Shock cracked her knuckles.

"Oh, I'll convince him all right. Come to think of it, it's been a while since I kicked his ass."

She stood up and smoothed down her skirt.

"I might even be nice and let him heal from whatever Lillith puts him through tonight first."

She grinned at the nickname.

"And don't you forget it," she said.

Shock made her way across the gazebo's roof to an area she knew she could safely drop down out of the serpent's reach.
"Well, if that idiot's happy..."

Shock leaned back and used her elbows to brace herself as she looked up at the sky. The sky began to lighten, now that it was after midnight. She frowned at the implication of Lock hooking up with Carmilla.

"He's an idiot sometimes, but even he's not that dumb. I'd have to knock some sense into him."

Shock smirked a little.

"Besides, it's not like he hasn't got other options. I've seen him check out Mummy Boy's older brother."
"I do need to maintain my home improvement skills," Shock agreed. "There's only so much I can do around the tree house."

She let out a wicked cackle at the thought of the vampires being forced to redecorate.

"It's a castle," she said in a thick Transylvanian accent, "where we have traditions and history."

Her mockery of the vampires complete, Shock laughed again.

"Bunch of stuffy old corpses, that lot. I don't know what Lock sees in Lillith, but he at least picked the least fussy one."

~~~
He smiled under her kiss, and at her bite, let out a soft noise of pleasure. Lock smirked when she pulled away. He licked the blood away, moving his tongue as a hint to what else he might do with it.
"As you wish," he said.
He taunted her with his tail again, taking full advantage of the fact that she didn't specify how to fight. Lock pulled her closer with the leg hooked around her waist and fought against her hold on him. He playfully bit her arm, knowing he'd pay for it in a moment. That didn't matter. All that mattered was getting her properly riled up.
His back would hurt by the time they finished, bruised from the force of her strength. Both of them would sport new bite marks as they nipped and played and eventually drew blood. And when they tired each other out, all they had to do was knock one of the coffins over to curl inside. The old tomb would shield Lillith from the sun's rays, but the coffin provided some comfort as they curled against one another. It was also the only time he rested on top of her, due to their difference in size.
They had the rest of the day to be together, before Lillith inevitably had to slip back just before dusk. Lock gently curled his tail around her waist as he nuzzled against her.
Right now, nothing else existed but the two of them, and it was all he wanted or needed.
Shock handed it over, not that there was much left to smoke.
"Unless she's on a date with Lock and already distracted," she said.
She actually laughed at the thought of making Carmilla choose her misery.
"While we sit on her coffin."
~~~

Lock fought her, though it was clear he wasn't putting his full effort into it, especially when she pinned him down. He grinned right back, and slid his tail where it would torment her the most.

"Who said I wanted to?" he asked.

He hooked one leg around her waist, but kept his other foot braced against the floor. Lock then sat up just enough to kiss her, even as she held him down.
"Easy," Shock said as she flicked more ash. "I do it on Halloween when they're all away, then kidnap Carmilla and throw her inside before they get home."

She took another drag, then smirked.

"That stuff mortal boys wear is pretty nauseating," she agreed.

One of the downsides of passing as a costumed mortal meant run-ins with them, much to her chagrin. At least until she figured out how to use their interest to her advantage. Even then, though...

"Even mortal girls avoid it."

~~~
The second her fingers clasped around his wrist, Lock struggled to pull away. He smirked as he ran the tip of his tail over her leg, and rested his back against the coffin.
"No one hurts me like you do," he said coolly.
Lock shifted his head slightly to give her more access to his neck, though his free hand clasped her shoulder and pushed her back as a direct taunt. He slid his tail over her legs and slightly between, then braced his legs to keep her back for as long he was able.
Shock ignored her presence for a moment, more focused on the streets below. She clasped the cigarette between two fingers and let it burn for a moment, as though pondering if she wanted the rest of it or not. Finally, she took another drag, but didn't face Carver when she finally spoke.
"...I'm gonna stuff her coffin full of garlic," she said. "With her in it."
When it came to any of the tricksters, such a statement could be venting. It could also be a legitimate plan for vengeance, and Shock didn't indicate either way.
"Maybe even rub it straight into the wood."
~~~

"Then maybe they should just fight and get it over with," Lock said as he flicked a bit of ash.

Unlike Shock, who enjoyed an occasional cigarette because of the potential damage she could do with it, Lock found the burning smell fairly calming. Something about it put him at ease, a deep, visceral need that eased his mind and soothed his soul. He took another drag, then turned to Lillith.

"Well, she got her wish," Lock said with a smirk.

With his petty vengeance, admittedly, but it was one thing for him or Barrel to get on Shock's nerves. It was another thing entirely for Carmilla to do it. He finished the cigarette and snuffed it against the floor, then hid the remains behind one of the coffins. His tail slid under her skirt and played at her ankles, as a small test to his girlfriend's mood.
She had tossed the first cigarette butt to the street below and started a second when she heard the serpent underneath the gazebo...and by the way its jaws snapped, it happily chomped down on some sort of snack.

Shock turned around to see a familiar figure climb up. She narrowed her eyes.

"What do you want?" she asked.

While her tone was overall snippy, there was an underlying hint that she didn't mind the company.

~~~
"Like I don't know that?" Lock asked. "It's not like we have parents or uncles who can put her in her place."
He crossed his arms and leaned against a nearby coffin.
"Like it or not, Shock's the boss," Lock explained, "and she fought - in every concievable way - to get there. The band is pretty much the only time I can tell her what to without a brawl. And I don't put her on lead just to keep her happy, Lillith. She really does work at it."
He reached into his pocket for a cigarette pack and some matches. Lock lit one up and took a drag before he spoke again, careful to blow the smoke away from Lillith.
"Long story short, though, Shock sees Carmilla as a threat to her authority. And practice is on our turf, in our home. I might have control of the band, but we all have to be in agreement about who's welcome."
He took a thoughtful drag as he collected his thoughts.
"Look...I know the work you two do for the band, but Carmilla needs to fucking cool it about the lead position and her tutoring. Because if she doesn't suck up to Shock, it's going to lead to a fight, and I'm not going to bat for her if Shock decides she's no longer welcome. Hate to say it, but it's her ass or mine, and I don't live with Carmilla."
Lock had barely started to crawl into the window when Carmilla zoomed past him. He stuck out his tongue - not that the young vampiress would see when she was already soaring out of the ravine - and reached for the rope ladder leading up to the bridge. He felt a gentle weight land on his tail and shot Lillith a small smile before he continued his ascent. The nip on his tail sent another faint tinge of gray to his cheeks, though it faded almost as quickly as it came.
"Oh, you're in that kind of mood tonight," he said, a smirk on his lips.
Lock curled his tail so Lillith could comfortably hang from it, then climbed onto the bridge. He kept his tail as still as he could as he walked, which said a lot, given his excitement.
"I know just the place."
He headed for the cemetery, which wasn't too far from the outskirts of town. In fact, the infamous spiral hill could be seen from the tree house, and the graveyard's back entrance wasn't too far from their home.
Down in the lair, Barrel just shrugged and kept playing the drums. He actually had good beat and rhythm, and the cacophony from the drums even sounded almost like a song on their own. He just didn't always like playing the notes in front of him.
"Sounds good," Barrel called after her. "Hope you don't mind ghoul-lash!"
It was quick, easy, and he could make a lot of it - which given his appetite, would ensure there was some left for the others. A perfect meal for after practice.
~~~

There were several places around town that the trickster trio liked to go when one of them needed solo time away the tree house. Some of those places were shared, while others, one of the group preferred over the others. Lock's favorite places were the alleyway behind Town Hall and several nooks and crannies around the residential areas where he could easily smoke and toss the cigarette into a sewer grate, much to the annoyance of those who lived in the underground sewage slums. The sewers themselves were Barrel's favorite, and they were so massive, it was often difficult to find him in the same spot twice, though he had a few favorite places to linger down there. Shock was more varied. The ravine below the tree house had a little cavern that was perfectly dark and gloomy. Some of the tombstones in the graveyard offered decent shelter for a young monster not wanting to be seen. There was a hidey-hole in the pumpkin patch among some particularly thick vines that were difficult to pass. She even sometimes went to the Hinterlands, down a small path just inside the forest that lead to a lake.

Today, Shock decided on a harder-to-reach place. There was an elevated gazebo that marked a centerpiece in the residential area, where a deadly bone serpent lived and periodically came out of its acid pool to snap its jaws at anyone that passed by. With some careful navigating, Shock pulled herself up onto the roof of the gazebo and sat on the edge where she could observe the streets and the citizens below. She heard the serpent below her, frustrated that it knew someone was there, but couldn't reach.

Good. Let something else share her frustration.

Shock watched the Corpse Family pass by, with Corpse Kid ooo-ing at the serpent, his mother keeping him on his leash and promising that they could feed it on the way back. The Mayor's hearse drove by several minutes later, undoubtedly headed to Jack's house for whatever they were planning this Halloween.

Heh. Come to think of it, Jack's yard might be a good place to cool off in the future. The crevice behind the house and underneath the front steps would definitely be a place no one would expect her to be. So long as no one saw her go in, and if she didn't do anything to draw attention to herself, even her brothers wouldn't think to look there.

But she had a good spot here, where no one would notice her unless they looked out the windows of the taller buildings around the area. And even if they did, she wasn't doing anything wrong.

Yet.

Shock reached into her boot for an old standby: her slingshot. Only her brothers had been truer friends, and right now, the urge to cause trouble, to make someone else miserable for five minutes, overcame her. A search of her pockets turned up some small, round bone pieces. Shock glanced down to see who was passing by now: the Cyclops. With a grin, she surveyed the area and made some quick mental calculations and trajectory, then carefully aimed her slingshot.

The bone piece rocketed into a nearby roof, ricocheted back to the gazebo, knocked into a lantern on the way down and pelted the Cyclops right in the eye.

"Aaarrgh!"

Shock grinned and laughed, letting her voice echo from the buildings around them. The Cyclops heard her, and even looked up in her direction, but he definitely couldn't see her with his hands over his eye to try to wipe away the pain.

"You nasty brat!" he cried.

Shock settled herself, then walked to a different part of the gazebo's roof so no one else would see she was there. She felt a little better, admittedly, but she was still peeved at Lock. It wasn't even about the lead position, not really, even if she worked hard to maintain it. It was that her little brother let her hated rival get one over her, and that simply wouldn't do.

The band was better before Carmilla. Lillith was a damn pushover to convince Lock to let her twin join in. And she suspected he let her just to make his girlfriend happy.

Shock put the slingshot away and traded it out for a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. The nicotine did nothing for her, being undead, but the sensation of smoke and the feel of something even a little dangerous in her hands often helped her mood.

~~~
A large old crypt covered in dust and spiderwebs stood as a secondary centerpiece in the graveyard after the spiral hill. Lock scoured the area, knowing Sally liked to come here sometimes - and he definitely wanted to be alone with Lillith for this.
"Hey...can we talk?" Lock asked as he walked down the coffin corridor, since at least this part was empty.
He moved his tail to better be face-to-face with the bat on the end of it.
"Well...more like, can you talk to Carmilla? I need her to stop pestering Shock. I can't deal with her outside of practice."
"Not every week," Lock said.
It wasn't his fault the band couldn't always hear his masterpieces until the hundredth time. But at least when they got it right, it came to life better than one of Finkelstein's creations, which made the frustration of their rehearsals worth it. Eventually. Lock then turned to Carmilla.
"I know you will," he said, before he glanced to Lillith.
He didn't answer her, only smirked before he made his way up the rope ladder. His tail twitched mischievously.
"You're the best, Carmilla!" he called down as he reached the top.
"Oh, he can," Barrel said. "He just can't get past the bridge."
He grinned as he tapped the snare and hit the cymbal.
After a few rounds and some notes on changes and improvements, Lock called it. Just to get in his jibe at Shock, he had them start "Siren Song" to get a feel for it. By the end of practice, he was in a better mood, partially because Shock wasn't. As they put things away for next week (minus the drums and xylophone; both were big enough that they usually just left them where they were), Lock made his final comments.
"Barrel, you really need to practice," he said.
"I dooo," Barrel whined.
"Not well enough," Lock said, still a bit irritated. "We'll work on it tomorrow."
Barrel crossed his arms and stuck his tongue out at Lock. Lock ignored him and turned to Carver.
"Get with me on the note changes. Those were...actually not bad."
His tone softened as he got to the twins. While he spoke to both, his focus was more distinctly on Lillith.
"The new song's going to be amazing," he said. "It'll be perfect for a mid-show line-up."
Shock rolled her eyes as she broke down the mike stand to put it away. She was still peeved that Lock even gave Carmilla an inch.
"Yeah, yeah, vocals," she said before Lock could even say anything to her. "Like I'm not always practicing."
"I'm counting on it," Lock shot back.
Shock finished packing away the microphone before she made her way to the rope ladder. She didn't say another word as she quickly scaled it and left the lair. Lock just shook his head, letting her go off to wherever she was going to go off to to vent and cool off. He'd had his fun. And because he had his fun, he knew it was best to not be home tonight.
"See you guys next week?" he asked, mostly to address Carver and Carmilla.
Barrel had gotten back into his usual pattern of hitting whatever drums he felt like. Now that they weren't practicing, Lock didn't care as much.
