Take 2. Did some editing; included a government section; included a character section that has nothing in it as of now.

Concerning Oumaoro's color: I'd be happy with blue as well if there are concerns this would clash with the other purple faction on the map.

I'm tempted to add something about old Oracles being able to breed with humans to create blind, grey-eyed humans that are believed to have prophetic powers. Also tempted to say the Oracles are believed to have prophetic powers. Not going to make it a for-sure "they are prophets; they see the future" deal whatever I do, though. Chewing on these ideas. Not sure if they're worth using, especially the part about albino lizards breeding with humans. Has squick potential.

EDIT: Probably going to leave the character section blank until I join the RP, if I'm allowed in.

Hm.

History, for one, surrounding revolutions in Latin America and Mesoamerica. The Pueblo Revolt stands out in my head, too. The concept of the penal colony as dreamt up by Great Britain certainly factored in; the current state of poverty in Mexico and the generally superior-than-you behavior of the Western world...

Shadowrun and Starcrawlers gave me some of the imagery for how corporations ruling over everyone would work out, and why someone might rebel if they had the chance. History factors in here again; revolutions are most often successful when they take advantage of the mother nation's moment of weakness (England, for instance, was in HUGE debt thanks to fighting the French, which made it possible for the American colonies to successfully revolt - among other factors)... You'll notice the revolution for La Parranda happens shortly after the Earth government collapses. That's on purpose. "Strike now while we have the chance" is the idea behind that.

Borderlands 2 and other Space Western games/films/whatever also gave me the mental image for La Parranda, as did a few Western films. Once Upon a Time in Mexico is a good example.

The relatively instability of the nation and its indeterminate government comes from real world history once again. A lot of colonial nations wound up changing their governments multiple times; even the United States switched from the Articles of Confederation to the present Constitution, a Constitution which has only lasted so long because it's constantly being revised.

Yeah, history had a huge influence on me for this RP.

EDIT: Oh, and the subterranean thing? I just like subterranean cities. A lot.
They're somewhat cheesy action flicks / thrillers from the 70's that are really fun to watch. Precinct 13 is pretty much turning a gang war vs. police into a zombie film without zombies, and Escape From New York is about a bad man named Snake that's forced against his will to rescue the President from New York, which is now a walled off city where the U.S. dumps its criminals.

Yeah. Cheesy but good.

And back to the RP, if i remember correctly, one of the factions had something for Marsian expidition or ancient relics. Is that still a thing?

That's my faction. Yeah, it's a thing - but I'm spacing out the quest for Martian relics very distantly. The next post I make will involve the search, actually, as well as the first attempt at expanding the tunnel network (which won't be finished for a while, I think), and probably another couple things.

I don't want to rush the Martian relic route, however, because that's something I want to come into play later or during a time of emergency.
Mass Effect has some pretty good tunes, for sure. That's a nice pick for a corporate shootout. Different feel to it; works for different scenes. I actually really like the galaxy map music from the first / second game for peaceful moments.

Precinct 13 and Escape From New York are definitely movies I need to watch again.

As an aside, I found a song that comes close to what I envision this RP's theme as, especially after what went down in Elysium.

Escape From New York's theme.

EDIT: Similar note: I feel like Assault on Precinct 13 has a great theme for anything involving a corporate shootout.
I hate clogging OOC threads like this, but:

I'll be finishing the application and the necessary changes on Sunday. I'm going to be leaving my house in less than two hours and I'll be vanishing from the face of the Earth until late tonight.

EDIT: Monday, not Sunday.

Free Workers of La Parranda

Low Road, construction site - 11:18

"What the Hell are you jackasses doing with that crane?!" shouted the construction manager at her workers. "To your left! No, your actual left!" As the crane finally settled it was supposed to, the manager slumped against the cave wall and sighed. "Ai, mi cabeza."

"This deadline's impossible to fulfill," grumbled her associate next to her, staring at the site with cybernetic eyes. The order to build a lot more underground farms, both of the normal lit-by-solar-lamps variety and of the much cheaper but less enjoyable fungus farm variety, came from high up. Nobody on the crew liked receiving work orders with so little warning, even though they understood why: there was Hell going down in Elysium now, worse than anything anyone in La Parranda had imagined.

"If it weren't for those Skyguard pendejos we wouldn't be so swamped," grumbled his friend again.

"Excuse me," interrupted a voice from behind them. They each looked back and saw a trio with a camera, a microphone, and other such equipment, as well as obvious MAN attire. The reporter asked with a wide smile on his face, "Would you mind repeating what you just said for the camera?"

Fort Solido - 11:20 a.m.

Construction was happening at Fort Solido as well, and fast. The small town's walls were just about finished, but the real work was happening inside and outside of them. A large fort was being constructed from around the tower in the center of town; less observable, digging was happening under the ground to complete the tunnels linking Fort Solido to La Parranda. It seemed like a castle out of medieval times, except with clearly colonial Martian architecture and better metals. Meanwhile, housing was being built both inside and outside the city walls, and potato plants well adapted to Mars were being planted in the ground outside.

MAN's news reporters were coming to Fort Solido, too. Their vehicles rolled on past a series of Red Tiger light tanks rolling out into the desert, escorting similarly red trucks and APCs. All throughout the town there was a lot of rushing, talking, and congregating wherever someone wasn't working.

La Parranda, president's office - 11:20 a.m.

"...training camp won't be finished for another week, not with all the workers being diverted like they are," Marshal Asturias finished, "but I think you made the right decision, Mr. President."

"People need help, Adelina," Martin replied, rising from his seat and stepping slowly over to the window. He opened the shutters, staring out at the carts of materials being pushed this way and that. "The miners are on double shifts and triple pay for the moment. The trains are running non-stop. By the time the first refugees make it here, we'll be ready for them."

"It is going to be a large delay on other operations," Asturias admitted, adjusting the sleeve of her shirt. She smirked. "Santiago is pissed."

"Is she, now?"

"You reassigned several of her crew from working on death machines to working on construction work. Of course she's pissed."

"Mm." President Martin frowned and gave the Marshal a stern look. "You are too harsh on her. She means well, if you'd take the time to listen."

"I'll be sure to write that down in her biography, probably after the part where she sets fires a micronuke at someone's house," the Marshal replied snarkily. Ignoring the President's look, she stepped across the room to seat herself in the President's chair. It was then she noticed something on the President's desk.

"We're going to be building by Lake Argyre, too?"

"A new settlement, yes, and get the Hell off my chair," the President interrupted, shooing the Marshal off. He reclaimed it with a huff. "Where Fort Solido will be our trading outpost, we'll need a proper farming town built inmediatamente. Our food stores won't last the whole year once we get the refugees pouring in, so we need to think of the long term and get some farms going."

"At least the area's already terraformed," mused Asturias, stroking her chin as she paced back to the other side of the room. "This is going to spread our troops thin, though. I sure fucking hope someone among those refugees can hold a gun properly."

"You're always thinking of war, Adelina."

"That's because war is coming, Martin."

Out of curiosity: are there any animals that live on Mars in this setting? They'd have to have been brought to Mars, obviously, but I was wondering if ranches of some kind would be around.

EDIT: Also, does the map wrap around? As in, can I reach Skylar's region by driving northeast, for instance? It's kind of important for me to know, as it makes maintaining a defensive pact (if one is made) that much easier.
I... Eh, I don't really like either of those, not for this roleplay. The classical tone doesn't fit a Martian roleplay based in the red desert and such, and I don't really like Two Steps From Hell in general.

Really, I listen to specific soundtracks for specific scenes. For instance, when writing for La Parranda I find myself wanting to listen to some guitar with a Western / Space age feel to it. For instance, this piece from Borderlands 2 is perfect for my writing moods in La Parranda.

I've got other tracks lined up for battle scenes, such as basically the majority of Borderlands 2's soundtracks, but since I haven't been in a battle yet I haven't needed those. There's a few other games and artists out there that have the right sounds I look for in combat music and still fit the space theme. Bastion has a lot of good Space Western songs that work for battle. There are also tunes from Starcrawlers that work well for combat and non-combat purposes. Doc Sam's. Also, FTL and its expansion have some decent tracks.

For a theme that belongs to the whole roleplay, though...? I haven't really given that much thought. I'll have to chew on that one.

EDIT: Yes, I listen to lots of video game OSTs.

EDIT 2: And the theme would have to be gritty enough to feel like Mars while also having something that spits of Skyguard and the Corporations.
Whoops.

Fixed, thanks!
