Race: Vaalkans

Physiology: To the planet Balkas science bequeathed Vaalkans, former beasts of burden for a long deceased civilization. Thanks to heavy augmentations by their progenitors, a typical Vaalkan’s appearance invokes demonic imagery. From scaled protrusions to bestial appendages, their varying forms afford them the luxury of a visual distinctiveness, not owned by many. Even within this diversity, however; there are commonalties amongst the Vaalkan people. On average Vaalkan males stand mightily at 7”0, alongside Vaalkan females. Both likewise possess a muscular and durable frame capable of resisting extreme cold or heat(But not fire mind you), and can easily lift their own body weight(200). They are also largely intelligent, as they were designed to operate their creator’s instruments.

Visuals: Males, Females

(Note: These are two of the more humanoid examples of Vaalkan, but in general they tend to greatly fluctuate in appearance.)

Society: Liberated from their role as “laborers”, Vaalkans pursue lifestyles as varied as themselves. Naturally most reside on planet Balkas, where they enjoy the bounty left behind by their parent species. Housed in colossal structures armed with defense grids, the people of Balkas lead lives reflective of humans with a similar familial structure. Unlike humans they breed fairly slowly, leading them to dedicate much of their efforts to the perpetuation of their species. To this end, they are hesitant towards conflicts unless they see a benefit, explaining why they fight under the coalition’s banner. Their caution should never be mistaken for cowardice, as they will happily fall upon the enemies’ sword in defense of a trusted ally. They are also surprisingly open and welcoming people, who will happily shelter “pariahs” such as the Kraxian.

Army: A cautious and slightly paranoid people, the Vaalkan military exist primarily for the purposes of defense. Most soldiers male and female are drafted into service at the age of 20. Recruits are assigned to fields based on their desired role; otherwise one is assigned to them. Authorities and ranking officers are chosen from the grunts if said underlings prove themselves worthy. In recent times the drafting policy has been relaxed do to political backlash from its citizens. Instead recruitment is offered with the promise of financial aid for the newcomers’ family.

Armada & Weaponry: Despite the technological wonders they’ve been “given”, Vaalkan fleets are meager in their numbers. Often times Vaalkan armadas will consist of one massive flagship flanked by twin dreadnoughts and surrounded by countless Aegis. Intimidation is the favored tactic of Vaalkan commanders, not out of arrogance, but as a means to detour combat. Of course these tactics are only used in response to threats to the Vaalkan home world.

Standard Vaalkan Aegis

Whilst possessed by a powerful desire to conserve their life, they won’t hesitate to end yours. The Vaalkan armada is predictably smaller than most, but overwhelms its opponents with superior weaponry. One of their elder races’ “gifts” was specialized systems that the Vaalkans have since adapted to their own Aegides. The system in question, at least as now functions for Aegis; redistributes magical energy throughout its form thanks in part to special plating, lessening the damage they take, but not negating it.

Religion: Products of genetic engineering, Vaalkans lack “faith” in a higher power. Instead they revere their elderly, seeing them as their forefathers who brought them into such a glorious era.

Coalition: Driven by adventure, spacefaring Vaalkans eventually found their way into the coalition. Respected by their peers and compliant with the wishes of the church, Vaalkans are considered a model race. They are currently in their fortieth year of service to the Coalition. In spite of their race’s relatively small population the Vaalkan are represented by a single Vaalkan female.

Home World: Planet Balkas is a temperate planet flirting with the outskirts of sector 7. It possesses a single sun and moon both of, which rise and fall with the passing of each day. Geographically speaking, Balkas is made up of several land masses divided by oceans and dotted with a network of cities and communities. Vegetation is plentiful as are the vast animals that make up the world’s wildlife.

I tend to prefer aliens that are in fact alien.

If you have any suggestions for a race don't hesitate to submit them. I shall be submitting my own.

And Ok.
I look forward to trying out my genetically altered mecha technician.

Actually, I just badgered Saber to post this one up. But feel free to thank your local cultist anyway,

Hopefully Saber doesn't mind if I assuage your concerns in their stead. You are allowed to make your own species, so long as you provide an explanation of them. You can expect some diversity of of races.
I am interested in applying as an burdened i suppose.
