Appearance: Standing at a once-impressive but now-common 6'1", Amis has a natural tendency towards dramatic clothing that matches his dark hair in hue, and (whether by chance or design) brings out the blue-grey of his eyes. During office hours, however, he's more often seen in a clinical, white biosuit and lab coat - which, if deployed to a combat situation, doubles up as light and flexible armour that protects from environmental hazards such as toxic/tear gas.

Personality/History (if the history doesn't tell you about his personality, I've not written it well enough.): Amis grew up about a third of the radius of Babylon away from the Skytower - in other words, while he avoided submersion in the suffocating poverty that afflicts much of Babylon's populace, he and his parents could not lay idle. Despite this, his teenage years were spent rebelliously, as a pickpocket and thief, as a clubber; and, in his online life, as a cyberpunk, a black-hat hacker. His parents lamented that he was wasting the considerable intelligence with which he had been bestowed, but, breezing through his schoolwork, he pretended not to listen and not to care. It was not until his final year that the consequences caught up with him, and it was with pure panic that he saw the result of the arrogance of his youth; failing despite his ability, not reaching his potential, and missing his offers from the most prestigious universities in Babylon.
He had a crisis of confidence. He suffered and struggled. He lost his purpose. He met some bad people, and some good people who did bad things. He made some bad choices to match theirs. And it was just then that he finally grew up - having been forced to through circumstance, but also by his own choice. Though his tongue was as silver as ever, his fingers were still nimble, and the mischief did not die from his eyes, he broke free of the underworld he was about to be sucked into, and learned the value of hard work and dedication; of never wasting one's potential. He left seedy, petty criminality - that which he only recognised as the angsty lower-middle-class rebellion so typical of people his age when it was too late - behind, and threw himself into his studies. A healthy combination of luck, growing maturity, and good old-fashioned hard work later, he achieved what he should have when he was 18 - he was finally attending the university of his dreams, at the age of 20.
Years passed. The study of his particular interests - mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology - occupied him in body and soul. With such a broad variety of interests, as well as the fact that the more humanity discovers about the universe the longer it takes to teach it all to new students, it took six years for him to graduate. When he left, he brought with him certificates and degrees in multiple fields, and had already been a co-author of several well-received academic papers. In other words, he was a rising star, with a reputation for a brilliant mind and a hardworking attitude, but also a propensity for mischief and unorthodox innovation as a result of his misspent teenage years.
The perfect recruit for a group like SPEC-RED, the BESC's Special Research Division.
Before he could accept a place anywhere else to do his PhD research, he was recruited. Enamoured with the prospect of virtually unlimited government funding, as well as the chance to reclaim the adrenaline-pumping excitement of his teenage years in a productive way... working for the
good guys as a researcher and operative, how could he refuse?
Two years of training, hardening both mind and body, came. He got his cognitive augments. He began working as part of SPEC-RED's research team, as well as being involved in a minor capacity with one or two espionage and subterfuge missions carried out against dangerous Sand Pirate operations.
Today? Today he is a junior, but well-established and respected, member of SPEC-RED. Today, he fights with brain and brawn for BESC, believing them to be in the right... at least for now.

Occupation: A researcher and an expert in application of technology to combat, espionage and subterfuge working for the BESC's
Special
Research
Division (SPEC-RED). Think along the lines of Mass Effect's Mordin Solus and the STG.
Weaponry: He's trained to make do with whatever is available - SPEC-RED have developed many technologically ingenious weapons for BESC forces, and he has at least some proficiency with most.
Habitually, however, he'll bring a SPEC-RED-developed mid-to-long range marksman's rifle, preferring precision over pumping as much lead into the air as possible. The design is essentially a railgun, and allows the weapon, whose barrel is lined by electromagnetic rails, to be hooked up to a powerful lightweight battery that all SPEC-RED members carry with them whenever going into combat, magnetically accelerating the bullets to increase armour penetration and stopping power for a time. This has led to the rifle design's fond nickname - "Maglev", after the trains that were propelled by magnetic levitation on Earth.
A rarer, far more expensive currently version, still officially under development and so generally found only in the armouries of pure combat specialists assigned to work with SPEC-RED, is the "Super-Maglev". It is bulkier and heavier, but comes equipped with its own solar-powered battery so that the benefits of magnetic acceleration are constant, and also features a system for creating a vacuum in the barrel as one fires - thus decreasing frictional resistance and increasing the muzzle velocity ever so slightly. It is named after its more compact but less powerful version, as well as after the "super-maglev" trains back on earth that utilised the same vacuum method for faster travel.

Atop the Maglev, he often carries a totally-not-discreetly-nicked-from-another-unit
PDP Ark3 pistol, the standard-issue for BESC's specialised policing units, reasoning that in a last-resort situation he'd rather have something that is less technologically advanced than SPEC-RED's exotic weaponry, but that is also provably, demonstrably reliable.
Augments: Standard cognitive implants allow him to operate and multitask on a level significantly higher than any unaugmented human. They're nothing special - expensive, but not dissimilar to what many scientists and combat operatives have - but regardless do come in enormously handy when working long hours in the lab or when in stressful combat situations. He has no physical implants, preferring to design and create a piece of technology (or misappropriate an already-existing one for an unexpected purpose) to do a task for him than to alter his own body in a potentially irreversible way.
Other: It's worth noting that Amis' varied past - having had friends and connections in the criminal underworld, in the high elite of intellectual society, and in the military, make him very accessible to almost every other character.
