Wheels don't make you fly.
You don't need to fly to fire at the heavens.
You are missing the point entirely. Airships can fly. They can fly high. So high anti-air guns start to be ineffective. In this case, one could build ships specifically made to pretty much carry anti-air guns up with them for when airships are out of range of ground emplacements. I am not saying everyone should make such ships. I am saying you could. You could also try to develop ground emplacements with better range. But if you want mobility, the ships are a good option.

Ground emplacements are going to have trouble hitting airships that are hanging around beyond their effective range.
As far as ideas go, it'd be cool to see anti-air airships. Basically small ships meant to fly under enemy airships and shoot the hell out of them. If an airship is harassing someone's position from really high up, a few of these anti-air ships could be deployed to fly up and shoot up at it (from underneath them). If the enemy ship gives chase, they could just fly back down, shooting up at it the whole way, and split up to make themselves harder targets.
@So Boerd Eh, I deleted the post anyway. It came off worse than I intended and I don't mean to dismantle what makes the RP what it is, that being fantasy. And in the end it comes down to how committed players are to playing fairly and with the purpose of creating a good cooperative story. If players have their sights on that, there should be no arguments over what can hit what, or who should win, ect. That's what's important.
Shit, I am not trying to dismantle anything. If it seems that way, I apologize. I am not even formally in the RP, just observing. The solution is simple though: make airships more versatile. Allow them to be able to get over these shortcomings. EDIT: I deleted my post. I don't want to seem intrusive or like I am trying to ruin everything.

Heh, telling a Preciprick about the rule of cool. Have you looked at some of the shit in Preciprick threads? If we had a holy text, the rule of cool would be somewhere near the start.
Tanks are highly dependent on infantry support to get their jobs done. If you wanted a world where tanks just stared at each other across open plains, firing wildly but never capturing ground for any significant amount of time, then yeah, it'd work. Otherwise, you'd need infantry.
An an observer, I wonder why Elan is only being used for colossal ships. Why not other hover-craft? Hover-tanks, hover-cars. Hell, that dude with bicycles could upgrade to hover-bikes.
