Oh crap, I was actually planning my post so that Ivy and Orin have already been on the island for a week or so. But looking at the opener, it looks like the firmament is still there. Somehow I had it in my head that their arrival and subsequent opening of the rift was so quiet and anticlimactic that barely anyone noticed it at all. I guess I should have verbalized that or something. XD

Should I get in a post before yours to establish that the whole veil dissipates? It doesn't have to be an earth-shattering event, maybe there was a mild temperature inversion or something.

Perhaps Avis has coordinates, but they don't make sense. Like they're coordinates that reasonably shouldn't exist or something, heh.
Woo! I'll post after I see where yours is going.

No objections, 76. I'm drawing a blank for what the artifact could be. An out-of-left-field idea is that this artifact makes you forget WHAT it is if you conceal it with the intention of hiding it. So Ivy gets on the island, buries the artifact somewhere, and then notices that her memory is full of surgically precise holes. That would mean the artifact's magic is ridiculously powerful and oddly specific. It's also a very contrived way of delaying the reveal of this artifact, LOL. I suppose more sensible questions to consider would be: Who made it? A person, "the land"? Why is it outside the island instead of inside it? Does it function as a key, an on/off switch, a fail-safe, or something that only works when broken? Mysteries, oOOo. Is it small and portable, or just medium-sized?

Perhaps it can provide minor navigation instructions to the island or straight-up guide/bring the user there. My character has read about boats but never captained one herself, so reaching this uncharted territory alone is nothing short of a miracle. Or she simply goes with her father, who then departs, much to her dismay.
I looked at some Rune Factory screenshots and I'm not sure if it's my kind of game, LOL. I'm going to try it out if I can find a ROM, though. Do you think I should start with Rune Factory 1, 2 or 3?

Nonetheless, I think I'm interested! What's the slice-of-life to plot ratio? I assume all characters can be from different places, but do we find ourselves in the same town somehow? That would be the desert city of Ekrem, right? Is it in the middle of an extreme desert or is it just kind of arid? I see you have 'town roles' listed as character positions.

Can you tell me a bit about the Sech Empire? What is their goal? Right now I'm considering a character from the Sech Empire (a pseudo-exile, if you will) or just a human witch character.

I'm going as a slutty ________ [fill in the blank].
I've posted - if anyone's confused, I've basically made a secondary scene of action over by Fleur in the forest, so you can join us there or over by Killian and Jehu. Hopefully I didn't get too carried away. I imagine everyone will converge at some point.
Arista had heard the Tanemon’s warning cry. She could register the frantic commotion in the air, with Tanemon scattering to hide and Digimon and Tamer alike leaping into action. But any thought she might have had was arrested. Her mind seemed to have frozen solid.

"Lorre said there are bad Digimon coming – let’s go!" RubyBearmon pulled Arista aside. She was still looking into the distance, where it was still too dark to see anything coming. Again, RubyBearmon tugged her arm, this time with enough force to knock her off balance. As she recovered her footing they broke into an all-out sprint.

They had not run very far but she thought her heart was going to burst. The two dove into a low and dense bush. Arista landed with her face inches from Fleur and Dracmon. Finding herself breathless, she greeted them a weak smile. Her Digimon reassured the shocked Tanemon.

Blood pounded in her ears. A while had passed, yet she dared not move. There was faint shuffling outside the bush. Then, very clearly: the click of a gun being loaded.

RubyBearmon gingerly pushed a branch down and they peered through the opening. A large squad of Commandramon had two or three Tanemon cornered. "No." Arista had grabbed RubyBearmon’s shoulder; her knuckles were turning white. Even though her voice barely crested a whisper, it was pained and desperate. "There’s like a million Tanemon in this bush. If they hear us, we’re all goners."

Derisive laughing rang across the meadow. RubyBearmon shot out of the bush. "Get away from them! Rolling Bear!" He sped away faster than Arista could see. His unflinching hesitation for suicide tactics had left her speechless. She stumbled after him but she stopped dead barely a yard beyond the bush. A dozen Mekanorimon had emerged from the shadows.
I'll have my post up tomorrow~
Nice, Estylwen. I look forward to seeing Avis in action. Re-posting my CS, as it's ready for any feedback.

Ivy Kachess | 24 | female

Personality: If you were to liken her to a type of explorer, Ivy would be the one seemingly present in her surroundings, yet constantly stealing glances at the distance. Despite (or perhaps because of) having lived an undifficult life, she finds herself on the lookout for something... more. Vague dissatisfaction is nothing unique in a would-be adventurer, but paired with the sense that things will always turn out for the best, it manifests as surprising recklessness. Ivy doesn't require a plan in order to act, as she simply does what feels right at the time. She is often too self-absorbed for subtlety.

Background: By the grace of her father's work, Ivy grew up as an unwilling beneficiary of the war-making World Government. In the inner sanctum of the capital, being a faraway witness to the imperium's ruthless colonization efforts was the only price to pay for an acceptable standard of living. Orin Kachess was the renaissance man responsible for discovering untapped energy sources for the government to scrape up. Ivy didn't exactly approve of the World Government's shameless exploitation and pollution, but in a country starved of resources, she had little choice in the matter. When her father wasn't there to regale her with stories of his travels, she chased away the boredom by reading about various subjects: the past, mostly. It was a way to withdraw from the endless political machinations all around her. Yet when Orin came home with a mysterious artifact and a tale about an uncharted continent, Ivy couldn't help but to indulge her curiosity and follow this clue to its logical conclusion.

Posting this here because it's still a working character concept.

She's an outsider character, so I assumed a bunch of stuff. Like, I assumed that the World Government... governs the world, but they have to stamp out the occasional rebellion. I can tweak stuff as needed. As you can see, she is in possession of this magical item that is the key to the beyond: a non-functional, unwieldy giant sword? A small box that no one can open? xD I'm wondering how she can get in on the festivities with Tawara if she were to come in immediately. Perhaps Ivy left on the World Government's coalition to this place and ditched them at some point to see the island for herself. But that means the integrity of the firmament wavered with no one noticing.
