Akina raised her eyebrows and took the phone from Shinobu.
"Uh, yeah?"
"You're Akina?", Melissa asked via phone.
"Uh, yeah", Akina repeated.
"Shinobu told me, you'd be interested in joining the school newspaper? Why would you join so late? I mean, this school year has already started for two months now. Aren't you supposed to already be in a club?", Melissa inquired suspecting.
"Ah, well... it's...complicated. I... uh... had my emergence last week... and I can't take part in my old club anymore. Sports, you know...", Akina explained awkwardly while twiddling with her hair.
A longer silence from the other end just made Akina more insecure, although she didn't really want to feel that way.
"Oh..." Another batch of silence on the line. "I'm sorry.", Melissa continued. "It makes sense, though."
The person on the other end coughed a bit. "Anyway, I surely need more people in the club, so feel free to come by as soon as you can so I can evaluate you skills and everything. You know, find out where you belong and everything. Don't worry, I'm not gonna pick on you just because you're a newly minted girl."
Akina could hear the reassuring smile coming from Melissa through the phone which made her smile as well.
"Alright, I'll see you as soon as I'm done here!", Akina exclaimed excitedly and a little bubbly as well as she handed back the phone to Shinobu.
"Uh, yeah?"
"You're Akina?", Melissa asked via phone.
"Uh, yeah", Akina repeated.

"Just... just gimme a mirror, okay?" The girl in the hospital bed pouted calling out to the nurse who promptly vanished out the door and left the girl on her own for a while. She took the time to look over her new body, of course unable to ignore the small bumps on her chest covered by a simple white bra. A few paces down her smooth body, white panties covered a fleshy hill and behind it, nothing remained of her old, male organs. Instead, properly working female ones replaced them.
Soon the nurse came back with a full body mirror drawn behind her. "Here you go. Do you need help getting up?"
The girl waved her off. "No, I'm okay."
Carefully, she stood up, a little bit wobbly on her feet, and swayed to the mirror. "Woah, walking feels a little weird...", she muttered. "Bigger hips and smaller shoulders do that for you.", the doctor, who just had entered the room, explained. A few seconds and a girly huff later, she stood in front of the mirror staring at her figure in underwear. "Holy crap... she's cute...I mean, I'm cute... not sexy, more cute...", she uttered.
"I've talked with your mother and cleared some formalities. For one, we chose a more fitting name for you, to which you just have to agree to, as well as handled all paperwork with the school. Your new school uniform is right here, too." The doctor continued. Still, the girl fidgeted a bit when she heard the bit about changing her name.
"So, uh, doc, hit me with the... uh... name change... thing"
"Your mother and I have decided, with your approval of course, to just change a single character in your name. We have thought of 'Akina' instead of 'Akito'. Shouldn't be too big of a change, is it?"
A blush formed on her cheeks.
"It's uhh... I like it... It's okay.", the newly minted Akina muttered.
"Alright then, it's settled", the doc smiled and then put a package of clothing on the bed. "That's your school uniform, today's Friday, you'll be expected back in school on Monday. Don't worry, most of the time, the weekend should be enough to get used to how your new body works. After you get released, you should visit me once every week until I say otherwise. Now, we'll both leave and let you put on the uniform."
Both the doctor and the nurse left the room and closed the door leaving Akina all to herself.
Somehow, she had no trouble putting the new uniform on, although it contained a plaid skirt. Her mom also included a pair of yellow ribbons with whom she made her hair into two long pigtails. "This is gonna take some time getting used to..."
A couple of days later, Akina still hadn't properly adjusted to her body, although her mom had taken her out for clothes shopping and taught her a lot of things concerning hygiene and the secrets of a girl's body. She noticed, though that she won't be able to participate in the sports club she had been as a boy, since her body didn't have the strength to do heavy physical activities such as certain types of sport, so she'd have to choose another extracurricular activity.
Monday arrived way too quickly for Akina. To be honest, she was kind of scared what her classmates would say, think and otherwise, but it was unavoidable, she couldn't pass as a guy anymore at all. Wearing her new uniform, she walked to school all the while being pretty anxious. Meanwhile she did kinda like the breezy feeling around her legs donning that skirt.
Arriving in school the headmaster and her homeroom teacher handled her as if she were made out of porcelain, which really annoyed her, however she kept silent.
A while later, homeroom was about to start and her homeroom teacher decided it to be the right moment to reintroduce Akina to her class.
Waiting in front of the door, she heard her teacher tell the class:
"Guys, we have someone to introduce today, come on in, please!"
The new girl opened the door and entered eliciting murmurs and whispers from her classmates.
"I'm Akina Miyata, please treat me well."
Whispers of multiple "She's cute" emitted from both guys and girls until one asked. "Are you a relative of Akito Miyata, he hasn't been here for a while."
Akina gulped and forced a smile. "I am Akito..., I emerged a week ago..."
