole pub collectively calmed down for a minute, before resuming to it's usual noise level.

People, vanishing? Markus thought. Certainly someone has to have been investigating... But based on the tone of her voice and the words she chose, this was an ongoing problem that hadn't been solved yet. Markus approached the woman. "I'm sorry, people have been vanishing? How?"
(The following is a collaborative post between myself, Draconis, Rumiko and Blade)

Juvum:

Captain Juvum entered the Briefing room right behind the bridge, and tapped his com badge. "Captain Juvum to all Senior Staff. Report to the Briefing Room immedietly." He'd just received his orders and needed to brief everyone else on board. It would be a quick meeting and a quick trip, but a good maiden voyage is essential if a ship is going to have a good career.

Jinn:

= /\ ="Tactical, Aye, Aye"= /\ = : answered Jinn Crisply as she motioned her assistant over. It was perhaps 12 steps for her to cover before entering the briefing-room where she gives the Captain a nod on entering; only ensigns and green crew come to attention every-time they see the captain. She takes her seat and lays her PADD on the table before her.

Simia:

Simia rushed into the briefing room as quickly and composed as he could, his PADD in his hand which he had quickly downloaded pertinent information on to. He wasn't sure if it was a general meeting or a briefing so he had prepared for both. The Grandeur was ready to fly on command and she'd cruise happily. It had taken him the full two days to get the issues resolved, the ship was powered and running perfectly for once. The doors had been his worst nightmare, he had been fixing those for ages, and he still woke up every so often completely terrified that another door was malfunctioning.

Juvum:

The captain remained standing after all the Senior officers reported and sat down. "Our first mission is simple. We've taken on 45 civillian passengers, and we're to transport them to Alpha Centauri. Once that's done we need to come back. Shouldn't be too hard for a maiden flight. Before we set off, are there any concerns or problems that need to be addressed? The past few days have been a bit of a disaster, but i'd rather it all be one disaster as opposed to damaging a key system halfway on a simple mission."

Jinn:

"My department has detected a few Security system glitches, the port phaser emitters needed calibrating, and I'm still short a full staff. Other than those I can think of little to complain about."

Simia:

"I've not placed weapons at the top of my priorities, I prefered we would be able to move first" Simia replied with a sigh. He looked across the table to the Security officer and decided to offer some form of olive branch. "However we can do a calibration and test once we get underway, probably" Once said, he sat back and began looking up how far away the phaser array was from working. Essentially it was running fine, but he would need to check the glitches just in case. "As for system glitches, I'll check your console later. On my part, we're pretty much running green across the board, phasers nonwithstanding, warp ready at your command sir." He nodded to his captain and felt proud of himself. He'd done well in fixing the ship. It was so much larger than a Miranda class ship and had many more engineers.

Suddenly, one of the doors opened. Nobody was behind it.

Simia suppressed his rage and adds, "Apparently the door malfunction is still present in part. It seems to be in each door but affecting them all separately." He had his hands clenched tight and was glad the uniform covered his arms so that people wouldn't see his veins popping out.

The door closed again, and Simia received a message on his PADD. "Warp Core online. Any further orders?"

Simia angrily replies "Yes, another door malfunction in the briefing room, send someone up in 30 minutes. Prepare for departure and begin bringing the phaser array online, we'll test them once underway, I have a Tactical console to check as well so do a quick diagnostic on bridge consoles too."

A cat then jumped up on Simia's lap, and made itself comfortable.

Jinn:

Jinn clears her throat : "I have already assigned my people to repair or reset the systems in question and they should be waiting for an Engineering inspection; it is easy to see you're stretched thin and I have men without a lot to do."

Vetek:

Vetek for the most part sitting silently with his hands folded on the table taking in the complaints and issues that were appearing across over the ship. After the question asked by the Captain to problems needing addressing. First was the Tactical officer addressing security system issues, something which Vetek took note of as something he could look into. Then was the Chief Engineer the Klingon. Vetek's eyes transfix on the man as he talked about his issues and problems he had on the ship. Vetek adds after Jinn spoke up, "I may be able to provide assistances to the security system glitches. Having specialized in multiple security system I should be able to provide the needed assistance " Adding the Vulcan way of speaking trying to offer his assistance and get a look at this system's glitch himself.

Simia:

Simia glared at Jinn as she said that she had done repairs of her own. "I'm certainly hope they will be satisfactory." He begins before his superior officer interjects and offers his own assistance. Simia quickly checks his clearance and capabilities and it appeared that he actually had a lot of knowledge and skill with weapon and defensive systems. More than his own skill even. Simia relented and took another moment to consider an appropriate response. "That would be most.. appreciated, sir." He said. He was mostly irritated by what he considered Jinn's insinuation that his team was incapable with keeping up.

Jinn:

Jinn turned to regard the 1st officer briefly before speaking once more addressing the CE's concerns: "It is obvious that like all such complex assembly of machinery and personnel the Grandeur has its cascade of faults and forgotten points; the Emitters showed they had only assembled and not even calibrated. I understand the feeling that I have stepped on your toes and can only offer you the ability to chastise me in a sparring duel . I made sure those personnel who did touch the machinery had passed their appropriate levels dictated by the repair manuals." Said the tall red head as if she were reading out a to do list.

Juvum:

"Unless there is anything else to be said i believe that covers all of our problems. If thats the case, then i want you-" He said, pointing to K'Laa, "To work on fixing the doors, and you two-" He pointed to Vetek and Jinn. "bring the phasers online. I want all of this done before we reach Alpha Centauri, understood?"

Markus entered the square at a leisurely pace. He was feeling down again about his mother, although it was happening much less often now that he'd gone adventuring. The half-elf hung his head to avoid seeing the gray skies. He kicked a rock forward as he wandered aimlessly through the town. Eventually, Markus found himself in the Center Square of the town.

He took a moment to observe his surroundings. The skies were just as gray as they were before, but he also spied a few people. A man towards the center of town, and a woman headed to a building, likely the pub, Markus assumed. Several other buildings were also within the square, but Markus couldn't guess what they were.

He approached the man in the center of the square. "Excuse me," He said. "Would you mind directing me to the nearest inn? I'm new here and I want to know where I can spend the night." Markus then noticed something was a little off about the man. He wasn't fully human... was he? Markus ignored this feeling for now and waited for a response.

I personally dont have a response/ideas to anything other than the dice arguments.

My original thinking about 2d10 was that people tend to do things averagely most of the time, instead of an equal likelihood of doing great or poorly. When it comes to dice pools, i have no experience whatsoever, so i can't say anything about if it's a good idea or not.
Perhaps crafting could require tools, stats, materials and time. For instance, i want to craft a sword. I would need good enough STR (To hammer the sword), CON (To have the energy to do it), and DEX (So i dont miss my hammer swings), albeit DEX would be a little lower. I would need a forge, ore, water, hammer, and other forging paraphernalia. The time might depend on the material, but i would say 2-4 hour minimum.

As for armor and weapons, here's an idea- Weapons have a modifier, i.e., +2. You would also need a minimum score in order to wield it- Greatswords might need a score of 5 out of 10 STR, Rapiers a score of 4 out of 10 DEX. When you attack, you roll 2d10+weapon modifier and check the defender. They can roll to dodge first if they want to maybe, but if the attack hits, it would deal damage equal to the earlier roll that the attacker made minus the Armor's bonus. Armor would have to have higher bonuses then, like +5 for lighter armor. And i would say that unless the dodge is successful, the defender always takes at least 1 damage.

How does that sound?

Without the swords.

Biography: Markus lived with a family seeking to make ends meet. This means that when he was old enough, he helped around the town with oddjobs for money, food or other necessities. His Elven father was concerned about Markus not knowing half of his heritage, but decided that there would be much time for him to meet other Elves once he grew up.

Markus was helping an old mage one day clean out his library. Anything that the mage hadn't already taken for himself off of the shelves was fair game to Markus, and he found a book talking about "Runes". The half-elf was 9 at the time, and didn't fully understand the book, but he knew it had something to do with magic. Markus knew of magic, but he never considered it within his reach until then- after all, anyone can learn a language and write, right?

However, he didn't have the necessary materials or resources to make it happen. The 'magically-attuned writing instrument', or anything enchanted for that matter was far out of reach for a family like his. He kept asking for resources on the Ancient Language described in the book, as well as the writing instrument. Unexpectedly, on his 13th birthday, Markus received a book written entirely in the Ancient Language. Apparently it was in a friend's attic, collecting dust, with no real value to anyone else.

Markus continued to study alongside his jobs, and hoarded his money to get an enchanted writing implement. He slowly learned the basic words and grammar of the language, practicing his pronunciation and handwriting religiously.

When he turned 16, Markus' father expressed a desire for him to meet other Elves. After a long talk with his mother, Markus decided to visit a village of Elves a few weeks away for a time. During the travels, Markus' father instructed him in basic culture for the Elves, and began teaching him Elvish. When they almost arrived, however, Markus was attacked by a bear. He nearly died before his father intervened, killed the bear and rushed them both to the village.

Once Markus was well enough, he engaged in the culture, and decided to take up training in weapons so that he could defend himself, alongside his studies into Runic Magic. Nine years passed in the blink of an eye, Markus never once thinking of home, until he got a letter. His mother was dying.

Markus and his father left that day and made it just in time to see Markus' mother in her last few moments. She'd overworked herself, through illness and injury she labored, all to save up money in order to enchant a pen for him. She gave him that pen, along with all the money she'd saved before she died.

Markus spent a few days reading the book of the Ancient Language, trying to force everything but it from his mind. Eventually the grief was unbearable, and he went- pen in hand- to the nearest enchanter. It wasn't easy handing over his mother's money. But it was what she wanted. What both of them wanted.

He spent the next two years training more, and casting his first spells. His father spent a year in town, before returning to the Elven village. He made sure Markus knew the way, just in case he ever wanted to visit. In the last year he slowly got a growing urge to explore, to jump from his nest and learn about the world. He prepared, and at age 27, set out to explore the world.

His first stop- Rosashire.
