Just fyi, for visualisation Icara's backpack works the same as Penny's. Two panels slide outwards and the wings fold out, then they fold back in and the panels slide shut.
Icara had turned to look down over her shoulder at the one who spoke to her when she was hit by the blast of air and teetered for a moment. She didn't appeared worried but still tried to correct herself, her arms wind-milling comically. She noticed yet another blur fly past her, and briefly wondered why everyone was trying to fly without wings. This though was still on her mind as she lost the fight with gravity and, with a thoughtful look on her face, she dropped off the the side of the airship, even as they other two returned to the safety of the deck. She disappeared through a cloud, without a sound, and was gone.
A second passed. Then another. And then after a rather tense moment Icara soared back into view, carried by a pair of shining metal wings. She twirled in the air as she flew back up over the railing and gave another little whoop of excitement, a huge grin on her face. And then, with a controlled flap of her wings, she dropped back down onto the deck, next to the other two how had gone for a tumble with her. "Now that was fun!" She said cheerfully as her wings gave another gentle flap and then folded mechanically up behind her and into the metal backpack she wore, which slid shut seamlessly.

Ok I have a new theory on the identity of mystery portal sword woman from the train.

Ok so the last episode's credits names mystery woman as Raven Branwen, which is Qrow's last name. Implying some family relation to the Rose/Xio Longs. Now Ruby and Yang's father is named Taiyang Xio Long, so not only does Yang go by her father's last name but also it means that Qrow cannot be related to the sister's through their father. Ruby must also go by her Mother's maiden name, "Rose" which means Qrow also cannot be related through Ruby's mother. This leaves only Yang's mother as the person through whom Qrow is related to the girls. Which would imply that Yang's Mother's maiden name is Branwen.
Therefore, Raven Branwen (Mystery Woman) can only be, through process of elimination, Yang's mother.

Icara Sorus was standing on the very top deck of the airship, out in the open air. She leaned against the railing and looked down at the City of Vale slowly rolling past far below. Any other person would've suffered horrible vertigo at the sight of such a drop, but Icara was unfazed. Infact she seemed to feed on the view. Icara was excited, to say the least. She'd never been to Vale before and, now that she was going to be attending Beacon Academy, she had a whole new city to explore. She smiled brightly as her eyes devoured that city, adventure was waiting for her down there, she just knew it. By the time she graduated from Beacon, she'd have made a name for herself and would be able to return to her family with pride.
Icara closed her eyes as a lovely breeze blew her way, running through her blonde hair and whipping the tails of her blue scarf out behind her. She opened her eyes and turned her attention upwards towards the wide blue sky. There was barely a cloud to be seen and the sun was shining brightly, glinting off the metal backpack that was strapped tightly to her back. It all served to heighten her good mood. Bio: In her early adolescence Allison was taken from her father to settle a substantial gambling debt, Her father was a poor working man with a nowhere job in Neptune's Bounty, Rapture's fishing district. Taken by gangsters, she was eventually sold, discretely, to Fontaine Futuristics. Fontaine Futuristics, in conjunction with Dr Brigid Tenenbaum, was conducting research into Adam. Allison was bought by Fontaine Futuristics to be used as a test subject into the Gatherer Project. The implantation of the Adam Slug did not have the desired effect, despite making her genetic structure highly adaptable, as she was simply too old and, once they discovered that younger girls were far better hosts, she was discarded, a failed experiment kept under lock and key.
Until Dr Yi Suchong was brought in for the Protector Project to create guardians for the Little Sisters. During the experimental phase of Dr Suchong's work he recognised that Allison's genetic malleability would make her an excellent candidate for the Protector Project and she was fitted into a set of armour similar to that of the Big Daddies. The expense required for the operation and the fact that subjects in her state were so scarce made the "Big Sister" an unrealistic solution and so Dr Suchong decided to focus his attention elsewhere. Allison underwent a great deal of mental conditioning, erasing all of her previous memories and making her see the Little Sisters as her own younger siblings, giving her an overpowering drive to protect them all. And she was unleashed in Rapture, a unique guardian of the little Gatherers.
Vigors/Plasmids:
Incinerate - Allison is able to cast explosive fireballs from the palms of her hands
Telekinesis - Allison is able to lift objects with the power of her mind and send them flying at enemies with great force
Static Discharge - When surrounded Allison is able to unleash a blast of electrical energy from her body to shock and possibly stun her enemies.
Weapons:
- Adam Harvesting Syringe mounted on her left wrist
- Spring-loaded Harpoon mounted on her right wrist
