Joseph is out going and outspoken when it comes to making new friends, this is mostly because he wants to hide his true self. He will act social and friendly when inwardly he couldn’t care less about the feelings and interests of other people. Sure he will get to know and call you “friend” but he will just as quickly alienate you once he feels you are no longer necessary.

History:
From a young age Joseph loved computers. This included taking them apart, putting the together, and finding out how the software works. At 10 Joseph’s dad came home to Joseph sitting in the middle of the floor with computer parts strewn all over, and Joseph carefully examining each one and placing it back onto the computer’s mother board. Josephs dad wanted to discipline his son, but while waiting for him to finish with the computer he could not see a reason to. He simply told him not to take the computer apart without asking unless it was his.

A few years down the road Joseph, now in high school, became the tech lab assistant and helped with minor tech issues around the school. This did not last long when they found out that most of Joseph’s time spent in the computer lab was writing bug software, and viruses. They were not sure how to handle the situation further than expulsion from the lab, but they knew something had to be done about what he was doing. They notified his parents, who in turn made sure that he never got to another computer for the rest of the school year unsupervised.

Gradating for high school at 16 Joseph did go very far with his interests. He got a job at a computer store where he would eventually buy and assemble his computer, only the first of many. His room was transformed into a small data server with four computers that he used for various tasks seeming to blur the line between what is legal and not. Now 17 Joseph can find his way around most any computer system, bypass locked software, and with is tablet he can access whatever he comes across.

Inventory:
Smart watch that connects to both his smartphone and tablet (these never leave his possession.)

Spare batteries for his devices as well as chargers.

Money:
His family does not have a lot of money; his father works a middle employment job at a law firm.

Other:
His Family didn’t really ‘win’ this trip. Joseph was able to figure out the contest system, and flooded it with useless raw data nested with their submission. The system interpreted the raw data as junk, but didn’t catch to request. After the system dumped the useless data into its trash holding rather than deleting the request, The data did its work at re-sending the request from the trash file. The system, in return, did not know how to handle the request as it was labeled submission request, as internal trash, and from an external source. This caused the system to crash temporarily, and when it came back online the request had mysteriously ended up in the accepted winners file.

Tangled Conspiracies

Brief History

The year is 2067 and a lot has changed from the first half of the century. Many of these changes have been brought about by the advancements in technology and computers. In 2020 war broke out in the Middle East after many years of civil war between factions struggling for control. What sparked the war were nuclear strikes on Russia and Europe throwing the world into chaos as alliances were made, forces were assembled, and a war like never before ensued. For five years the war went on until Japan, Europe, and The United States signed a treaty that also merged their theologies research allowing the formation of Soldier Assisted Implants and the Robotic Soldier. These, once incorporated into the fight, tipped the scales ending the war. The years that followed saw a worldwide depression for the governments. During the war many of the governments ordered hundreds and even thousands of the SAI and Robotic Soldiers, which after the war bankrupted many of them. The Tech Conglomerate was smart and foresaw a situation passing that they become and Independent Corporation from the governments they worked for.

In 2029 the conglomerate known as WT Development owned five of the world’s governing powers: The US, Japan, China, Russia, and Europe. With this they began to privatize the police force making it mandatory to be outfitted with the latest Net Gear. When it started as just ways to monitor the vitals and overall health of all the officers, but rapidly grew to have many other functions. Robotic Soldiers were being used with the police forces, controlled by a handler via their Net Gear. With these major advancements came the luxury devices and systems, Professional/Recreational Robots, Net Gear Industrial Vehicles, and a great deal of other things. All of this technology did not go without drawbacks; glitches, Neural Overloads, Memory Wipes… these were but a few of the tragedies that came to first and even second gen users. The worst of it though was the people who chose to exploit the systems and cause their own kind of trouble.

With the growing size of interconnected systems the ability to track this new breed of hackers was near impossible. Even with the new advances in security programs, and tracers these people were always evading justice. Special task forces were made by WT Development and issued to each country in order to track down and persecute these abusers of the system that was in 2048. By 2055 These groups were being called Chasers or Tracers, and now in 2067 they have brought major Cyber Crimes to a minimum.

Starting Story

In the past ten years the SCC (Special Cyber Crimes) Task Forces have been producing results far beyond that of any other investigative force. The cyber-crime has come to an all-time low since the mass integration of the Net Gear technology. Most of this progress has been due to the controversial “No interference” policy stating that when tasked to investigate a crime the SCC has full jurisdiction over all related materials, and decisions of action. The governments argue that this causes more damage than what is prevented, but the WT will say that a prevented reactor meltdown, crashed satellite, or Net Gear wipe out ways most collateral that follows. Some teams have been discharged now that things are under control, freeing up more funds for the remaining teams.

WT can’t help but feel that this kind of calm only comes before a storm, and has put its monitoring systems on full sweep looking for patterns and correlations to crimes and transactions. As of late they have found several corporations that seem to be evading red flags, but reports in the areas strike out patterns with no one to trace back to. WT feels that it is time to look into these reports and see what can be found before the tracks are covered for good, contacting their team based in the eastern US with instructions to mobilize.

The setting is post Technological Singularity, but would be related to the "Ghost in the Shell" series while predating and not in the same timeline. The group will operate from and move around to the following cities: Chicago United States, Tokyo Japan (will be explained), Moscow Russia, and/or Paris France. As a task force against the now rapid growing threat of cyber attacks, data mining, and info high-jacking that is ultimately under their own authority when the circumstances get out of hand. Like I said this would be story driven as the team leads an open investigation trying to track down the leaders of a Blue Collar crime conspiracy. While trying to find the leaders of the interconnected criminal underground to get information on who they work for, they must also battle the bureaucratic walls and red-tape put up buy the High Society empire leaders that may be somehow linked to what would classified as Corporate and International Espionage. I have a few of the characters for the story being worked up and will start working on the current state of the world we will play in when I get some free time over winter break.

Tony Leland

Tony Leland is the son and inheritor of Leland Co. which is one of the largest accounting, banking, and investment handlers worldwide. For the longest time Tony’s father, Ross Leland, tried to include his son in the company knowing that he would one day take over when he left, but Tony was more interested in the high society life of cars, parties, and girls. To him the company would always be there, and he could learn about it when he felt like it. Little did he know that his father was in fading health and would pass sooner that they had expected. Gleaning what he could from his dying father Tony realized too late that life was not always what he was planning for. Now thrown into the leadership of the family company he is learning a great deal about his father’s line of work for the first time.

Jon Harper

Jon Harper is the owner of many different shipping lines that run cross country, aviation, and oceanic. Though he has not been alive long enough to watch the full evolution of this area of business; He has been able to make a grey reputation and figure out the blurred lines of business. There are some people that say Mr. Harper has been responsible for many devastating crimes to businesses that lead to his almost full monopoly of the shipping industry.

Chester Barton

Chester Barton is the board director for the energy company W.H. Solar, leading edge of clean energy production and used almost worldwide. His company has been known for its helping hand in making new ways of energy harvest and use, as well as cleaning polluted areas. He has been a part of this company for 37 years and had the privilege of helping engineer and integrate many developments in both power and transportation. Mr. Barton leaned his skills from many years of schooling, training, and history, but as of late the company has been lending money to operations and projects that seem to pop up and disappear overnight. Some of the board members want to know what is happening, but can’t seem to get through to Mr. Barton.

Kyle Thresh

Not a lot is known about Mr. Thresh personally other than he is sitting on one of the largest business empires in the world. Mr. Thresh is what is known now as a Business Puppeteer, buying 51% or more of a business and running it from his tower in the clouds. It is said that he owns most banks, police, courts, lawyers, and even his own private army. He doesn’t make public appearances, doesn’t meet with his company heads, and doesn’t make phone calls direct. Rumors say that you can’t do so much as spit without him knowing when and where.
