I'm usually the most lax person around. There are certain things/situations, however, that completely destroy that fact.

No, I made a mistake in the post itself. The liquid demon can only possess normal humans, or those with very little/limited magical ability.
EDIT: I knew that, heck I came up with it, but still ended up forgetting.
P.S. The idea here is that this is the first liquid demon to leave central Africa, thereby even the hunters have no knowledge of it.
