So I am at an inherent disadvantage?

Hardly, you can put yourself on top of a hill if you post first, as just one example.
This one would be easy, the Trollish warrior thought to himself. He obviously had little knowledge of how to pursue a guerrilla fighter, his ranged weapons clumsy and easily avoided by the nimble warrior priest. However, Jaldoa was not one for overconfidence either, so he jumped from his tree somewhat further right, using his ward to see as he quickly found the cover of another tree in mid-air before dropping to the ground about fifteen feet to his foe’s left.

He crouched low to absorb the momentum and sped around the tree from his left side, likely confusing his foe when coming out from the side he was falling towards would have made more sense considering the momentum he had. Holding his staff low and to the left of his body he lumbered towards his enemy with quick long strides. He zigzagged with each step, to better avoid projectiles, and reached four feet from Chester in no more than two seconds as he swung the staff outwards from his body low to strike at his foe’s stomach. His quick assault would carry him forward and past the human’s right side, where Jaldoa would slow and turn, ready to deliver more attacks.

And my character is not permitted to use the Tyrant's call in the first post?

Nope, as you are the first poster you can't launch an attack or charge. It would be rather meta after all. T1 says so anyway.

Wow Descartes, you must have had a lot of fun making that character. Every line of that profile is solid gold, especially the shoes.

It's like he somehow knew how to create a character which would annoy me as much as physically possible.
Blood splattered the rotted walls, mostly bright and vibrant red but with the unusual dots of green mixed within. The ruined mansion had hosted an epic battle, one which was reaching its dramatic conclusion as steel thudded against hard carapace and claws scored metal and flesh.

The Vampire had made a formidable enemy, the Archivist thought sardonically within his great mind, where most would be wholly concentrating on the fight. The spider-like being with the grotesque human upper-body relished the challenge as he caught a blade with his upper left forearm. Vanarus, his vampiric foe, cool and calculating despite his predicament, was still determined to end his alien foe, regardless of his nobleman’s attire torn to rags and the number of wounds which pulsated with poison across his undead body. He bounced back and lashed out with his rapier, the Chalice, hoping to take the creature across the body despite how it had turned back even the most powerful of his strikes throughout their duel.

The Akarid scholar allowed the blade to rend into his hard carapace, and then struck back with both of his right arms, sending Vanarus head-first through the worn wooden wall and leaving him dazed on the ground of what was once the master bedroom.

“Fitting I should die in my bedroom, it is after all how I hoped to finally end this existence.” Vanarus whispered, reaching for his blade with one clawed hand. The Archivist dropped two of his spidery legs down on his foe and allowed himself a moment of triumph.

“You made a formidable foe, of course, be honoured your data will be added to the Archive.” The spider like being known as the Archivist rasped. Poison began to pool from his sharp claws as he prepared to end the battle, his curiosity satisfied. However, before he could deliver the final blow a light appeared, and he received an offer he could not refuse.

‘“I am Skallagrim, and you have been extended an invitation to attend the Nexus of Worlds Tournament. When you are ready merely call my name and I shall open the gate to the Great Hall of Worlds.”’

The skeletal being rang with immense power as it appeared before him and delivered its invitation, and his data-pad nearly short-wired. The ancient prophecies of the Akarid had come true, he would be able to finally complete the near empty entry on the Dreamer race!

Without hesitation, he spoke the creature’s name, only at the last moment remembering Vanarus on the floor. He shrugged inwardly; there would be time to finish the vampire later if necessary, for now there were far more exciting prospects at hand. The Archivist stepped through the portal and entered the Hall of Worlds.

The Archivist initially declined the option of retiring to his room, ignoring everything but the very place he found himself within at first as his Data-pad scanned the strange environment around him. The Data was stored just as quickly as he could point the device at it, a clicking noise at the back of his throat the only visible sign of his excitement. Soon though, he would turn his attentions to those he had the pleasure of slaying in the ensuing conflict.
The Ward is just designed to momentarily stun people with a sudden and unexpected burst of Loa Magic. It's hard to avoid if you don't know it's coming, one major limitation is that it can only be used as a trap, I can't just throw it at your feet because you have to enter the 10ft radius (or whatever it was) after its already been activated.

It's up to you how long your character would be reasonably stunned for, though a second would probably be the minimum.
Jaldoa’s nimble escape was only momentarily interrupted by a bright unnatural light which he first assumed was magic. Intelligent in his own right, the jungle Troll wisely slid underneath the waist-high light clearling it by a significant margin as his flexible body contorted. He bounced up from the ground again, scattering leaves and undergrowth as he continued his run around to his tree.

After reaching it he found himself with only a short distance separating him and his opponent, blocked partially by a few trees sporadically placed across their battlefield. He ran behind the Oak and clutched it with one strong hand, pulling himself high up into the branches in a matter of seconds as he disappeared in the leafy expanse. Jaldoa took only a moment to consider the light from earlier, apparently his foe could spot him in a way no normal creature could. The human was not the only one who could see, he thought smugly.

His practiced hands found his seeing ward, and he threw it to the ground off to the right of the battlefield. It didn’t really matter if his foe spotted it, but if he made a move to attack it he would leave himself open to the Troll who was now perched in the tree and ready for even the smallest move his foe could make.
However, if you insist on throwing your thingy, I'll re-write my post to have my character jumping over it if you want, the end goal will be the same though.
My character was taking a round-about route, but it would have still only taken him a matter of five seconds at the most, and the fact that his route was round-about would have just made it harder for your vertex to intercept him.

I'm just making an issue of it now rather than later, especially as the interrupt seems pointless on your characters end as my character has stopped at the end of my post, if he took half a second longer to watch he would have noticed Jaldoa stopping and wouldn't need to interrupt anything.

It also flows a lot better than me having to re-write my entire piece for the exact same goal, we'll end up in the same place just with my character more clued up to your abilities after jumping over or under your Vertex thing.
You mentioned that they were some form of distraction, so I just stated in their current form they had no effect on Jaldoa, nor did he notice them.

How quickly did your character manage all of that? My character had the momentum yours didn't remember, so the moment he hit the ground he was rolling and running away, while your character was mid-roll followed by throwing coins at empty air and then pulling out some thingy and then spotting my character through the trees and then intercepting with his coins. I could probably run that distance faster than your character could do those things, but my jungle troll definitely could.
