When you make a roleplay do you like making several characters or just one?

I play many. Like, a lot. I'm a nation RP kind of guy, so that usually means I play the leader of the nation, as well as the people under him, and even simple citizens. And I'm not talking "My nation sends a million troops to invade buttfucknowhere". I'm talking getting to know a lot of characters on a personal level, with character development and all.
