Nico let a small smile pass her face as the girl passed her over a map. The smile quickly faded when she actually looked at the map. Not because it was crumpled and slightly torn, oh no, Nico couldn't care about that. What she was disappointed with was the Disneyland-esque formatting of the map. It was like the campers were children. Granted, a lot of them were children, but that's beside the point.
"Jesus, could they make it anymore kid friendly?" She asked rhetorically under her breath.

She looked at the map for a little bit longer, before glancing upwards in the direction of the cabins. She folded the map up before turning to Shayne.
"I'm Nico, nice to meet you." She spoke. She glanced over at the numbers of girls moving towards the cabin areas. "Hey, uh, I dunno if you're as crazy for this whole camp thing as I am, but I think we should make a move towards the cabins if we don't want to be stuck with the mean girls" She said, sarcasm prevalent in her voice. Then the anxiety kicked in. She was being far too cocksure of herself, especially in her speech, she had only just met this girl and she was already assuming that she didn't want to be at the camp. She began biting one of her nails, painted black before readjusting the grip she held on her bag. "Uh, that is unless you're already rooming with someone of course" Another nervous laugh broke through her lips.

Camp Wachata: Summer Fun For Everyone!

Nico felt her eyes slowing to a close as music played quietly through her old cassette player. Her black hair rested against the window of her father's car. The journey was quiet and slightly awkward to say the least. She'd been vocal about how much she didn't want to go to the camp ever since the idea was brought up and had been giving her parents the silent treatment since leaving the house. Hell, after they proposed the idea of taking the bus with the rest of the campers she almost punched through a window. The idea of getting on a bus full of people who she felt were bound to mock her would have been possibly the worst experience of her young life.

Just as she began to drift off to sleep she felt the car come to a stop and the hand of her father patting her on the shoulder. She turned to him with a scowl to which he replied with an apologetic smile. She knew her parents only meant the best for her, but honestly she would have preferred to be a recluse than be forced to go kayaking or any other of the activities they had at the camp. She gave her father a quick hug and an even quicker goodbye while exiting his car and surveying her surroundings.

It was only when she turned and saw her father had already driven away that she realized she had forgotten the map of the camp. She rubbed her eyes out of frustration, this would mean talking to people. She stood for a moment in thought. All of this pent up angst could do her no good. She'd have to stay here and that was that, she may as well find someone who wasn't half bad and spend her time with them rather than moping around on her own for weeks on end.

She took a step into the camp, scanning the area again for someone who looked as lost as she was. Among the hordes of people walking around in small groups she managed to spot someone else seemingly on their own. She maneuvered through the crowd towards her before speaking.
"Hey, uh, do you have a map? I sort of lost mine." She let out a nervous laugh. Her Ontario accent wasn't obvious, but to the keen ear it could be picked up on.

Name: Nico Laird

Camper or counsellor?: Camper

Age: 18

Appearance: With pale skin and jet black hair coupled with her dark makeup many would mistake Nico as a goth. Her eyes are a piercing blue, contrasting heavily with the darker tones of her appearance. She can often be seen wearing band tees and military boots coupled with an old German military jacket she bought from an online surplus store a year or so ago. Probably the least noticeable but most shocking part of her appearance are the lines of self harm that pattern the tops of her wrists. She keeps these hidden at almost all times, whether it be through a jacket or a wristband.

She's planned to get a tattoo for years but due to disapproval from her parents and a lack of money she has been unable to. As for piercings, that's a different story. Her ears are pierced, although she hardly ever wears earrings. She does however wear her nose piercing, which goes through her right nostril.

Items: a portable cassette player coupled with a few cassettes she's picked up from gigs and music stores over the years.

Personality: Nico could be described as introverted but that's not really doing justice to her actual personality. While she can come off as quiet at first, she can be rather loud after getting to know people or just interacting with new people while people she knows are around. The thing she loves most in the world is music, when listening to a song she loves she can often be seen dancing and singing along, although this is a rare occasion as her music taste is a little more...refined than what is played on the radio. By which I mean she's a hipster.

However, everything is not all bright with Nico. She has a history of self harm stemming from her time in highschool, something which she is less eager to show and talk about. Furthermore, she often drinks heavily when there's a party and it's likely that she'll either be curled up in the feral position almost being sick or just plain asleep by the end of the night.

Also if you call her a goth or an emo or anything similar you are likely to get an eye roll and the cold shoulder.

Short History: Nico was born in Ontario, Canada to possibly the strangest pair of parents someone could ask for. Her father was the former lead guitarist for an unsuccesful punk band turned architect and her mother was a preppy popular girl turned real estate agent. It's fair to say her upbringing was a bit of a war between the cliques, of which her dad obviously won.

However, due to her rather gothic appearance growing up she would often be bullied in highschool. Bullying which started out small and just began growing and growing until it led Nico to self harm. At this point her parents were in despair, it was only when her mother was offered a job in the states that life seemed to turn good again.

To make sure that Nico makes friends and starts to fit in with American culture they sent her to a summer camp, something which Nico is less than happy with.
