It didn't used to take so long to recover. When I was younger I was told a kiss would make it all better. These days, by that logic, I'd need to be a porn star.

Might not have internet tonight. Travelling into an area I don't know well. My wifi hub may not have cell towers to use. Should move by the next day though.

Work is a little nuts. Long days, little time off. Going to be a little slow on replies. Bear with me.

Bio

Well, I USED to have a bio. Site keeps changing and it goes poof each time.

Rules
I prefer forum based rather than PM.

Advanced (some casual for conversations). Give me something to respond to.

Daily posting - not interested in constant excuses. Check your subscriptions. Commit a little. Yes, I understand RL. But rarely more than a day goes by without a post unless I waited to long for yours.

I am not a grammar or spelling Nazi. I do, however, prefer third person, past tense as most books are written.

Plots. I prefer to have a plot, a goal. It can evolve over time. But a good RP needs one.

I detest most fandoms.
I tend to avoid darker scenarios. Real life has enough of that.
I enjoy romances. Usually they should not be the entire focus of the RP. I do, however, have some that romance is the whole point, such as arranged marriages.
I love sci fi.

I do not have time to do ALL these RP’s. One.

Some ideas:
I love anachronisms. Things and people out of their time or place. So things like time travel, cryogenic suspension and the like are a good start.

World building. I don’t mean literally building a planet. And I prefer to focus on one character. But a post apocalypse where the characters are trying to restart civilization is good. Being marooned for various reasons is good. One scenario is on an island where the economy has all but crashed and everyone is struggling. Then new money - a casino - comes in to buy everyone out for a meager sum, but better than nothing. Half the town is fighting to preserve their culture. Half is desperate enough to bail. But the casino wants it all and needs a 100% response.

Life or World changing events. I had a lottery winner RP. Another is the arrival of aliens. One scenario I liked was the Wet Firecracker War in which WWIII was a failure as every nuke failed to actually blow up. The nukes just looks like giant flares. However, the reason was the mystery. Another scenario had a bunch of kids gathered each as the potential heir to a vast fortune. This one was set about 20 years from now if I remember right.

This summer wasn’t going to end like any other summer at Dugway Proving Grounds. In 2012 the population had been about 1400, but events around the world in 2015 expanded operations to nearly 6000 by 2019, plus dependents. Although technically an Army Post, it is used by multiple commands and hosts a number of civilian personnel on a semi-permanent basis.

Originally this base was used for biological and chemical warfare research. Its location is about as remote as one could possibly get. In 2015 the Dugway's official mission was to test US and Allied biological and chemical weapon defense systems in a secure and isolated environment. DPG also served as a facility for US Army Reserve and US National Guard maneuver training, and US Air Force flight tests–mostly from nearby Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield. DPG was controlled by the United States Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC). The area had also been used by Army special forces for training in preparation for deployments to the War in Afghanistan.

Today in 2019 the conspiracy theories suggest that it is the “new Area 51.” Of course, noone in their right mind really believes all that - except maybe kids. You know, the ones with all that imagination. The more plausible theories are that biowarfare research has continued in response to outbreaks of Ebola and other deadly viruses. another suggestion is that research is ongoing for the creation of super soldiers through genetic manipulation. But that doesn’t explain all the other disciplines being brought in.

Security on the base is about as tight as it gets. Though perhaps not as extreme as the Manhattan Project, it is a known fact that absolutely no non US citizens are allowed on base. Perimeter security is sensitive enough to detect a rabbit hopping around too close to the fence.

Blah, blah, blah … Come on, you get the idea. Feel free to look at the official site for DPG. Bear in mind that it would be 5 years out of date in this RP. Schools operate late August through late May. While construction has expended the base facilities to some degree, most of the housing is temporary, of the FEMA variety. It isn’t as though they are worried about storms. Permanent housing goes to the military first. (Suck it up civilians or enjoy the commute.)

The Story
Do you remember all that alien conspiracy stuff I mentioned earlier? I bet you didn’t believe me. Well, neither did a bunch of kids in the middle of the Summer of 2019. But in mid July the base went through a lockdown starting at 1735 MST 12 Jul 2019. Soldiers were out all through the night with blinding lights and strange sensors. The official story came out later - a repeat of an event back in 2015 when a vial of nerve agent went missing and they had a lockdown. This time the fear was that a contagion had been released. But they assured everyone that there had, in fact, been no leak. The search had been a precaution.

That was the story anyways.

The real story? The scare was a cover to move something onto the base and into the mountain - something really big. It was, of course, covered with tarps. Noone was talking about it. But ever since that security has been … odd. Patrols have been stepped up. The guards have been more attentive than usual. That strange something was not of this world. It was an alien spaceship. (More specifically a lifeboat.)

Full Name: Duncan Moran
Gender: Male
Age: 15 (16 in Sept)
Grade: 11
Starting the 11th Grade, but he has been heavily homeschooled. He’s completed High School requirements. Plus he has most of college level chemistry, physics and math completed. However, both his parents and maternal Grandparents agree he needs to grow up with kids his own age. That means mainstream school. He doesn’t exactly agree, but he’s he’s really too young for a job.

Appearance
Duncan has absolutely NO sense of fashion. He looks like his mother dressed him. His hair is normally either cut off like he is in Basic Training, or a bowl haircut that makes him look like Moe. (He opts for the former if he has a choice.) His clothing usually consists of jeans, a T shirt (preferably some dark color), and tennis shoes. Much of this is hand me downs, flea market or yard sale specials or worse (if you can imagine worse. Trust me; there is.)

He is cute enough for a 15 year old. He’s a geek, but he is in superb shape, and likely stronger than boys a couple years older. He stands 5’3” tall, weighing in at 120 lbs.

Personality
Duncan is extremely intelligent, reading well over 1000 wpm doing SRA’s (Strategic Reading Assignments) by age 12. He gets bored easily, especially in school as he finds other students … slow. But he keeps silent about it - probably he one redeeming quality in this area. He usually ends up in trouble for reading some sci fi book - if he can find one he hasn’t read at the Library. He is also more than happy to help any other student. He doesn’t even have to like or dislike them.

He works as a TA (in courses taught to student of his age) and Library Aide at the High School.

Duncan loves all hard science (ie not the squishy ones - Biology? Bleh!) He refused to take it EVER. He is a natural mathlete. He is an expert at chess, but is utterly bored by it. Computers? Not so much his thing. Nor anything electronic or mechanical. Have HIM try to fix anything and you are asking for disaster. He does NOT have the car bug either, though he needs to get his first car soon.

Sports: He loves Soccer and ALWAYS has a soccer ball either with him or in his locker. He also loves swimming and rock climbing. He’s a natural at football. He HATES baseball - even though he is great at it. While he has played some of the other sports, soccer is the only one he can be easily tempted to play - if he cares to ask his father. Despite his abilities, he will probably always be picked last for team sports. He just doesn’t LOOK like a jock.

Habits:
In Gym Class, he will NEVER play Skins. Ever.

Duncan spends all his time in school or at home doing chores. But he will take any excuse from the school not to go home. He has no friends. He is simply awkward in social situations. (Maybe his Grandparents were right?) And girls? Oh dear God. There’s only one thing he’s more afraid of than his Father - girls.

He does NOT do social media. (Yes, he has a full office computer at home and a state of the art laptop.)

He has no cell phone.

Skills, Hobbies
Besides the skills his studies in science and math, he has branched out a little into music. One of his aunt was a music teacher. And an uncle teaches music at the University of San Diego. Duncan learned the piano from his aunt first. He started guitar about 2 years ago and plays fairly well.

Background
Duncan biological father was US Navy. So he was born into the military from the start. As an infant he was sickly, and at age 3 and a half he was dying in the hospital of spinal meningitis when his father abandoned them.

At Age 5 his mother met his Stepfather, at the time a USAF Staff Sergeant (E-5) in military transportation and they were shortly married. Overnight he went from being an only child to having an older brother and sister to pick on him. His whole step family resented him. If his older brother did something wrong, guess who got blamed. They were Deep South Southern Baptists preaching hellfire and damnation and he was the spawn of Satan - as his mother was Catholic.

He soon learned that his stepfather had other flaws. He was prejudiced and abusive. Hardly a day goes by that Duncan doesn’t get beaten. So he blesses the days when his father is away on TDY’s. Of course, there is always a list of chores. His brother used to take off some of the heat. But with him gone, his stepfather takes it all out on Duncan. And it doesn’t help that his Father thinks science is a waste of time. (His mother is the only shield he has from that issue.)

Duncan developed his hatred of Baseball when his stepfather made his brother hold his feet to the ground while he threw the ball hard at Duncan. Duncan was 7 at the time and had never held a baseball before.

Thus far Duncan has spent 6 months at Nellis (age 6), 2 years at Eglin (age 7-8), 2 years at Incirlik, Turkey (age 9-11), 3.5 years at Kirkland (age 12-15).

Duncan’s father is now an E-8 SMSgt, and the senior enlisted man in charge of military air transport. He also serves as the first Sergeant for USAF enlisted personnel. On the side he runs the base Rod and Gun Club.

Enter our Aliens
Our aliens had already realized that Earth was a backwater, pre-starflight world filled with primitive barbarian bipeds - mammals evolved from monkeys. The monkeys actually look kind of tasty to some of them. They were a filthy species that had polluted its planet almost the point of rendering it uninhabitable. Some aliens were already debating the eradication of the parasitic humans and restoring the planet to a healthy status. However, as the movement toward ‘green technologies’ was gaining ground, that decision had been forestalled.

Anyways, the alien crew realized that their arrival had been detected. And, if detected they would likely be locked away and subjected to unspeakable torture. It wouldn’t be the first time, and as luck would have it, they had the misfortune to land far too close to an earlier crash site of an unsanctioned scouting expedition. Upon arrival the aliens evacuated their vessel - and none too soon.

From a distance all the alien crew could do was watch as their only way home was loaded onto huge alien vehicle and carted off. Cut off from their people, and now hunted by human authorities, the aliens could only do one thing:

Get their lifepod back.

Characters
Your characters will be teenagers, mostly military brats. No, you may not run an alien. Please do not ask.
Bump
Duncan looked at Aliyah with an odd expression for a moment after she kissed him. He was becoming more and more comfortable with public displays of affection. Masumi and Marcia seemed to be the presences making him uncomfortable now. And that was probably because they now worked for him. But as with all things Duncan seemed to adapt quickly. And to their credit neither butler gave any indication of a reaction.

Marcia seemed to study Aliyah when she thought the younger woman wasn’t watching. And that was likely because she could see what might very well be happening. Duncan didn’t treat Aliyah like a date, and barely like a girlfriend. He treated her more like a wife. And that fact didn’t escape Marcia at all. She realized she might be looking at a future co-employer. And as such, needed to be treated as such.

Masumi seemed more concerned about Gary. If Duncan was going to get an RV, then something was going to have to be done about sleeping arrangements. That particular fact was clearly what vexed Duncan to no end. Most RV’s have a main bedroom and a sleeper sofa. The sleeper might be a queen sized, but it would have to be shared. Either that or Duncan would have to get a family RV and most of those weren’t as nice. Only a custom RV would serve his purposes.

“Mind in the gutter,” Duncan was explaining with a sheepish grin. Then he examined his arms. “Yeah, you wouldn’t know it, but I am actually part Cherokee. Only 1/16th. It showed slightly more in my mother. But the benefit is that I don’t sunburn easily. I do burn though. Yes, suntan lotion … and aloe.” He grinned broader as he examined Aliyah back and kneaded her shoulders. “I suppose SOMEone will have to put the lotion on…” he laughed.

“Not a problem,” Gary needled.

Duncan took the bait. “No no .. can’t shirk my duty.”

++++++++++

Duncan had a surprise for Aliyah. He decided to take him to his high school to meet one of his teachers - specifically an English teacher. What he failed to mention was that his Creative Writing teacher had been Kassandra Soleil, a mystery novel author who had put out over a dozen best sellers. She looked like she might be Romani or Persian. It was really hard to tell. But the rumor was that she didn’t know her real name. She had been a child born of human trafficking and never knew her parents. Kassandra Soleil was a name she made up and eventually made her legal name.

She was also known to have worked with NYPD some years ago as a ‘psychic.’ She insisted that it was mentalism and that there was no such thing as magic. But even Duncan found her abilities amazing. He described the woman as ‘way smarter than him.’

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
a tale of a fateful trip,
that started from this tropic port,
aboard this tiny ship.

That’s how the Gilligan’s Island song starts. In our case the ship isn’t so tiny. It is a 160 foot luxury yacht with room for about twice the crew and passengers. And it wouldn’t set sail without the charter being paid for. (I want at least 5 passengers. The remaining passage could be paid for be a wealthy passenger to make sure the cruise wasn’t cancelled.) Not long as the cruise reaches the deep sea, a storm crops up out of nowhere, a storm unlike any the Captain has ever seen.

The cruise begins in 2029 - about 10 years from now. It ends in 1927, not long before the end of the Roaring 20’s. Of course, at first the survivors won’t understand why they can’t get even satellite TV, or their sat cell phones can’t get a signal or why GPS won’t work. (Hint: there are no manmade satellites yet in 1927 or for that matter, digital technology.) There is no rescue forthcoming, not even a search.

Characters
I am a fan of characters being written up as if for a TV drama. There should be a decent pic and description. The Personality and Background should give readers a feel for the character. Also, feel free to describe their personal belongings. The yacht was beached; it didn’t sink. No pets. The First Mate has a few - which includes a dog and some other critters. Most are very rare.

I plan to do the Captain and First Mate. They are a husband and wife. They are NOT a typical crew. The Captain doesn’t really know a lot about boats. (The yacht belongs to his wife. SHE was sailing in races as a child and has been around both Capes more than once. But she lets her husband play Captain. He’s actually a scientist and sci fi writer.) But I will get to that later. Let’s concentrate on you guys. You recall the stereotypes in the TV show? Well, I am not going to restrict us to those, but they are the basic idea.
