Twinklemoon said I am not against a spell caster-like character if you keep it very low and as a second sort of weapon, not the main.

Aye' aye' cap'n.
Oh lord, now I'm going to have to find my character sheet.

x-x;

I might end up taking a few liberties with re-working my character, I sort of want to mix him up a little bit. Beyond that, could anyone remind me the level of magic in the roleplay? I don't seem to remember it coming up very much and I might consider adding a second character (who is a spellcaster) if it's not a low-fantasy setting.

Oh right, we had this guy. Totally forgot....

Thanks a lot for all the responses and input. I've enjoyed reading through everyone's thoughts and experiences, especially the bit about the early guild. To try and sum up what has already been said, it seems to me that almost everyone is in consensus that high-casual as a collective term is advanced by another name, mostly without the stigma usually attached to roleplays devised within the advanced sub-forum. I believe this aptly answered my question as to the classification of high-casual: It's a mini-advanced within the more accessible casual sub-forum.

Blackfire, Hyzhenhok, and I bluffed hard when we wrote the "standards" for Casual and Advanced.We knew we would never enforce them because that's a full-time job. But by using words like "moderated" and "strict", we decided to err on the side of scaring users away and created a mental barrier.

Mahz you clever bastard. . .

No worries, my first post wasn't the greatest either. As for the posting time, as long as you get something up about once/twice a week I think we'll be alright. I don't mind a couple of weak posts and I understand time constraints. The point, after all, is to have fun right?
The wraith watched first as the princess deflected the attempts of her guards to protect her, then the attempts of her councilors to inform her. Surely this princess was one of a kind, fool-hardy enough to jump straight into the den of danger and strong enough to survive through to the other end. "What information do you have? Speak up." Dark's words came quickly, but with controlled emotion, the shade leaving only subtle hints of his dislike for his former master. He didn't particularly care if the Hylian's trusted him, he only needed them to cooperate with him. "Seven powerful sorcerers stand in opposition to the sages, combating their power as they seek to release Ganon from his imprisonment. Already the gates are opened, no doubt you've noticed the reappearance of monsters of Hyrule's horizons? Each day they grow stronger and each day Ganon draws closer to escape, if you wish to stop his revival then you must begin now."

At this moment the shade paused, searching his memory for the relevant information; he and the hero were link, twin souls existing as mirrors of one another. He could see into the Hylian's mind, even though they were separated by vast distances of space and time. He could remember everything as clear as day, the moment Zelda returned the hero to the past, the emotions Link felt as the teleportation took place. Finally, the wraith spoke up again, articulating knowledge he, by all means, had no right accessing. "Too bad the hero no longer exists in this dimension. . ." The room fell silent, various nobles shutting their previously murmuring mouths. They had all assumed Link was still in Hyrule somewhere, off in some far off field or lake, somewhere they could reach him, a place from which he could be recalled. They had no way of knowing Zelda had transported him to the past, at least, not until this moment.

". . . your fateful decision to send him back now has dire consequences. Hyrule is without a hero. Therefore, princess, I'll extend to you an offer? I'll take the place of the Hero of Time, journey to the temples and eliminate the sorcerers, however, I do expect something in return. I desire a spot on the throne, control of Hyrule and all its peoples." An evil smirk was growing on the lips of the shade, a diabolical grin that could no longer be controlled. Although he opposed Ganon, in many ways he retained the evil of his originating magic. "I'd say you don't have much of a choice? Hand over the kingdom and all of you will survive, roll the dice on your own and Ganon slaughters the lot of you. What's it going to be?"
Having returned to the guild in recent weeks after our tumultuous shutdown, I've encountered a growing trend which had piqued my curiosity. The evolution of the new sub-category known as 'high-casual' (which may or may not have existed since before I joined the guild) seems to have spread through most casual interest checks and it appears to me now that this is simply a moniker that gets tacked on to roleplays by OP's who really want the roleplay to succeed, but aren't actually asking for high-casual material. To put things more simply, it feels like the default categorization of all roleplays in casual is now high-casual, when really they shouldn't be.

Now, forward to a disclaimer before I continue: I don't presume to tell people which roleplays can or cannot be high-casual, I just feel that the abuse of the descriptor isn't very healthy for roleplayers who seek to discern upper-level play within casual itself without rising to the advanced category. To quote directly from the casual header, "Roleplay here if you enjoy writing at least a paragraph or two, character development, and some depth. Casual RP is more laid back and lighthearted than Advanced RP but more moderated than Free RP." It seems to me though, that most people who label their roleplay as high casual are only expecting 1-2 paragraphs to begin with, rather than a greater level of detail or length.

My questions then are thus. What exactly, in the minds of other guild members, are the expectations of high-casual and what constitutes a high-casual roleplay? A greater length or simply more story-telling depth within the expected 2 or so paragraphs? Is the term being over used?
