PREMISE

This is an anime-style story that will be broken down into several story arcs along the way, this is an adventure fantasy that will focus just as much on character interaction and development as it will combat. It will begin with a sort of introductory arc and following that there will be successive arcs that will be plotted with the help of the players, possibly in respect to their characters. However, there actually IS an overarching plot that will be slowly touched upon as the story goes on and eventually will take the center stage at a later date. Though this won't exactly be gritty and will actually be quite fun, expect there to be darker themes or elements in certain places.

THE MAGES

Aura is an incredibly powerful form of energy that is naturally formed in Aurelia. However, it is unique to Aurelia itself and is only generated from the core where it radiates outward. Though Aura can be captured and used by certain technologies, there is a type of Aura that is generated naturally within all living things, referred to as Mana. In essence, Mana is simply a watered down version of Aura, created by living things converting the Aura in the air into something they can use. While all life has Mana, some can manipulate this energy. Those born with especially high Mana levels are called Mages.

Mages can be detected at birth by their high levels of Mana. There are four classifications of Mages. Arcane Mages make up 70 percent of all Mages. An Arcane Mage can use their Mana to manipulate or create one specific element. Such examples would be a fire Mage, an ice Mage, a flower Mage, etc. These Mages are capable of performing such magic on themselves, such as a water Mage turning into water. The other 30 percent are split equally between what are classified as White Mages and Black Mages. White Mages can use their Mana to not only heal injuries but to assist other Mages such as speeding up their Mana regeneration. Black Mages have more destructive skills, being capable of raising the dead or spreading disease. While Arcane Mages can possess similar ability as a White or Black Mage, it is never to the degree of the "higher power" category. Neither White or Black Mages can use their magic on themselves. The final category is incredibly rare, being that there are only five recorded Mages of this type in history. They are called Time Mages. Their Mana and ability are so powerful they can bend space and time around them. The extent of their power is largely unknown, but what is recorded implies that Time Mages are the ultimate beings on Aurelia.

THE FREE WIND AND THE LEAGUE

The League of Free Skies, often shortened to The League, was an organization of sovereign navies led by ten commanders that allied to protect the sovereign islands from the Crucible. However, ten years ago, The League was mostly crushed in a series of debilitating battles with the Crucible Navy. Though the sovereign nations that composed the League still exist, they were mostly destroyed and are shadows of what they once were. It is common knowledge that The League still exists and those that are oppressed by the Crucible cling to the idea as their hope of salvation. However, it is a fact that there have been no efforts to fight since their crushing defeat ten years ago. The League is shattered, and it is almost improper to say it is a thing. Though the original leaders are all alive, they are unknown to the general public and have made no attempts in ten years to protect anyone.

THE BEGINNING

The story will begin with the present crew of the Free Wind being forced to land on the small, rural island of Krukow due to mechanical problems. Coincidentally, the Crucible Empire's Scouting Legion has come to annex Krukow. The majority of the cast will be native to Krukow and will have little knowledge of the world (though of course variety and non-native characters are to be expected). The chaos that will ensue will leave the player characters with a choice. Join the Free Wind and escape from the Crucible's grasp or stay in their homeland and suffer.

It would be foolish of me to make the players create characters in a setting they know nothing about. So here's a little bit on the island of Krukow, for the characters it will be relevant to.

The island of Krukow is relatively small, being only 30 miles across. It is mostly flat, though heavily wooded. The town of Krukow, creatively named after the island it inhabits, lies toward the north end of the island by a large lake. Guess the name of the lake. Anyways, the primary industry of Krukow has always been lumber exports, but lately has been shifting to more agriculture due to the land opening up from the deforestation. While it is a small place, it is well kept. The community is mostly tight and it seems that everybody knows each other. The town mayor, Vladmir Maximus, is also the leader of the Rift Hunter business in town, Maximus. Due to the small population, there is only one school that children of all ages attend, where the education is divided up by ability rather than age. Neighboring the island of Krukow is the island of Kuiper. Often considered sister islands, Kuiper is just as small but much more modern. The entire island is one large city. The two islands are only 50 miles apart, so it is not all that uncommon to see Krukow natives make weekly trips to Kuiper with a skiff or perhaps their own personal air vehicle. Air vehicles aren't exactly rare on Krukow, but due to their expensive nature most people on Krukow don't care to own one. After all, they can just ride a hovercraft to wherever they need to go on the island, and those are much cheaper to operate. Krukow itself doesn't have much on it, making it the more boring or drab of the sister islands, but most of the community doesn't mind that. It is typically the younger folk, especially teenagers, that aren't content with their home.

Low-key I'm quite tired so I'm going to leave the character sheet here for any who may feel like getting a jumpstart on their characters. I'll have to ask to wait to post any finished character until I get the OOC up tomorrow morning, but if you want something confirmed with me feel free to send a PM and I'll respond to it when I get up.

Uncoded for easy copypasta.
Alright, nice to see some interest. Even if one of them is a clown. I think I'll see if one or two more show interest before putting up a character sheet and reformatting to make an OOC.

If you guys ever have any questions feel free to ask.

OTHER STUFF

Mary Boyce

Before she could confirm that Penny could take the Lavenders, Ky had spoken up again much to Mary's surprise. "Oh? I figured you would've known who that girl was," Mary confessed, "considering your hobby of spying on people and all." With that out of the way she redirected her attention back to Penny. "Of course you can have these beautiful Lavenders. Lucky for you they were the last ones, I think. Yes. They were." Being that she was giving away the flowers for free she didn't have any kind of paper or checklist to confirm what she does and doesn't have. Everything has to go by sight and memory.

And with the younger girl satisfied she brought her attention back to her fellow S-class mage. "The Phoebe girl is pretty short, white hair, and looks as if she doesn't go outside very often. Seems to be about your age or so. She'll probably come back for the wallet anyways but otherwise I have no idea where she went. Kinda teleported away or something so no idea what direction she went." With that information relayed, Mary let out a sigh and leaned back again until she was parallel with the ground and was now facing the sky. It was a nice stretch, being she had been sitting with no back support for hours. "Penny. If you want to keep birds off your grapes I can make you a safe potion to deter them. All you'll have to do is drizzle it on your grapes or any other fruits and they'll leave it alone. You'll just have to wash them when you are ready to eat them."

While Mary was known for being a phenomenal gardener she was far from ignorant about the plants she grew. Had she not had the magic she was blessed with she would've certainly become a herbologist, as her knowledge of plants translates well into knowing how to use them. Making magic potions is easy for Mary, though it isn't combat effective so not many know of that skill of hers. Only those who really understand her dedication would assume that Mary's knowledge of plants and their uses is unrivaled. Few understand how little she uses her magic outside of combat. "If it rains you will have to reapply it, though, so I might have to make you a few bottles..." It seemed that Mary had already set her mind to assisting Penny with her grape dilemma.
Alright, I'm gonna post now.
Mary Boyce

Her attempt at baiting Goldas into a fight was ultimately futile as the Harpy's Wing mage had enough restraint to walk away. Mary was able to tell that she struck a nerve with him, despite his best attempt at covering it up. She had found a weak point in his emotional armor. It would be worth remembering that for the future but for now she let him leave. There would be others that would be willing to battle for the sake of art, though it didn't particularly matter to Mary if her opponent would find it as poetic as she does.

With Goldas and Phoebe now gone, Mary only had a brief moment of silent respite. Hardly enough for her to even sit back down again on the floating leaf before something caught her eye. A wallet that was left on her stand unnoticed began to float into the air. This would confuse, baffle, or mystify most anyone unfamiliar but Mary was quick to identify the handiwork of her fellow S-class mage, Kyvirn Xaesos. He was a weird one, that's for sure, but he mostly kept to himself so Mary had little to complain about with him. "That must belong to that Phoebe girl who was just here. She couldn't have left a full twenty seconds ago, though she used magic to skedaddle away."

"A better question is why are you hiding right now? It isn't like today is a day of celebration for our guild or anything. Do you not have pride in Golem's Hand?"
It was a bit of a loaded question for the younger Godslayer, but that was fully intentional on Mary's part. While Ky liked to be alone and reclusive, Mary was the opposite and she felt the need to impose that on him in some way. He should be sociable, represent the guild, and perhaps smile once in a while. Mary's standards aren't even particularly high considering that she believes she is the best representative of Golem's Hand all the while attempting to get mages to challenge her to a fight. Ky wasn't the cocky type but if Mary had her way she would force him to at least pretend he is.

But before she could lay into her invisible companion any further another customer showed up. This one was someone that Mary recognized. A girl from Golem's Hand, Penny. The girl wasn't very "beautiful" the way Mary sees it, as she has little style, grace, or flashiness on top of poor combat skills, but she was trying to improve and even had an interest in the beauty of plants like Mary does. That common factor alone allows the girl to bother Mary with no consequence as Mary has found very few that have come to her for gardening advice and tips about plants in general. "Hello, Penny," Mary greeted, leaning forward to rest her elbows on the stand while propping up her head. By now she figured Ky would walk away and attempt to return the lost wallet, so there was no need for any farewells. He may have already left anyways. "Of course you may have one. I have enough beautiful plants in my garden so I must share some of my excess with the rest of the world. It would be cruel of me to deny you such beauties as these. If you treat them right you can even grow some more of your own and create your own beauty that you too may share one day." Penny had likely heard these kinds of words from Mary plenty of times since they've met, but it wouldn't stop the Flower Queen from repeating them for flair.
Sure thing. Gives me an excuse to post in the morning instead of right now.
Mary Boyce

The smug grin slowly vanished from Mary's face as Goldas revealed his true nature by embarrassing his date by publicly telling her off. It was a cruel act to witness, enough so to temporarily suppress Mary's cockiness. But Goldas wasn't just being a jerk to his (ex) girlfriend, but also to the other girl that had come up to the stand with flowers. Phoebe, so he called her, was also a member of Harpy's Wing. Mary's brown eyes drifted back to the girl. While she was unassuming in appearance it was claimed that she could make a match for Mary. The young woman didn't even need to stand up to tell that Phoebe was a head shorter than her on top of being noticeably younger. And considering Mary couldn't feel her magical presence when she wasn't using any spells she felt no compelling reason to believe Goldas.

"Throwing this girl under the bus, eh?" Mary finally responded after Phoebe defended herself. Her gaze went back to the young man. "You seem like the despicable type. I'm half tempted to put you in timeout for your behavior." The smirk returned as she finally put her feet on the ground and stood up. Mary was slightly taller than average for women her age, making her comparable in height to Goldas but significantly taller than Phoebe. "You can keep the flowers girl. Phoebe, is it? But it isn't a matter of fighting over the flowers. You wouldn't have to win, you'd just have to participate. You see, I like beautiful things..." She placed her left hand on the stand and leaned forward, to allow herself to be closer to the two Harpies. "And few things can match up to the beauty of battle. The exhilarating but fleeting experience is rarely met by conventional things. These flowers, for example, are some of the very few that could be compared. Beauty like this is hard to find."

Now she stood up straight and crossed her arms under her chest again. "Fighting is never petty, unless it isn't beautiful. There is nothing that isn't worth fighting over. It's like an art. It must be done with grace, creativity, and finesse. But most importantly it must be done with style." By now the two Harpies may or may not be tired of Mary's speech, but it wasn't over for them yet. Green vines began to grow from the ground at their feet, coiling around them loosely as they made their way up to chest-height of the two Harpies. They were not wrapped tightly, in fact it was very loose and allowed them mobility. They could even break free relatively easily if they desired. But as soon as the vines stopped growing various flowers began to sprout from the sides, granting the appearance that the two had been covered in flowers up to their necks. "And that is why I challenge your guild to fights when I can. It isn't because I hope for a challenge, it's that I want to show off my beauty. After all, is it not true that my magic is the most beautiful to behold?" If the two were patient enough, now the vines would begin to retract back into the ground as if time was being rewinded. It only took a few seconds for them to be completely flower-free, aside from Phoebe who was holding a bouquet of flowers.

"So let me say it again, Gold... Do you think you can match me? Or is it in your nature to use girls to make up for your ugliness?" Her last sentence was spoken with a slight tinge of spite, though its primary purpose was to provoke rather than to upset. Goldas has already abused two different girls since Mary has met him so it seemed like an apt insult. One could even take it literally and assume she was talking about the scar on his face, so bonus points for that. While Phoebe would also be a target, being she is also a Harpy, Mary had decided that beating Goldas would be more rewarding. His personality had gotten on her nerves so it was worth letting Phoebe get away if it meant baiting the more annoying Harpy into a fight.
