@ OT:

Dude, it's nothing to even do with this canon character/fanfiction thing. That topic was brought up and ended a while ago other then for you repeating it over and over. The problem is your attitude and the way you communicate with people in this thread.

Do you really have nothing better to do with your RP time than bitch about shit that bothers you?

This is exactly what you're doing. C'mon.
OT said No Pachamac. I'm beginning to feel like this community may need me. Like maybe that's why he was so adamant about my coming here of all places.

Man, what?

You're not the RPing messiah. Come on, man.

OT said My quarrel is with those who wrestle with entry level, basic problems, saying stuff like "no one can write a canon character but the creator."

>.< I mean that's so stupid it hurts my brain!

Truly minuscule problems being treated like catastrophes.

And you're treating these miniscule problems and perfectly fine grievances for people to have within a gripe thread as catastrophes yourself?
Outlaw Torn said And I'm sorry you feel that way, Pachamac. But the inexperience and lack of conviction around here is getting ridiculous. I was asked to come here, with the promise of the finest RP site the world has to offer.

And I'm feeling like a fuckin' fool for it!

Then look for another forum? I don't want to be the kind of person who tells someone to leave, but if you're unhappy about this forum to the point where you claim you're a 'fucking fool' for being on here and are yourself going into long rants about points other people are making and being condescending about it then perhaps this isn't the place for you.

Chill out, man.
Whilst not all characters need to be in the centre of the spotlight, and indeed it's beneficial and important for a story to not just have that, with characters fulfilling important roles on the sidelines (whilst still attaining their own spotlight when the moment is right and shared between the characters and players across the length of the rp), when it comes down to a 1x1 roleplay you generally tend to expect both players to have their characters be equal, and not have one character serve as nothing more then a prop and support to all of the other characters' problems. If you think it's fine within a 1x1 for an RPer to have the story revolve all around their character and have their partner do little else but prop the other character and their story up with no consideration for their own, then... I dunno what to say. Read Genkai's post again. I mean, you might be more then happy with this in your rp, but then again you're the only player actually in that rp, so...

The condescending tone and attitude is getting to be a bit ridiculous and getting to be too much. It's unnecessary and unneeded.
Oh wow Fox, your characters sound so amazing! 8D I loved Mr. Cuddles soooooo much. Will he ever have his love for Miss Panda requited? I have to know ;A;

Also lol @ Tobias with Dylan's powerset. That's kinda spooky... |D And Alina looks so damn complex. :0 We need to get everyone's favourite characters into the rp somewhere 8D

And I just posted~

Hold onto your hats folks cus this is where the party really starts >8D

Aliquam: Academy of the Arts: Northern Sector: Theatre Hall

With the Masked Phantom’s entrance, it felt as if all time within the Theatre Hall slowed to a crawl. The Pride looked amongst themselves with uneasy trepidation, and down to the man at the far end of the room, hovering in the air above the stage with Angel slumped over his shoulder, all at a complete and utter loss to know what to do. Despite his confinement, Jay relaxed with a smile inside his cage, confident that he and his allies had already secured their victory, with Francesca waiting in one of the balconies overlooking the rest of the hall, biding her time.

The Pride were left at a hopeless disadvantage considering everything the thieves had managed to set out and accomplish – holding and threatening a hostage, along with the threat of activating the charges they had already placed around the Academy, and endangering not only the Pride but all of the faculty staff both conscious and unconscious upon the school grounds. The only option they were given was to accept the Masked Phantom’s demands… release Jay back into their custody, and agree to retreat, taking with them the rest of the Academy’s staff, so that the thieves could accomplish their goal of somehow stealing the Academy building itself.

There was no option.

Was there…?

All eyes turned to Dylan and Tobias. Just seconds ago they had been arguing on what to do, with Tobias demanding they press the advantage of threatening to fatally hurt Jay unless the thieves surrendered, whilst Dylan was willing to relinquish the Academy if but to prevent anybody from being hurt. Neither felt like favourable options to the rest of them. The thought of giving in to the Masked Phantom and his allies… and just allowing them all to get away free, destroying and stealing the Academy with them… it was wrong and incomprehensible. They couldn’t do that, could they? But what other options did they have?

Dylan starred at the Masked Phantom, his fists clenched by his side. The more the man spoke, and grinned in that arrogant manner, the more the Matter Artist grew angry. They had them beat, but there was no need to rub it in their faces. He was already doing enough – hurting his friends and holding them hostage. Threatening to destroy the school that was his home, and crushing the dreams and memories of all of his friends who came to live and study here. Granted, not all of the memories Dylan had of his time here were pleasant. Some, thanks to Tobias, were ones he’d rather forget. But that wasn’t up to the Masked Phantom to decide, or anyone. Nobody had the right to do this to another person. Not to him, not to Dalia, to Angel, Rose, Simon, Keeva, or even Tobias himself. Nobody had that right. And not to look so damn arrogant and smug at the same time.

“I hope you've all come to a favourable decision?”

Then his words flashed inside his mind.

“DYLAN!! You’re no longer Little Bro! From now on… now on you’re the Big Bro! And that means you have to look after Big Sis, and our other sises, and all of our other little bros!”

In the time that he had left Aliquam, he had grown up. He had become a Guilder, and most importantly, become a member of the Pride. In that short space of time he had seen and done many different things, and grown stronger from that. And on top of that… perhaps a little bit more crazy too. What Dylan did next wasn’t rational, but when was anything the Pride ever did?

Throw reason and sanity to the walls! This goddamn rotten stinking coward smelly buttbreath scumbag threatened his home, his family, his friends! And no way would Dylan let him!!

His hands gripped and snatched his slate from his belt, pulling it up in front of him as he scratched his chalk on top. His eyes, closed and fixed in complete concentration, began to work his magical efforts into imbuing his next construct. The Masked Phantom had made an enemy of the wrong people!!

The crude sketch was drawn in seconds. Dylan’s eyes snapped open, staring and willing for it to materialise where he stared. Just behind the Masked Phantom, it formed:-

A giant wooden log attached to the ceiling with rope. As soon as it was willed into existence, it swung on its pendulum. The blonde thief turned in abject surprise at the sudden creation, but was powerless to stop himself from being hit. A hastily thrown buffer of wind absorbed most of the impact, but he was still thrown off of his platform of wind, to land roughly onto the wooden stage beneath. Angel was launched from his arms, but safely caught in another vortex of wind, this one much friendlier. With Herculean effort and control, Marcus concentrated on bringing Angel closer to the Pride – and Aria and Xandra rushed out to meet him, helping catch the bound student.

Tobias watched with wide eyes and whistled. He cocked one eyebrow to Dylan.

“What was it you said just a second ago?”

“I changed my mind,” Dylan replied, facing the thief staggering back to his feet. “Threatening my home, my friends and family… no. He’s pissing me off, and the Pride don’t give in to anyone.”

Tobias laughed and grinned, cracking his knuckles. “I like it.”

“Any objections?” Dylan asked to the rest of his friends. They all shook their heads unanimously.

“None.” Marcus smiled. A bright green glow left his staff and wafted through each and every one of his allies, buffering and improving their agility. The Pride certainly would not give in.

The Masked Phantom rose to his feet, and turned his head to glare at them, narrowing his eyes. “Francesca. Jay. Miffy. Fabian. Take them all out.” As a counterpart to Marcus’ own magics, a bright green glow encircled and enveloped the thief’s own body.

Meanwhile, directly outside the doors to the Theatre Hall…

Two particular thiefs had made a spritely dash from the South-Western sector of the Academy where they had once been fighting Lute, Trixie and Rose, to flee upon Amy, Moira and Syed’s arrival and traverse all the way to the Theatre Hall with the hope of supporting their allies. Miffy said little, as Fabian did most of the talking for them, amidst his cussing atop Miffy’s shoulder. He was still angry that the pint sized brat had stolen his equipment, but he’d make it up to his idol, no matter what. By springing in alongside Miffy to help the rest of his team and take these cussing Guilders out for good!

At least… that was the plan.

A sharp and powerful blow slammed into Miffy’s face with a crack, sending the towering giant stumbling back. The attack hurt less then it was surprising, but it was another to topple his balance and make him fall over, with Fabian stumbling down to the ground and to the side, ironic payback for what he had done to Rose, Lute and Trixie when they were riding Sebastian.

The boy began to cuss loudly, and Miffy opened his eyes to blink in-between the eyeholes of his bunny mask in wonder at who his attacker was.

Fiery determined eyes stared back at him, a young woman’s face lit up by the flickering embers of her enflamed sword.

“I TOLD YOU GODDAMN COWARDS I WAS GONNA BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF YOU!” Estelle said angrily, shifting to a ready fighting stance that could turn into either a powerful offence, or steady defence – the door to the Theatre Hall directly behind her. "NO MORE RUNNING!"

And in the distance, the footsteps of her companions from the South-West were quickly approaching.

Storytime
Not really sure what you're asking here. Some rps have skype groups, and some don't - mine only came about a while after the rp started, it all depends on the rp and group in question. Why are you looking for one with a skype group? And what do you mean by vikings and adding them to it?
Hey guys!

This was something I came up with and asked the players of my rp, but I was also wondering about you guys and what your experiences have been as well. I'm curious to hear about your favourite rps and your favourite characters that you've played :D And I might also make a couple of discussion threads about this, idk. c: I'm just being super nosy and curious. XD

Ah, I'm loving this SO SO MUCH. I think I might have to actually turn this into a couple of threads in the Discussion section or at least post and ask the members of the Legends of Midnight group. So, so much fun.

All of your prior rps have such neat concepts! I love that Holiday themed one a lot (seriously, that's genius) and Lies of the Throne sounds like it had a really cool setup and love and attention placed to it. It's a shame it didn't get too far and that the GMs abandoned it quite quickly. Even then I wish I was around for the planning, since it sounds like you guys had such a blast doing that. I'm jealous >8D

I remember Fox's (or rather, Panda's) Aven rp too. I wasn't a part of it but it had a wonderful concept, and it's neat that you're reusing it for Midnight. ^^ We need to make sure we save these rp concepts for the future though, I wanna play some of these for definite. Fox's Carriers mention makes me really want to do a zombie rp again. :( They're such oldies, but goodies.

HOLY SHIT REX I FORGOT ALL ABOUT For the Future we Fight (F3). It didn't get as far as I'd have liked but the concept... hng. The general concept was, like Rex said, two timelines, one for the Present, one for the Future. In the present, it was set one week before the government would activate a worldwide broadcast signal that would inhibit people from criminal thoughts and activity, essentially wiping out crime immediately and rendering world peace. In the week up to that broadcast, tensions around the world were obviously growing and crime was, ironically, at its highest peak. And then, the future... well, something went wrong. There was peace, but at a totalitarian cost. Apart from a few rebellious individuals, the world's populous was rendered braindead worker zombies, going about their lives and jobs without really thinking anything. It was a peace, but not the peace that was desired, and any resistance to that was met with opposition by this sort of robot security, since something was governing and controlling things.

The rp was run with both timelines being shown with the same characters, except different from the ten year gap, but what had happened inbetween was unexplained/unplanned and part of the mystery in finding out. For example, in the Present my character was a gangmember trying to break out of the crime family he was a part of. In the Future, he was a rebel leader with a cybernetic arm and eye. In the Past, one character who he'd met was a law abiding, goody twoshers who was trying to be a lawyer and who took an immediate dislike to my character. In the future, he was a chaotic anarchist and close confidant and ally to my character. How did they get that way, etc? Such fun. And on top of that, there was a plot involving sending the souls of those in the future back into their past bodies to try and prevent this future from occuring (Third Birthday style) if they even could. So good. Unfortunately some people didn't really get this and would only play characters in one timeline, since they couldn't imagine character differences/development without plotting it all out beforehand. Kind of missed the point of the rp that way. D|

Also Kei, Rex, I love your chars so much <3 I'm glad we got Crispin and Val in Tales, we should Exandra in there somewhere too, even as a guest for a chapter! And Kei, the exact same for your characters! :D I want me some Victoria hnnnng
When you meet conflict resolution, do you mean between the players, or between characters within the IC?

IC wise, I generally trust my players to know what's reasonable and right for what their characters should do. When players first join my rp I emphasise how players should and must be prepared for their characters to be injured or lose - afterall, characters that can always win aren't particularly interesting. Characters who lose, and then rise up to overcome their opponents are simply more interesting. I first established this within the first mission where their enemy was simply that powerful that defeating them wasn't an plausible option, and that retreating was the safer, sane option. Not everything needs to result in a victory. Fortunately, all of my players understand this and not only accept it, but support it. They're all quite ready and willing to have their characters injured or lose because it helps make the story more dramatic and interesting. It's something which has to really come down to trust. I dislike stats and dice systems, they're not my thing at all, afterall I prefer the flexibility of having my characters lose in the way I want without having to have that be decided by a dice roll or stat.

Now, what happens if a player doesn't understand this? Then it becomes a GM call, and something they should communicate over the OOC. If a player is writing a character to be too powerful then what they should, the GM should inform them, explain what is wrong, suggest ways to improve and ask the player to edit their post. If the player disagrees or continues to suffer the same problem where they don't understand the 'power level' within the rp, then the GM needs to deliberate on whether or not the player is suited for the rp.

Player conflict is the same thing really if it continues and escalates - final say is with the GM, but then again I think your topic means character conflict?
