I tried Mopani wood once. It took sooooooooooo long. Like days of boiling, scrubbing, and soaking, to remove the tannins

I'm preparing Malaysian "driftwood" (it looks/acts more like bogwood to me) for a new 10gal Betta aquarium. I've been boiling it for about four hours now. I'm turning off the burner, but I'm leaving it in the hot water overnight.

Why might I do this? To get rid of tannins that would stain the water. They make it look brown, Kinda like the Amazon Blackwater look. It also removes dirt and kills bacteria and any other parasite.

Why am I telling you? It's incredibly boring.

Sonitus was silent all night. That said, he was a very light sleeper. Numerous times he would wake up, expecting to be attacked. After finding out it was nothing every time, he would then go to sleep again just as quickly.

[Next Day]

Waking up was a dull affair. He mostly kept to himself during the whole ordeal. Even while they began their training he took care to not overexert himself. The result being he fell significantly behind the others, forcing them to wait a bit to catch up. Not long enough to be a bother, but still notably long.
