Witches have been around for centuries, the earliest of our kind being the famed Witch of Endor - a great woman who had power unlike any other. She was sought out by many for her gifts of necromancy and premonition, they came to her searching for answers and being the kind-hearted women she was she gave them the answers they wanted. But like all throughout history she was misunderstood and labelled as evil - she was captured and murdered.

This mistreatment of Witches would forever continue, between the years 1500 and 1660, up to 80,0000 witches were thought to have been "redeemed" of their satanic duties. In the year 1892 the most famous of witch hunting's occurred - The Salem Witch Trials, 18 women were put to death. Hunts like these spread through out the world - being a witch was no longer safe and our numbers dwindled. Even innocent men and women were at risk for simply being suspected of being a witch could lead to death or imprisonment. Dark days were these. 

It is now the twenty first century and people have become more accepting, however Witches - Real Witches - have still gone on with hiding themselves. Though we wish not to lose our heritage nor do we wish to forget about those born with magic, thus the Raindale Academy System was created for those who were proven to be true born Witches. For now we simply focus on the University, a place where young adults gather to either continue their learning or for those just discovering themselves to grow.

Raindale school system was created shortly after the Salem Witch trials, of course it wasn't as expanded as it was now. It was just a small, run-down building that had only a few souls. However as years and years passed it began to grow and with the hiding of Witches the population slowly began to rise. The University itself was established in 1737, one year after the famed Harvard College was founded. The location of Raindale was decided based on what would blend in better with society, as a school for only Witches they would have to find a way to bypass random applicants. London seemed like the best choice and the main named of "Raindale Academy for Gifted Children" was created for the outside world.

The School System is run by a council of Witches who are quite powerful, they have a large amount of influence within the mortal world and keep watch for children who exhibit "odd" as well as enroll students of Witch families. They teach a wide range of classes from beginners for those who are just learning to advance for those who have been in the system for awhile. The school also allows for a Witch to bring their familiar and if they are yet to contract with one then they will help them obtain one. A Witch cannot perform magic in a stable condition without their familiar.

This year for Raindale is different however, the Headmaster has taken it upon herself to not only accept true born Witches but those who have been converted - the reason for this is so that Witches may slowly integrate themselves better into mortal society and to see if they could be more accepted within the twenty first century. However the Headmaster has also been making some questionable decisions, she has brought back several classes that had been banned due to them much too dangerous. She has also brought back dark traditions that had been abandoned long ago, those that involved sacrifices and too much darkness. The Headmaster pushes the students to their limit. The students have begun to question these choices are right, some have even begun to suspect that something may be very wrong with the Headmaster.

1. This is a mature roleplay so I would like the participants to be at least 18+.
2. I'm looking for posts that are better quality than they are novels - though I would say at least 2-3 paragraphs. Decent grammar is also a must, I don't want posts that are just a bunch of run-on sentences.
3. At the beginning I would only like one character per person, however as it progresses I will probably allow people to create an additional one.
4. Since this is a mature roleplay and it involves....well Witches thing could get a little dark. Things that might trigger some people may pop up so if you are a lot of triggers this might not be the roleplay for you. That being said, IF you have a post that contains a lot of triggers please put a disclaimer at the top for those who still decide to join regardless of this warning.
5. I would like pictures to be realistic. I don't want anything that's super bad quality, nor do I want anything that incredibly emo/scene. I was tasteful pictures. If you struggle with finding something let me know, I always keep a stash.
6. Please do not hesitate to speak in the OOC tab. If you have questions, want to throw out idea's or want to establish a relationship with another character please do so! I want friends, enemies, lovers and everything in between! I want this to be a fun and memorable roleplay.
7. I would ask that there be at least one post a week, however depending on how many people express interest I may bring it to two weeks. I also ask that if you decide that if the roleplay just isn't your fancy anymore that you please let me know, I get sad when people just ditch.
8. Once I see enough people express interest I will put out the character sheet, however for those of you who wish to start planning think about the picture you want, what kind of familiar you'd like and what specialization your witch would have. I will have other information to further help you down below.

Familiar's are a Witches closest companion. They allow the witch to stabilize their magic and a familiar can be used to strength or alter magic. Familiars may also have magic on their own in which to help their owner. Every witch has a familiar or will eventually get one, without one it is almost impossible to do magic correctly. Familiar come in many forms, however they mostly appear as animals or anything that may contain a soul.

There are many possible classes a student can take, however there are limited slots when it comes to the amount the schedule. First years are able to take 3 courses. Second years are able to take 4 courses. Third years are able to take 5 courses. Fourth years are able to take 6 courses. This does not include after school activities - there is no limit to those. One Witch can choose to specialize in any single class.

The Law of Contagion: Once together, always together; or The part of the thing is the whole of the thing: A part of something - like one of someone's possessions or a part of their body - can be used to work magic on it over a distance as though it were physically present. The more intimate the connection the better the link works so a discarded cigarette packet is little use, whilst a favorite shirt or piece of jewelry is better and part of someone is ideal.

The Law of Sympathy: Like attracts like or The image is the thing: Where a contagion isn't possible an image of the target may be used instead. The better the image, the better the link - and even better if the target has personally endorsed the image. Signed photos are really good for this.

The Law of Consent: No injury is done to the willing or this works a lot easier with your co-operation: Depending on who you ask, this is either about the idea that magic is said to have difficulty effecting those who do not believe in it and/or about the idea that it is possible to consciously resist magic and it is far easier to operate a working upon someone who consents to be targeted than someone who doesn't.

Equivalent Exchange: Everything has a price: Magic conserves a given level of value (although one or both "parties" may have different ideas of how something is valued) and a given effect must be paid for with something of at least equal worth. Part of the fun of magic where this applies is making absolutely sure you understand what you are paying before you seal the deal. This also tends to lead to magic that takes the path of least resistance, moving stuff about rather than creating it and what have you.

Reciprocity (aka. "The Law of Triples"): Whatever you do by magic, for good or ill will be repaid to you threefold.

Reversal: Whatever magic does, magic can undo: The idea that anything created by magic can be dispelled or otherwise undone by magic without needing to be physically destroyed. Conversely, this also allows there to be space for anything killed by magic to be brought back under the right conditions...

Distortion: Magic changes nothing … permanently: The idea that magic works by bending the universe out of shape but does not actually change it - sooner or later the world will snap back into its original shape.

The Law of Balance: In the end, everything balances out: Very much related to the laws of equivalent exchange and reciprocity, this idea suggests that magic cannot create or destroy anything, but must move it from place to place (or time to time) - so good fortune now must be repaid by bad fortune later, restoring life to someone means taking it from someone else … that sort of thing.

Backlash: If you don't know where it's pointed, it's pointed at you: Once a magical working is started - especially a working of the harmful variety - it needs to go somewhere. There are likely to be ways and means of safely "earthing" an aborted working (if you can get them right and have the chance to do so), but more worrying still are those workings which miss their target and/or snap back because they are resisted or reflected. Death spells are especially notorious for rebounding on the caster if they fail to kill the target. Such traditions may well develop ways of passing the damage onto someone else - especially the clients of those casters performing this kind of sending for hire or reward. This is the sort of context in which you need to be absolutely sure of your targeting data before you start your attack.
