I can't really name any horrible kid shows.

Mostly due to the fact that I don't watch any. Nor do I really keep up with what airs on the kid networks these days.

I'm pretty sure most of us here don't.
Does not surprise me.

While I do agree on all of your points, I do think that the movie was impartially different because it was intended for american audiences, produced by american producers. It was meant to be a starting point for a "American" Doctor who series and everything...Sadly they didn't realize the reason why Doctor who became so popular was because it was Doctor who, not...whatever the hell that movie was. It wasn't just that obviously though.. ( the eight doctor is really awesome, but the way they made the regeneration happen with the doctor being shot made me angry)

The Doctor Who movie was made by Americans? *checks the Whology book to verify*

...Huh. Co-produced by Americans, at least. So I guess that's something.

Still, I really can't blame them for taking it in some different directions. Yes, the show was popular... at one point in time, then it got cancelled. They were trying to avoid what the show was like (at least in its later years) in order to avoid what made it unpopular. Yes, it turned the movie into something very different from the rest of the show, but I liked it for what it was, at least. The way I see it, there's no reason to dislike something just because it's different. Ever. Judge something based on how well it turned out by itself, I always say. Sometimes change can drastically improve a show.

As for the regeneration, well, you knew they couldn't make the Doctor's death the climax of the story unlike usual since Eight was meant to be the star of that one, not Seven. Still, despite that, though, the regeneration was kind of the most memorable part for me - particularly because of the anesthetic screwing it up and leaving him dead for so long. When I saw how broken Eight was I just wanted to hug him and tell him "it'll be ok" for a good chunk of the movie. Something about that made him one of my favorites, though.

Season 1 was a bit of a mess, but I liked it. Christopher Eccleston is one of my favorite doctor and so I went along happily. And for the first season since...a decade and a half it did really good. Also, doctor who was back and I was extremely giddy. Looking back at it now I still think it's a very good season overall.Though basically all seasons are good, it was quite better then a couple. Even if rose is the worst companion of the new series :D

Eccleston is still far from my favorite Doctor, but while I really disliked him at first, I will say he grew on me over the years. All the Doctors have something to offer, at least.

And as for Rose, I for one think she's kind of underrated. I mean, "worst companion of the new series"? Well... maybe, but only because we've had so few to choose from so far (at least compared to how many there were in the Classics). Objectively, though, I really don't see what's so wrong with her. The biggest thing about her people seem to criticize is how she loved the Doctor and was so obsessed with him, but... I feel like any fangirl, myself included, would be no better than her in that regard. :I I mean I dunno about you, but I feel like any straight woman/homosexual man has no right to hate Rose for loving the Doctor - because anyone with any attraction to men would feel the same way.

Doctor who rambles are fun

I agree 100%.

I've been feeling like ranting about Doctor Who almost constantly the past few weeks (probably due to binging so much content) so it's nice to have an outlet for it all.

What anime should I start watching to see if I like the genre?

I know Nat already recommended Higurashi, but if you ask me that one's a lot better for testing the waters regarding horror anime, specifically (yes I know that there are much scarier horror anime out there that make Higurashi look tame by comparison, but it still makes for a good first horror anime, I think).

If you want to see whether or not you like anime in general, I'd recommend either Soul Eater or Samurai Champloo. It can be hard to recommend a "first anime" to someone since anime by itself really isn't so much of a genre as a medium spanning many genres, so I can't find too many titles where I can say "if you don't like this then you probably won't like most anime" - since most titles are really only representative of one genre of anime.

But when someone does ask for a first anime, Soul Eater's the first thing that comes to mind since it seems to have something for everyone in it. The title makes it sound rather dark - which it is, kind of, but it's peppered with so much humor and strange situations that a lot of times the dark concept of what the show is actually about is often kind of ignored, so it doesn't feel like it's being dark a lot of the time. In fact, most of the time (at least in the early episodes), it feels like a much more lighthearted, humorous series. But it does have some very dark and interesting moments scattered about which I also find enjoyable. Also it has a ton of interesting characters - so many I think it's kind of impossible to not find a single character you enjoy in the series. Oh, and it has a good dose of fanservice mixed in, as well, without being constantly in your face like most animes known for their fanservice. So yeah, like I said, something for everyone.

On the other hand, Samurai Champloo is just an amazing anime I would recommend to anyone any day. I love the characters, I love the stories, I love the music, and I really love the fight scenes. This anime has better fight scenes than I have ever seen in any anime ever, imo. I suppose that, like Soul Eater, it has a good balance of serious and ridiculous moments, and can also really go for the extremes on both ends of the spectrum while still feeling like it all flows right. Oh, and there's also a bit of fanservice in it as well. Though now that I think of it, you'll find that in about 95% of all the anime you'll ever watch.

...I apologize, Nat, for overruning your thread. I just really wanted to get that opinion out there.

Meta Knight is such a broken character he's been outright banned from Smash tournaments, if he returns it's most likely going to come with a multitude of tweaks.

Well yes - I expected tweaks. They've made changes to almost all the returning characters so far - even if most of them were minor changes. I had pretty much assumed that Meta Knight would be modified so that he isn't such a powerhouse, especially all the work they've done to balance all the other characters in the new game - which is kind of exactly why the thought of them dropping him completely seems so... "out of character", for lack of a better term? It just doesn't fall in line with what I've seen from them up until this point.

The worst wait was the one whole 'Doctor who is gone' one...9 years...Well way more of that if like me you like to forget about the movie..but I'm barely old enough for the movie to comprehend what the hell was going on

Well yes but I didn't live through that hiatus. Also back then it really wasn't a hiatus as much as it was a cancellation - and the fans didn't really expect the series to return anytime soon.

Also, what was wrong with the movie? I mean, other than the fact that it has a very different tone and feel than what we've come to expect from Who over the years and that it brings up some very interesting and unexpected details about the Doctor's character which all writers after the fact seem to have pretended never happened. I really can't blame the movie for those points, though - they were trying to create something that would result in a series reboot starting with the 8th Doctor, and since the old series did get cancelled due to lack of popularity, it makes sense that they'd try to go some different directions with it in an attempt to find something people liked. It also explains that one implied trait of the Doctor that has left the fans scratching their heads to this day, since the writers probably planned to explore that more during the hoped-for new series, only for the movie to not generate enough interest to make this happen.

It's sort of the same reason why I can't hate on season 1 of the actual new series, despite it being somewhat of a mess - they knew the show had been cancelled once before so they tried a whole bunch of new things to see which would be most popular and therefore test to see what direction the new show would take, and at the same time you can tell they're still trying to appeal to fans of the Classic series. It's like season 1 was their attempt at pleasing as many people as possible - with each episode targeted at a different group. Oh! And let's not forget that they were also bringing in huge new concepts (namely, the Time War) in order to make the Whoniverse feel really different than it did in the Classics - oh and the Doctor was also testing out a lot of new gadgets to find something that could potentially become nearly as useful and as signature as the sonic screwdriver (and they were successful in this with the psychic paper). So yeah that's a lot to fit into one season! I acknowledge that season 1 isn't the show's best but given their situation and what they were trying to do, I really have to appreciate the effort.

The movie's the same way for me - except I like it a lot more than season 1 on account of the fact that Paul McGann became my 2nd favorite Doctor of all time and Seven -> Eight was probably the most horrifying regeneration to watch, and that's what made it so memorable.

Also I edited my post.

I hope I don't sound like a douche but this is what I wrote, Again, I don't mean offence :( (Don't strike me down oh mighty GM)

You're fine - like I said I'll edit my post. Must've misread yours (admittedly I was getting quite a few up rather quickly - I sort of accidentally joined a lot of RP's at once...)

The wait for Doctor who is so painful, especially when they did those mid season breaks...grr, but why can't they start it so it goes through the summer. Starting it when I have stuff to do is so annoying

Eh, I joined the fandom recently enough that this current hiatus is the first one I've really waited through with no new content to keep me occupied. That's why I turned to old content instead. The Classics definitely served to make the wait less painful.

That's what I love about Doctor Who. You can binge the content all you want and it still feels like there's so much left to enjoy - not to mention all the episodes have really amazing rewatchability, especially once you watch the Classics.

Also if you haven't tried watching a lot of the minisodes, those can easily keep a Whovian busy for at least a day or two, depending on how quickly you decide to watch them.

Poor soul, not being able to watch it right away :(

I KNOW. It's bad enough it's been over a year since season 7 ended - but I've spent this whole hiatus knowing that I'll probably have to wait even longer than everyone else. DX

Oh well... At the very least, this hiatus convinced me to watch Classic Who, and that's definitely something to be thankful for.

I am virtually positive you said "GM".

They're not necessarily rules just tips, for a good first impression I suppose. Again, no one has to follow them, they're just there in case they're needed.

I still feel like they would hardly be of use to the sort of people that need help getting Spam to like them, though. :/

However, it does almost make me wanna try to write a list of useful Spam Rules myself...

Though just saying that makes me worry that this will become some weird bandwagon any second now.
What gave you the idea that they were scrapping Meta Knight? I admit I haven't been keeping up-to-date on the Smash Bros news recently but if you can show me what made you think that then I might be able to tell you whether or not I think that's an accurate assumption.

Just based on what I've seen so far, that seems rather unlikely. Firstly the character roster is huge just based on who's been revealed so far, so I can't see them needing to scrap too many characters in order to fit the new ones in. Secondly, they've already shown that they're more than capable of balancing out overpowered or otherwise over-advantaged characters (ie: getting rid of Pit's insane recovery move that made it nigh impossible to make him fall off the stage and die), and really that they're just paying a lot of attention to detail in regards to how the characters will play and how balanced they'll all be in general - so it strikes me as odd that they'd completely get rid of him just due to the criticism of him being overpowered.

Oh, and let's not forget that Sakurai, creator and director of Smash Bros, was also the creator of the Kirby franchise - and he's shown a lot of love to characters like Kirby and Dedede already, so I feel like it would take a lot to convince him to take Meta Knight off the roster.
