It really depends as Brony-ism(Ism is always fun to say) has sub cult of cosplayers like any other fandom, so in other words THEY DRESS UP AS PONIES! Which btw also means It's part of the TG fandom as well.

As I understood it, the term "furry" had its meaning expanded to refer to more than just those who literally dress up in costume, no? Also, TG?

We need to bring back smut police.

I'm pretty sure he/she just had a freaking breakdown. Even the great Smut Police could only take so much.

Welcome to Much Music, certa mid-90s. It shared notable screen time with other big names like the Spice Girls, Ricky Martin, the Bloodhound Gang, and Aqua. There's probably a reason that most of those names mean nothing at all to anyone who grew up in the 2000s.

This was an entire genre? The 90s were... an odd time. To be fair, I do know about half those names. Then again, my taste in music isn't considered stellar by a lot of people, so I can't criticise.

Before they wreck themselves, or something. Still, a few people here have a history of posting some pretty 'nope' images that probably made Spam earn the magnifying glass of mod scrutiny. Dolphin tits and flying dick helicopters come to mind.

Yeah, I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. People who feel socially outcasted tend to empower themselves with stuff that's not socially normal and then get really loud and obnoxious about throwing it in people's faces to show how different and independent they are and blah blah blah.In that sense, the deviant furries are like the goth kids who pretend they're vampires or the militant atheist neckbeards.I feel like we're writing a thesis on social studies.

Yeah, but when we did it, it was for comedy and general hilarity. Maybe inappropriate, but it was for a sort of purpose - not just wanton indulgence in teenage hormones (which, of course, I'm an expert on, as my occasional Spam hissy-fits testify). Here, it was for the laughter of a community - in 1x1, well, they could do that stuff in PMs, or anywhere. Plus, context is a big thing - the context of telling a joke about sex or something inappropriate is very different from the reality of acting the thing out, physically or verbally.

This is slightly heavy conversation for Spam, I'll admit. Though I've always seen Spam as somewhat odd socially anyway - I've not seen many other similar sorts of communities elsewhere across the web - so maybe this is the right place to be writing said hypothetical thesis.

What about those bornies?

Is Brony-ism (is that the right term?) not a type of furryism (I really need to start checking my terminology...)?

I can't imagine he's too busy, these days. I think we should start making some calls and make us a movie that's somehow more ridiculous than Iron Sky.

Agreed. Something about alcoholism, domestic abuse, and consistent racism does that to one's career. Of course, him being a monumental prick makes him perfect to play Salmond... "Passion of the Sausage Roll" would definitely be more ridiculous than Iron Sky. I can see it now.

I am actually having a hard time believing that you assumed I could forget that.

I didn't think you would have.
But the disclaimer did no harm. It's been quite a while, after all.

I can't look at your Thrawn avatar without this song playing on repeat in my head.I am so sorry.

I was deeply unsure whether to click "play" once I saw "I am so sorry". I was right to be afraid.

Yeah, that's one of those weird, awkward things. I got into roleplaying on a Star Fox forum way back in 2001, way before I even knew furries were a thing, so I didn't think anything of making an anthropomorphic character any more so than I would like an alien in Mass Effect. Now, after being on the internet for so long, it's kind of one of those things where if I were to join a roleplay that involved an anthro setting like Star Fox, it would probably be accused with a billion accusations of being a furry or whatever. Not really into that, but I don't mind or care that people are. Considering all the weird shit on the internet, there are far, far weirder things than somebody claiming to be a furry.

I think a large part of the problem is that a lot of furries almost want to be judged and ostracised. They view themselves as outcasts and set themselves up in insular communities based around something they know alienates most people, then they wear it as a badge of honour and shove it into people's faces. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm in no way saying all furries are like this, I've known a few during my time on the web and for the most part they've been lovely people, but there are a vocal minority who seem to get a kick out of peoples' negative reactions and actively seek to make a bad name for furries as a whole - just like trolls get a kick out of being hated and ostracised. It's like those guys who made the MLP porn of the character that was meant to represent the disabled boy - that shit was just to troll and alienate people.

No, of course not. I imagine quite a few people, myself included, have done it. But like you said, it's about telling a story first and foremost. It's just there's so. Much. Smut. The vast majority of RPs in 1x1 right now are basically Craigslist ads, and that's kinda fucked up. I don't know why those people don't realize that it's inappropro and is a big part of the reason we lost the oldguild. If you gotta do smut, take it somewhere that's not public. Ain't rocket science. The only acceptable name is Rasputin.

Agreed fully. Both in regards to the "whyyy, smut, whyyy" and Rasputin as a name.
Yeah, 'kay brah, the idealism is really sweet, but I'm not talking about what "should" happen, what's "right", because that's to do with principle. I'm talking about what, on the ground, in the daily life of the individual, is going to have the most positive effect for them. And sometimes, that's just choosing your battles. I'm not saying change who you are, or suppress yourself. I don't think that goth kid not wearing a trenchcoat and 18 inches of makeup is going to change him inside - but it might make a big difference to his outside life and his happiness. Yes, people should be more accepting and less judgemental, and if we lived in that sort of utopia I'd completely agree with you. But that's not reality, that isn't going to happen, and honestly, sometimes I really do think the best principle to stand by above all others is just to do what benefits you (and others) most. Do what makes you and others happy - don't make people miserable for the sake of some idealistic principle.

Oh, and if you think friendship and companionship is nothing to do with personal growth and happiness, I don't really know what to say to you. Of course it does. Almost all of human existence is about desperately reaching out for connection with the outside world and with other people, in some way, shape, or form. Again, I'm not saying people should suppress everything about themselves and mould themselves into falling into the perfect average of every measure of human individuality just to get people to like them. I'm saying that sometimes, one should just "go with the flow". A good example: I never, ever wear proper school uniform, but I know I should, because it's very little effort to avoid a lot of hassle from both my teachers and friends. It might not be me "being me" or "true to myself", but that little bit of conformity would have made things easier for me... i.e. picking your battles is better than fighting every battle just on principle, and it may actually bring a brighter and better outcome for you.

So... If Russia was invading this part of Scotland, Putin could technically justify it because of that?

Not even a tiny, tiny bit. Jesus.

Union of Scottish Soviet Republics is not something I ever thought I'd think about. It sounds like a very silly movie premise.

With Mel Gibson playing Alex Salmond, of course. There are probably even more ridiculous political films out there, though.
