Okie dokie, a group of thieves it is. :) Anyone who'd like to create one is more then welcome to! I don't think extensive CSes are really required, but pictures and names and brief bios of personalities might be good to help us mix and match them and brainstorm future interactions funsies. And, y'know, for castshot purposes. :P

Credit to Buns for Phantom's picture.

My post mentions the thief as singular, however that's as far as the Empire and public knows about it, thinking the thief is a lone operative. But, well, we'll prove that wrong soon, won't we?

...I think Kathi fell asleep, lols

Hope everyone has a good day.

Aliquam: Tobias’ Gala – 2F Balcony overlooking the Main Hall

The jewels and pearls laced about the chandelier clinked together as it swung from side to side, the figure atop it looking down upon the blind and staggering crowd below. Long blonde hair fell about his shoulders, the man’s face obscured by a black mask adorned with blue gems. The man’s dark outfit was as crisp and smooth a uniform as those of the guests below, as regal and distinguished as any of Tobias’ invitees. He looked down upon them all, his face illuminated starkly from the two glowing sticks far below, and a smile creased the young man’s smooth, delicate features. The smile of success.

Joyous laughter roared from the man’s mouth, enough to throw all of the confused and hapless people below to turn their attention above, to the mysterious stranger who had caused such a great disturbance to the night’s affairs.

“Is everyone alright?” Estelle asked between gritted teeth, one eye gingerly opening a fraction at a time to become used to and accustomed to the new light. She still saw spots, as her hands wavered over Amy and Dylan’s shoulders, hoping that they and Dalia, Rose and Simon were all okay. Nobody looked hurt, although both Dylan and Amy had stumbled over and collapsed to the floor in their drunkenness.

She twisted and turned, craning her neck to look up at the strange man far above, and her face frowned further at the sight. Was this the man behind all of this? Who on Ddaear was he, and what did he want?

Her hands reached to her side, instinctively reaching for the hilt of her sword, to draw it ready for defence, but the clasping of thin air suddenly reminded her that neither she, nor any of her friends had brought their weapons with them, leaving them behind at Dalia’s home. After all, nobody had any reason to bring such dangerous tools to what should have been a peaceful gala…

“Who on Ddaear is that?” Rose vocalised what everyone else thought, and as if on cue, the man above began to shout.

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen!” The blonde began to spoke, the chandelier swinging from side to side in its pendulum arc over and over. “Please, forgive me for the rude interruption! It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance!!”

Below, on the main dance hall’s floor, Biggs and Wedge simultaneously looked up as well. Wedge’s eyes narrowed, and his head turned to the side, as if the man above, distant as he was, seemed somewhat familiar to him. Biggs too shared the same expression.

“Hey, Biggs… doesn’t that guy look familiar…?”

“Hmm… I think you’re right, Wedge. I’m sure I’ve seen him before, but where…?”

And then in unison, both of the Artar Empire soldiers’ jaws dropped and their eyes widened in incredulous realisation of who the man was. Indeed, a lot came racing back to the bumbling duo, as the masked stranger’s arrival suddenly sparked the memory of why it was they had even travelled from the capital to Aliquam in the first place! Days ago they had been given orders from their commanders after receiving a strange note… from a renowned thief… a thief whom announced his intentions to rob and steal before committing the act… a thief whom had sent word that they would do the same to Aliquam’s Academy for the Arts… and that Biggs and Wedge’s duty was to notify the people here, in particular their commander in question’s children, Rose and Angél de Cevantés, honorary members of said academy! They had gotten distracted first by their festival, and then by Tobias’ gala, but now…!

“We… we need to catch him, Wedge!” Biggs shouted to his partner, and the stoutly man nodded. As everyone else continued to look up and stare, the two soldiers began racing for the stairs, trying their best to hopefully climb up and catch him before the man could get away.

For the thief had a terrible reputation. Despite always announcing his intentions to steal in advance… even revealing where, what and when such a bold display of thievery would take place… no matter what precautions or measures of security were taken, they had never been apprehended! Before, these announcements always came through letters, marked by a strange seal. This time, however, was the first time the thief would make such a bold entrance as this…!

The man laughed again, and grinned despite the two soldiers desperately racing up. He continued to speak, despite them or the crowd’s murmured gasps and in talking.

“Some of you may have heard of my legend!” The blonde man grinned. “I am the legendary thief, The Masked Phantom!!”

“What?!” Simon stepped back in disbelief. He was one of the few who had heard of the thief’s reputation before, and he automatically began fumbling for his camera, lifting it up to try and take whatever photos he could. Rose and Dalia looked to each other with grim expressions, whilst Estelle, Amy and Dylan simply looked confused.

“Who?” Estelle muttered.

“I have come today to announce to you all my next game! The next target of ambitions, and I grant you all the chance to try and stop me… if you can!” The Masked Phantom laughed. “Let us make this something exciting, shall we?”

“What?” Estelle blinked, her face completely blank. Why is it that she and her friends always met the biggest nutjobs?

“Tomorrow night… at our very own town of Aliquam’s most prestigious Academy for the Arts… I will pull off my greatest heist yet!” The Masked Phantom laughed again. “I will steal the Academy’s greatest, and most valuable work of Art imaginable! Come!” The thief laughed. “Come, try and stop me, if you can!”

Within the blink of an eye, he was suddenly gone, black and white feathers cascading down from the swinging chandelier above, his laughter the last remnants and trace of his existence.

Tobias, at the furthest end away from where the Masked Phantom was, one-step upon the stairs leading up to the next floor’s corridor, watched the audacious man and his disappearance with growing anger and venom.

His hand shattered the glass he held into fragments.

Aliquam: Tobias’ Gala – Second Floor: Balcony overlooking the Ground Floor/Dance Hall

Tobias’ eyes rose grimly from his perch against the balcony, raising another glass of his favourite champagne to taste. His irritation at the inconvenience this blackout was causing to his party was palpable, and the fact that it hadn’t even yet been resolved was grating worse. Why on Ddaear hadn’t his servants fixed this yet? Why had this even be allowed to happen!

“Uh, excuse me?” A voice called from over his shoulder, and the patron turned slowly to look, his arms still resting on the banister. Before him was Lute and Xandra, illuminated gloomily by the bare light a floor below by Amy’s gem. As Lute and Xandra approached him, Amy, Estelle, Dylan and Dalia crossed the dance floor towards Rose and Simon, who began to relay what information they had gleamed from the party goers to the Guilders. The information being… nothing of merit.

“Hope your family jewels are under the traditional lock and key. Someone bashed your trusty generator to bits, so we can’t get it working. Sorry,” Lute explained, and Tobias’ brow twitched. This man thought it was an appropriate time for jokes?

"Someone did it on purpose, but what we don't know is the motive behind it." Xan was straight to the point and business-like. "It could range from anything to a prank, someone out for revenge, or something a lot more dangerous. Do you have any guards? We don't know how dangerous the person who did this could be, so it'd be best to have someone looking out for the guests."

"The person could be after you as well. I suggest you stay in crowded areas with people you trust."
She pointed towards the guilders below. "Also, would you mind telling us if you knew anyone who possibly wanted to get even with you? That's our leader down there, and any information you could provide would really help us out."

“Excuse me?” Tobias finally pulled back from his perch, and walked towards the pair, his eyes narrowing as he towered over them and looked down. His lips curled into a snarl at both Lute and Xandra, not certain on whom to focus his irritation on first. The nerve of these strangers, to impose suggestions on him! Who even were they? “What do you think you’re doing or saying? Who are you, to think you may take charge of my mansion and party, or to make suggestions of me? You’re Dylan’s friends, right? ‘Guilders’? That does not give you permission to butt your nose into anything you like, and as I recall I did not give any of you permission to do anything.”

His frown grew larger.

“As far as I know, *this*” His hands dramatically outstretched to emphasise the darkness surrounding them. “Could be because of you all. I know every other guest here, and well enough to know they wouldn’t dare have the telemetry to try something like this. But you people…” His thoughts flashed back to their embarrassing and interruptive display on the dance floor. And now, this group of preposterous children and their nerve to force themselves in charge of this blackout…

He tsked and turned without finishing what he was saying, and walked away from the pair, heading towards his private rooms, his interest in talking to either Guilder now since departed. The effort to do so too great to be spent utilised on arrogant people such as them. Saying that, the blonde haired blasé youth had mentioned something that was worth considering, and that was his fortune. What if this blackout was the work of thieves? It would not surprise him. Being one of the most wealthy men in Aliquam, he had attracted numerous instances of aspiring break-ins and robberies. Nothing to have ever occurred during a gala, however, or involve a blackout. He passed several servants, and ordered them to be on the lookout and to inform his guards to patrol the perimeter.

But he didn’t walk further then twenty feet away from Lute or Xandra, or take more then one foot up the next flight of stairs to the third floor, when suddenly a tinkering sound echoed beside his feet. The sound of something being dropped and rolling, a sound repeated throughout the Mansion. Tobias angrily looked down, his eyes widening at the peculiar blurred shape rolling to his feet. His eyes squinted, trying to make it out, when suddenly his entire vision was enveloped in white.

Bright flashes repeated one after the other. A chorus of startled, panicking and blinded screams shrieked from every patron and guest of Tobias’ infamous gala, the darkness rescinding into white, blinding light.

A figure darted past the swearing Tobias, across the room where Trixie and Moira’s group was in, snaking around the dizzy Lute and Xandra, to effortlessly jump up onto the edge of the balcony’s barrister, and hop off it, leaping with no effort at all across the distance to one of Tobias’ magnificent chandeliers and gripping onto it, the priceless heirloom swaying side to side until it grew accustomed to the figure’s weight. The strange figure’s hands reached into its coat, pulling out two small, thin rods that he snapped the ends of upon, and dropped them to the ground below. Compared to the earlier flash grenades, these two devices retained a constant light slightly brighter then Amy’s gem, enough to illuminate most of the Main Hall, but still allow deep shadows to submerge great parts of it.

The figure looked down over its confused, hapless and panicking audience, and a low muffled laugh of delight escaped its mirthful head.

This was so exciting!

Sure, I can do that. Featured with regards to notable RPs and new interest checks? I can give a hand to that. One thing I liked about previous RPGNs for that section, and I don't recall if that died with the Guildfall or was continued but dropped for this particular installment, was that featured Interest Checks contained summaries/blurbs explaining and detailing them that was usually taken from the main rp thread/interest check. I think that'd be a cool thing to bring back.

But yes, I wouldn't mind helping/brainstorming some ideas! :D

What kind of things would RPGN staff members like people to contribute? I wouldn't mind if it was something within my ability, but I'm wondering what kind of content is actually being looked for? I know that RPGN staff are always open and encouraging for people to add and contribute to the community with their own ideas, but as far as original stuff goes... I'm stumped. And this installment looked like it had everything a news letter could provide of community updates and going ons.
Hey everyone, I think I'm going to skip posting for today after a long and busy and annoying work week and post first thing in the morning. :) Sorry if it holds anyone up, but I'll endeavour to make tomorrow's post exciting!!

Have a great weekend everyone <3
Happy Independance Day, everyone!! I hope you're all having a wonderfully free day (3 days of no work whoo!!) filled with fireworks, eagles, mcdonalds and all that other great stereotypical american stuff. Cus, yeah.
