Varya Chandrar

Varya followed closely behind Veronica then hid in the corner opposite of her. He could hear two footsteps approaching, one much heavier than the other. Veronica said that they were a mage and a bear, the latter presumably not Cedar. Varya planned on using the hilts of his butterfly swords to knock out the red head by beating her in the back of her head. If there was a chance he didn't have to take her life, might as well take it, if for no other reason than that it was a change of pace. Maybe if he she was knocked out cold Veronica wouldn't kill her, but he wouldn't stop V if she was dead set on it.

Varya got to his knees, placed his hands on the ground, tucked in his chin and arced his back upwards, entering into Cat pose, before channeling the mana to invoke the power of the Cat (Cat's Grace activated). His eyes briefly turned cat like before he sprang up to his front heels, feeling the nimbleness of the cat and drawing his butterfly swords. He then shrouded himself in a veil of illusion (Invisibility activated). Seconds later Veronica dashed forth, a black blur, and Varya zoomed past the corner, boosted by his inhuman speed. The goal was to maximize speed and strike the witch before she had the chance to react. Varya would use Veronica as a distraction so he could circle behind the witch to deliver the knock-out blow. Adrenaline and magic coursed through his veins, propelling him forward. Soon the fury of battle would take him, and he would show both ally and enemy alike what he was capable of!

After seeing the guards go down, Varya sheathes his butterfly swords. "I came back because there are metal bars barring the way downstairs." He said in his usual monotone. He turned to the cloaked man. "Thank you." He rifled through the pockets of the incapacitated guards, finding a key on the bigger one. He then extended his hand to give the key to Veronica. Afterwards he gave a small bow to Veronica, placing his other hand on his chest. "Awaiting your command." Varya loved having someone to look up to for directions, for he was uncomfortable taking the initiative himself if it could be avoided. He usually found it easier to do whatever someone else said, especially when they were competent like the likes of Veronica.

Varya slowly inched the door open and slid inside, closing the door behind him and dropping his invisibility and rubbing soap on the back of his ears. He carefully made his way down the nearby stairs that led to a corridor with metal bars at the end. Oh great, one of those doofuses must have the key. He made his way back up the stairs to the previous door. He eavesdropped on the lurid conversations of the guards, when all of a sudden there was silence. He slowly opened up the door and peeked out to see what had happened, when he noticed Solomon is now behind the guards attempting to smother them. Varya ran to Solomon and Veronica, drawing his swords and preparing to bonk the guards on the head with the hilts should they manage to escape the cloaked man's grasps.

When Veronica walked around the corner, Varya brandished his butterfly swords and casted his spell of Invisibility on himself, shrouding him in a veil of illusion (Invisibility activated). Varya ran around the corner, using Veronica's presence as a distraction so that he could circle around and knock out one or both of the guards. However, to his surprise the guards did not attack immediately, though still on edge. He couldn't tell if the guards were dense or had a serious ace up their sleeves considering how unphased they were by Veronica brandishing a scythe. He elected to make the gamble that it was the former, hoping between Veronica and Solomon they could handle it while he snuck his way to the door in the bad. Deciding to take advantage of their seeming laxity, Varya switched gears and reduced his speed to a brisk space, careful not to step on any puddles, his footsteps silenced by his measured steps and masked by his magic. As he walked across the room, he nostrils were assaulted by the heavy stench of chemicals, and more disturbingly blood. This was not a good sign, he was hoping based on Jazdia and Veronica's findings that Cedar was still alive.

Thankfully Veronica's plan to distract the guards worked, albeit not in the way she had expected. The mooks had their attention focused on her, allowing Varya to sneak around and past them. Once Varya reached the door he sheathed his blades and took out his precious bar of soap. He began to lather up the door hedges in the cleansing substance in order to reduce the creaking of the door once it was opened. After this was done Varya would look through the keyhole of the door if it had one to see what was on the other side, otherwise he would place his long ear against the door to listen.

After the bears lumbered over the wood wall, Varya ran up the wall, flipping at the top and running down the otherside. Once he touched the ground he again took of his shoes, it would be rude to wear them inside someone's house after all. Varya then slowly and silently walked across the grass until he reached Veronica. Hugging the wall next to her, Varya waited for further orders whilst he pressed his ear to the wall. It sounded like the assault team was facing more fierce resistance, though this also meant weakening the enemy's flanks.

Varya was unsettled to know that Yvonne was capable of such unnatural brutality. Varya was impressed with the speed and effortless movement of Veronica running and scaling the walls. When Veronica gave the command he descended in steps down the stone wall and ran low to the ground with arms stretched behind him, skimmimg the grass towards the wood wall. When he reached it he put his ears against the wall to listen to the otherside, struggling somewhat to focus due to the cacophony of battle. When Veronica crossed over the wall, Varya elected to stay put to provide a lookout for the bear sisters as they climbed the second wall and guard the rear advance. Varya lost sight of Solomon, though considering Veronica said nothing about it he presumed that tbe cloaked man was using some form of subtle magics or techniques to get through. This Solomon was truly talented. It was nice to be in such professional and capable company for a change. Varya put back on his shoes so that when it came time for him to run up the wall he could so without worrying about splinters.

Varya ran swiftly, following Veronica as they made their to the western stone wall. She used a grapling hook to effortlessly scale the wall. She asked how we took to scaling walls. "I do well enough." Varya had experience jumping, tumbling, and performing acrobatic stunts, as well as climbing walls and rooftops to gather information for his employers, this wall would not be too much trouble. That being said, the bears started making their way up the wall, tearing chunks of plaster as they go. He decided to let the sisters finish scaling the walls so he could take advantage of the openings. Work smarter, not harder.

Varya then heard a massive boom originating from the south, followed by the chaos of battle. No doubt Jazdia's team. After the bears lumbered over the wall, he jumped from gap to gap like a frog, reaching the top in a matter of seconds. Varya clung to the top, looking down and around for signs of guards. Then a horrible scream rang from the direction of the battle, and it sent a shiver down Varya's spine. Such cruelty, such malevolent intent. He did NOT want to go anywhere that inhuman noise. He looked at Veronica and whispered: "What the hell is that!?" After that he would keep his eyes and ears out for any signs of life, keeping his head down as he clung to the outside of the wall, occasionally peeking over to check.

Varya didn't like attacking during the dark of night, save for the most extraordinary of circumstances. He thought it was cowardly and underhanded to attack the enemy while they slept. Ideally all fighting would start at sun rise and and end at sun set, but these were not ideal circumstances. Varya had conducted night attacks before at the behest of former employers, much to his chagrin. Now was not the time to complain or debate the proper way to wage war, not with Cedar's life on the line and time being of the essence. While he can only hope this won't be a trend, he knew sometimes concessions had to be made, and this was one such occasion.

Varya donned his usual gear, Crescent Bow, his war-hammer and shield, his butterfly swords, and his gambeson padded armor. He decided to leave behind his chain mail, even though he could apply leather straps to minimize their rustling, speed and subtlety were needed more than anything, and nothing could be left to chance. He tucked his shoes into his belt, electing to walk barefoot, feeling the earth beneath him. If he was to perish in battle, he wanted to be touching the Earth Mother. Upon arriving just outside the manor proper, Varya sat in a corner, cast his Earthing spell and quietly prayed to The Great Spirit. "Dear Merciful Lord, please protect Cedar and deliver him from his torment. Protect and guide Thernous as he goes forth to deliver peace across the land. Give us the strength to fight on the side of righteousness. Blessed be your Holy Name, and Thy Will be Done." With his prayers done he looked towards Jazdia and Veronica for the plan.

Then Evan raised his hand and introduced himself to everyone. "Hello. I am Evan." Again with the odd timing, but there was something endearing about this dorky human man and his earnest attempt to make a statement. Varya smiled ever so slightly, taking humor as a reprieve from a very tense atmosphere, and spoke in a more cordial and warmer tone than he had shown before. "Hello Evan, I am Varya Chandrar of Varenheim."

Jazdia and Vernoica returned, and Jazdia spoke. "Alright, Veronica here will lead the infiltration team," It was refreshing to know there was a plan and an established chain of command, as Varya loved order. Jazdia then turned to address him specifically. "Varya, that team will need a reliable frontline, and ranger so you go with her. You will also need Doc Solomon and his expertise for this rescue mission. The Twins, you two are coming with them as well. Help them find your brother." She then gave him unusual arrows that pulsed with power.
"Use them to defeat any insurmountable obstacle. Or to give your enemy a nasty death if you feel so inclined." She then Winked. "Or consult with your team before use. These are strategic ammunitions, so it is wise to use them sparingly." Varya felt honored that the elvish warrior Jazdia entrusted Varya with such important tasks and weaponry, and he also felt the weight of expectation and responsibility weigh heavy upon him. He clutched the arrows tightly, placing them in his quiver with care. Varya then gave a deep bow of reverence and respect to Jazdia. "I will not fail you Lady Jazdia. I will rescue Cedar, even should it come at the cost of my own life."

Varya was as excited as he was nervous, the eve of battle excited his nerves even as he breathed deeply to calm them. Now was his chance to show his entourage, and by extent the King what he was made of, and to do good for others.

Varya spoke up. "I wish to join the infiltration team. I know how to minimize my presence and move silently. Also, I think we should keep a close eye on the underground entrance for signs of reinforcments when the fighting starts, that way we know when to make our move."

Varya was impressed that Veronica said that they needed no sleep, that is a power as useful as it is dangerous. His earthing spell significantly reduced the amount of sleep he needed, useful for long night watches, but to go without sleep entirely was something beyond his comprehension. He struggled to maintain his sanity during such times, what strain on the psyche would one have staying awake 24 hours? He shuddered to think about it and decided it was not something worth pondering for long. Either way, it spoke volumes of Veronica's potential for magic manipulation and stamina.

As the conversation carried one, Varya asked a question to everyone who could hear, not knowing who to address in particular. "Who is this Jonas Delving and what does he look like? Considering we are to capture him alive, I don't want to kill him by accident."

Evan then shed some of his clothing and turned white, enveloping himself in ice and shedding it like a cocoon, revealing a sparkling veil that made him look like a glittering butterfly. It was beautiful and mesmerizing. He then spoke, barely audible. "What is it like to kill another person?" What an odd question to ask, and so out of the blue. Still, this man of white had fascinated Varya, and he found it only proper to answer his question. Varya spoke in a monotone voice. "That depends. I take great joy in killing evil and wicked people, I feel like I've made the world a better place. I don't like killing people who aren't evil or who have not wronged me. It's such a needless waste of life, and I feel great sadness within me when I witness such deaths."

Varya was liking that plans were starting to coalesce, though nothing would be finalized until they got the lay of the land which they were to attack. Varya was eager to prove himself on the battlefield, and to see what everyone else could do as well when swords were drawn and fell deeds were to be done.
