Hey there :) Open to fantasy + romance. I have some ideas for characters for dimension-jumping that I've been using, but I am also interested in that dimension-hopping idea you have. Here are a couple of samples from an rp I'm currently in:
Ruli's image before her flickered into nothing, and she sighed, falling back against the rock face. The illusions were getting harder to fight off. It took all of Kire's willpower not to panic at Jazira's and Peliah's words. She became painfully aware of her trembling hands at she grasped the sword-hilt. No Ruli. "Then there is no other way to find him but to go deeper," she said, straightening up, not allowing herself to fall apart now. "I can sense my quarry's trail, though it may also be his way of luring me. Either way, we will have to go in. And watch yourselves. The place is filled with illusions." She knew, though, that even when aware of the spell, there was no way to full shield herself from them.
Closing her eyes once more to focus, she picked up the trace again, opened her eyes, and followed it, slowly this time. Though the paths seemed to form naturally from the spaces between rocks, she couldn't help but feel that this, too, was a trick of the eye, and that the way they were on right now began to slope downward, the hills growing closer together as they went on. The hills towered above them, enough for their shadows to shield them from the heat of the sun. Kire paid attention to nothing else but the thread of magic. Above them, the skies grew darker, and a chill settled on the whole hillside.

Kire whirled around, looking at her companions. "Did someone call me?" she asked them, though the confused look in their eyes told her that they hadn't heard anybody speak for a while. Uneasy, she turned around to start back on the trail when she noticed the sky. The gray, overcast heavens changed color, turning dark purple and red. No thunder could be heard, though white lightning streaked between the clouds. "Gods, gods no," she muttered, stepping back. She knew exactly what this was. This was the Black Storm, the very calamity that had literally ripped Amria apart and had taken her parents from her. "No, no, no, no, get out, get out of my head!" she screamed, closing her eyes and sinking to her knees, covering her head.
"Kire, if you don't get up now, you won't be safe!" said the same voice that had called to her earlier. She looked ahead and gasped. Her mother. "Ava," Kire sighed, standing up slowly as her mother beckoned to her with open arms.
"Your father is waiting in the Hall of Command, my dove," Ava, or her shade, called, smiling sweetly at Kire, who felt a hot tear fall down her cheek.
Though her right hand still held onto the sword, her left was raised up, reaching unconsciously for her mother. "Mother, please don't go there. You and father, they won't be safe there, you'll die, half the empire will be lost--!" Kire's words were cut short when Ava fled to the next hill. "No! Come back!" Kire gave chase, forgetting the elves behind her, zigzagging through boulders and crevices, squeezing her way through narrow pathways. When, at last, she caught up to her, she saw Ava standing beside Sacre, her father, inside a cavern. Kire covered her mouth with her hands, shaking her head. "What are you doing here, both of you?" She inched forward, arm extended, but as she neared them their face changed, their smiles turning into frowns. The cavern shook, and grow hotter, redder, as her parents' bodies began to burn. They shrieked in front of her, clawing at their flesh. "Help us, daughter!" Ava cried, reaching out with flaming arms towards her. Kire screamed, shut her eyes, and swung her sword about, slashing at their charred corpses.
Opening her eyes, she found the cavern empty, save for herself and the elves, who were looking at her as if she was contagious. Kire frowned, rubbing her eyes, trying to master her shaking limbs. She was becoming a danger to them. "If you feel this is too dangerous, you can turn back," she said to them after a few deep breaths. Her eyes adjusting to the darkness inside the cave, she noticed a tunnel close to where she was standing. It looked real enough. "Peliah," she said, pointing to the entrance, "you can see that, too, right?"
It was real enough, and a dank air wafted up from it, bringing with it a foul stench. Oh yeah, that's real, alright. Gingerly, Kire stepped through the entrance, feeling around with her feet to make sure she wasn't going to lead them straight to a fall. Though there were barely any lights, she could make out a crude staircase carved into the earth. Faint moans and cries rose up from the bottom end of the staircase, and she braced herself for what lies beyond it. Reaching the bottom step, she thought the stench had grown stronger. A dull red light, perhaps from torches, flickered from round the corner. Kire peeked first, then drew back, mouth agape. Glancing at Peliah, she put a finger to her lips. There were people, and some of them were armed.
He was so cold, so cold, Kire thought frantically as they were enveloped in shadow. The cold of the darkness was nothing compared to the deathly chill that had settled on Ruli's fingers. No, please, don't take him away from me! It felt like an eternity when they emerged into the tunnels. "Envy!" she cried out, sinking to her knees, still weakened by Ikegai's shield from earlier. She dragged her sword along with her, her fingers tight around the hilt as if afraid that more enemies would come to tear them apart. Forcing her legs to get up and move, she followed Envy as he carried the limp form of the thief to the infirmary. The world could go to hell at that point for all she cared; she didn't take her eyes off Ruli for a second.
"P-poisons?" Kire almost paled at his question. "No, none, there wasn't--it was just--oh gods, Envy, I did it, it was just this sword, he lost so much blood--!" She let go of the sword now, her hands clutching Ruli's. "Please come back to me!" she yelled at the thief, not caring that she was rambling or if he was conscious to hear it, "please, I--I forbid you to die! I told you not to, I made you promise! I love you, there, I said it, alright? I love you, godsdammit!" She kissed his unmoving hand repeatedly, pressing it against her cheek, willing him to live. "Fuck it, Ruli, you stubborn bastard, come back to me!"
"What in hells is goin' on?" Gavin hollered. He had been in his own quarters when he heard a commotion as all the children scrambled to go back to theirs. Naturally, Gavin went in the opposite direction to find himself staring at elves who looked like they've been through hell, and a familiar voice shouting from the infirmary. His jaw dropped open, seeing a blood-covered Kire and what he first mistook for a corpse that turned out to be the golden-haired thief. "Holy shit!" He hadn't seen Kire so distraught, but he knew that the last thing Envy needed was her interfering. "C'mon, Kire, let Envy work!" he yelled back, grabbing the woman around the waist and pulling her away.
"Don't--!" But Kire had not the strength, and instead clutched Gavin, crying into his shoulder. He dragged her back, but Kire had broken away again and was about to step forward when she collapsed against Gavin, her legs wobbling. It was happening again: her vision was starting to blur, and she began to see two different things: the tunnels, with Envy, Ruli, Gavin, the infirmary, and Amria, the gardens outside the palace. No, it's impossible, I'm not even dying! What's happening? She stared at her hand and saw that she was beginning to fade. Reaching for a shocked Gavin, her hands were losing tangibility.
The ring was taking her back, and she realized with a sudden horror that this must be her punishment for killing Ikegai rather than bringing him back alive. "Gavin!" she said, fumbling for her sword while she still can and thrusting the hilt at him, taking his hand and closing his fingers around it. "Tell him I'm coming back for that--for him! Please tell him I'm coming back, and tell him that I love--!"
A flash of blue light, and Kire was gone, leaving Gavin wide-eyed with shock, Kire's sword in his fist.
Above the gardens of the palace of the empress, the portal opened several feet above the ground, dropping her onto the orchard. Guards shouted in alarm, realizing she had returned, and barked at attendants to bring medics. Kire groaned from the pain of the fall, then sat straight up, seeing where she was. "Oh no, no, no!" She thrust out her ring arm. "Come on, open a portal, dammit!" Please! The ring didn't so much as make a spark. Soon, Daryll came running towards the gardens, and saw the guards restraining his cousin, blood and dirt staining her hair, her face, her armor, with no sword on her side, screaming a word he was unfamiliar with. Or perhaps it was a name.
