I'm not opposed to hearing about the history, I love history, but I don't want to feel like I have to be tied to it, nor do I want anyone else in the RP to feel like they have to be either. If I don't let the details go and free myself up, I get a little too worried about the details and it impacts my enjoyment and my flexibility as a GM. But by all means, if something comes up that is pertinent or even just interesting, please tell us about it. I love that sort of thing. I'm currently in a world history class and loving it, but oddly frustrated by the great sweeping movements of information. I'm hoping I have an elective left over at some point to take a more focused history class, for fun. You might find this interesting, it was that got me thinking about this RP in the first place. I've worked things well past the article, using fairy tales to inspire and help me loosen up on the details, but it was a launching point for me.

I think in the end you might miss the days where you learned about the general large swathes of history dotted here and there with the individual moments of brilliance. When you take it as far as I have you start getting into philosophy and it becomes less about stories and more about complications.

Still awesome though.

I'll be sure to mention anything I remember that's interesting here and there. Also, the article looks interesting. I always found it fascinating that so few people could seize the landmass of Russia in its entirety. Europeans sure as hell couldn't.

He looks good, I'm happy to have you on board. However I want to reiterate that this is a fantasy, inspired by Russian Fairy tales. We are aiming for a general ambiance of a fairy-tale Russia/Slavic region, evoking images of red-cheeked people in furs with onion-domes in the distance and sleighs pulled through woods that may or may not contain a house on chicken legs. There is no time period this pulls from specifically. If something adds to the story and ambiance I will use it, but I don't want to be tangled in the details of what/when/how. There will be serfs if you like and land owners, down in the lowlands, but not up on the mountain. Things are different on the mountain closed off and isolated even more so than the whole country. There is a underlying sense of them and us in their dealings with anyone who does not live on the mountain. I do appreciate the list of NPC's. Are any off limits? Or are they all free for the taking? Also, are people checking the OP? I've put a few things up including most of the CSs.

My NPC's are free to use as you (or anyone else) wants.

I'll try to focus on the fantasy as you said, I just love Russian history and find it a little hard to drop it sometimes, but the mountain isolation argument makes sense.

Looks great Kraft! Igraine, you know how I love those connections! If we get a few more CS's up I can see us launching this weekend if that works for all. Anyone have an opinion on the whole "to gun or not to gun," issue?

I love fables and stories and would like to jump in on this, but my two-cent on the gun or not to gun situation is historically Russians maintained archery (particularly Ol'fashioned bows) long into the firearm age. Probably because guns were so expensive and unreliable at the time. So there's no reason why both can't exist, though hunters would almost certainly have preferred bows. It wouldn't be unrealistic to say there just isn't anyone rich enough to have a firearm in the town.

(also, as an aside, when I first saw the banner I thought it was depicting Master Chief in a winter coat, and now I can't unsee it.)
Azarak would have hardly flinched from the sudden burst of liquids launched at him when he regained his footing within the room, had he been in his demonic form.

But he wasn’t.

With the restrictive human body his only tool for the job, fragile and pathetic as it may be, he had to rely on speed and manoeuvrability rather than a dogged power and durability. Hence, relying on the fact that the fastenings for his jacket had broken sometime earlier in the night, he shrugged the restrictive clothing off and threw it into the path of what he had no way of knowing was acid. It was a close cut thing, and even as he moved away from its path (assuming realistically that the material may not stop his opponent’s acid, nor what he briefly saw was a follow up charge) he skirted rightwards and further into the building. The acid cut through the jacket but it didn't find any purchase on the demon himself, nimble as his dodge was. It had also put him further away from his opponent’s intended target, possibly allowing Azarak the chance to level his pistol at the rapidly approaching quarry.

Blood dripped down his spine... staining his pure white shirt, determination set upon his face.

He seems like he should be in tier 3 to me, given that he's just under the max in literally every single rating (except skill, where he may very well exceed the max with his ability to strike with melee attack and perform acrobatic feat, heavily implying that he knows them all and can perform them correctly).

Well, that's just not really true, is it, really.

He's actually quite a bit under the durability and speed checks, and his skill is only comparable to a human in every feat he can partake in. (The fact that the skills are more effective due to his superhuman attributes doesn't change his ability to carry out actions any human can do with some practice.)

Hell, I didn't even make him a superhuman sword-fighter, which would be stupid, because everything in Arena is down to my actions anyway, and I know I'm no brilliant sword master.

So yeah, he can deliver the strikes I decide with brilliant (for a human) poise and precision, but considering that's only considered a T0 skill in this system, you're just blatantly wrong eh. Except for the strength check, which I only specified as being able to lift a man (with some effort) with one arm. I would only put his max lift at roughly 800kg.
Well, this is awkward, after just finishing a character who's power is also based around the emotions of his opponent. If you think it's too OP an ability (and more importantly there's a consensus on it, because I'd like to know how some of the others feel about fighting someone like that) I'll change it. Though my two-sense is that all an ability like that really does is allows a greater degree of depth to a fight, because it forces the other person to acknowledge a major component of real duels which is always lacking in RP fights (the psychological.) and actually allow it to influence their characters in battle. Which is a fun learning experience for all of us! Yeah! (except Nobody, who I honestly think plays Evvie in the most realistic way of any fighter in Arena that I've seen.)

Also, sorry if I've messed anything up, I feel incredibly rusty for some reason.

Collab with me Melon. She is kinda important

Aight, how do you want to do it? PMs?
Actually Hellis, do you mind if I take control of your NPC's to get to the Keep? I don't want to drag my heels too much if possible.
Joshua actually grinned further when his hand was seized in a vice-like grip. Though it was certainly painful, and impressive, he was always one to give as much as he got. As to her questioning of his position as a priest (something he made no particular effort to hide, except for the removal of his robes official insignia.) he had no comment. Though the querying of armour was of interest to him, considering he had acquired an iron breast-plate many years prior and took to wearing it under his robes when he expected trouble. Armour suited a big man like himself, he couldn’t move out the way of attacks all that quickly any-how, but he had the strength to carry a skin of iron like it were nothing, and it could very well save his life.

“I’d be glad to wear some of your armour, assuming it’s a little better worn than whatever made that mess.” He nodded at the damage to the inn with an easy smile. Any further conversation was cut off as the Orch, after he devoured a huge meal in a disturbing amount of time, entered conversation with the elf. The human was only half listening at this point, more interested in filling his belly he looked around the tavern, until he was being talked to again.

“Oh, sounds good to me.” Joshua replied with genuine gratitude, he was never one to turn down a free meal. “What’s this going on at the keep then?” He asked, only a short while later, the last remnants of a bread roll still in one hand as he followed the Elf back to the keep, retracting his steps from only a short while earlier, acutely aware that this was cutting into his relatively rare free time with only minor irritation.
