Pokemon: Hoenn – Make a Wish

Setting
The Hoenn in this RP will be an Alternate Universe to that of the game, anime, and manga.

Natural sources of energy (wind, hydro, compression, heat, etc.) are gathered to power all of Hoenn. Mauville City oversees all collections and distributions of energy but also reports to the Fairfax Association. This allows all of Hoenn to be largely pollution-free.

The culture of this RP’s version of Hoenn will be considered liberal (socially, sexually, morally, whatever.). Most believe technology and nature can work together in harmony and that if technology negatively impacts nature, it does not belong. Consider this the baseline for your character’s involvement/opinion/role in this RP.

There are 18 Gyms, one of each type. The Gyms do not reside in the same places as the game/anime and they do not reside only in towns or cities. All 18 badges are required to challenge the Elite Four, which are stationed on Victory Road. The Pokemon League is where the Championship takes place, which is held in the summer each year. Participants are only required to have "successfully" defeated their region's Elite Four to compete in Hoenn’s Championship.

Mega Evolution has not yet been discovered, though there may be those investigating the possibility of Mega Evolution. I'd like to explore this mechanic throughout the RP where appropriate.

There is no maximum to the number of Pokemon to which an individual has immediate access. All are stored in one’s Gauntlet or carried on their person (should they not wish to have a gauntlet). There is no PC system and trading is performed by hand.

You may create any type of character you wish, there is no restriction (this includes age, occupation (Gym Leader, Scientist, Breeder, etc.), race, nationality, or even religion). Whether they interact with Pokemon is up to you. I only ask you keep in mind that there is intent to interact with the plot (which will be introduced ICly when the time comes).

The nature of this RP will work like a D&D campaign mixed with Sandbox. No two characters are required to interact with each other. You may decide to start the RP together or meet at a designated location along the way. I, as the GM, will be interacting with each player individually, however. I will introduce NPCs and plot points. I might guide certain characters together, but you all decide how your own story plays out, ultimately. I encourage collaboration (privately or publicly is fine) with each other as well as with me.

Rules
- No God-modding, power-playing, meta-gaming, etc. etc.
- There is no minimum or maximum post length. However, it must add to your plot or the plot of others should you be interacting with other players.
- Please be conscious of grammar. Ironically, my reading comprehension is lower than average and good grammar will help things along tremendously.
- Criticism, from all parties, should be constructive and respectful. Over PM is always best.
- Character Sheets should be PM'd to me before posting in the Character Tab. I do not want to see CSs in the OOC. I do not want to see WIPs anywhere in the thread. Make a PM for yourself to work on or send the WIP to me and I'll help you finish it if you have concerns/questions/etc.
- There is no limit to the number of characters you may employ. However, if issues occur, you will be asked to let any number of them go.
- Posting will be once after each of my own posts. Exceptions to this rule may occur.
- Contributing to aspects of technology, landscapes, and landmarks is encouraged.
- This list may change.

Noteable Technologies
Trainer Gauntlet
This light metallic devise wraps around the user's forearm when a Gym Leader or Professor acknowledges you have obtained your first legitimate Pokemon (ultimately up to the individual). The touch screen wraps around the arm and does not glare from the sun and cannot be scratched or smudged. It is fully waterproof and virtually indestructible. It comes in a variety of basic colors. They can materialize stored items, including but not limited to money, berries, Pokeballs, and bicycles.

Standard Applications
Pokedex
Pokemon Encyclopedia
Map/GPS
Pokemon Storage/Trading
Bank
Item Storage

Applications for Purchase
Training System
Pokemon Rentals
Customized Skins

PokeStations
These have replaced Pokemon Centers and Marts. They connect with the Trainer's Gauntlet to heal Pokemon and make purchases that will be digitally transferred from the station to the Gauntlet. They are unmanned and about the area of a phone booth but half the height and open. They are completely weatherproof.

Pokemon Mechanics
  • Pokemon can know and use any number of moves. They are not restricted by the game mechanics, canon from the anime or manga or any other forum. However, there will be other restrictions.
  • Moves must align with the Pokemon’s type and species (Starmie cannot know Thunderbolt or Gyro Ball, but can know Water Spout and Extrasensory. Bisharp can learn moves like X-Scissor and Guillotine, etc.).
  • TM’s and HM’s don’t exist. Teaching/Tutoring/etc. is enough to teach a Pokemon a new move, but it takes time.
  • Waterfall/Rock Smash/Cut/etc. are literally field moves. Surf does not create a tidal wave. Fly does not crash into the opponent. Strength does not throw the opponent around. Either other maneuvers should be utilized or new moves can be created for the same in-game effect.
  • Moves may be combined, but their power/effectiveness does not stack or add onto each other. They meld together to an average between the two.
  • Pokemon will perform the same move differently. One Butterfree uses Double Team and creates 3 free-moving forms. Another Butterfree uses Double Team and creates 20 mirror images that imitates the real one. As per this example, make sure to make maneuvers scale in ability to a reasonable level. However, this level will differ when certain techniques are trained to become more superior than the average.
  • Abilities are not limited to the games' discretion. The Ability should match the species/type of the Pokemon and Abilities of Legendary Pokemon are off-limits.
  • Pokemon have their own strategies and techniques upon which they rely. One Butterfree uses more passive/defensive methods and has a strong Light Screen, Poison Powder, Sleep Powder, and Stun Spore but has a below-average Bug Buzz, Silver Wind, and Aerial Ace. Another Butterfree can be the opposite, with above-average offense and below-average defense. Keep this in mind when creating your Pokemon.
  • Battle is real-time. Stats are largely irrelevant (no Pokemon is held to a max or min of any stat). Typing is somewhat irrelevant (any type can learn to withstand any weakness, but this must come at a cost). Of course, where a Pokemon exceeds others, there must be areas where they do not meet the standard. Feel free to min-max as much as you want. There will be no mention of stats in this RP, however.
  • Winning a battle is not always determined by knocking out the opponent. There are skills and behaviors between Pokemon and trainer which may be judged when considering a victor or deciding whether a badge has been earned.
Example: The Gym Leader of Petalburg looks for grace with precision in both the trainer and their Pokemon. Perhaps the challenger's Pokemon are knocked-out, but they are awarded the badge because they showed precise grace. Perhaps the challenger completely overpowered the Gym Leader, but they are not awarded the badge because they did not exhibit precise grace.
The expectations of the Gym Leaders may range from utilizing a specific move, utilizing a specific type or species of Pokemon. This may not be consistent with all challengers or the expectations may shift slightly or be thrown out all together as it is completely up to the discretion of the Gym Leader.
  • Pseudo-legendary Pokemon will be restricted and Legendary Pokemon are off-limits.
  • Pokemon may have and additional type added to their species. They may also have types omitted. This goes for Pokemon moves, as well. This is largely for the sake of flavor.

Kawahi Kuroji

Akimoto Kouta

Nakahara Tokiko
I assumed he didn't have to do much since no one sought him out and no one told him his role (from my knowledge). If this is an incorrect assumption, I have no problems adding to my post. ^^
His hands worked over his body, fogging the clear water with browns and reds. His fingers worked through his hair, forming a braid from front hairline to the ends of the strands. It was thick and coarse, some stray ends sticking out in a rather haphazard manner. He tore a piece of cloth nearby and tied it at the end. It would take much longer to dry like this, but it would remain out of his face and keep from distracting him. The water sloshed when he pushed himself up and reached his feet out of the trough and onto the floor causing the sound of a slap to travel through the open room. A short waterfall was created as he stood in his cleaned state upon the concrete.

The clothes on the chair were scooped by large hands and transported to that same trough with dirtied water. Large hands pushed them down and rung them out in order to force out the stains. A few moment later, they were as clean as they would allow and were slung across a rope stretching the length of the narrow aisle between the wall and the baths. There was a slight draft which would slightly hasten the time for the clothes to dry and stiffen.

Ramando took this time to calm his mind from racing through the streets and burning buildings throughout this fair town. The worry of his fellow brother was enough to churn his head with negativities toward their initial leader. He needed to silence these thoughts. He sat without clothing on a chair. He closed his eyes and opened his awareness to all around him. Focusing on everything: the footsteps heard next to him, in front of him, and above him; faint muffled voice; the smell of humidity in the room; the smell of iron and ash that followed him from the infirmary; the sound of the long sheet twitching from the slight breeze through the room; doors opening and closing; shouts of surprise, disgust; horror; and hope.
Rebooted the computer from manufacturer's settings. Doesn't seem to be doing anything funky. Looking good now! :D

I'll definitely be getting my post up tomorrow, though. ^^
I've been working on a post all week, but I'm so intimidated by the unpredictability of my computer. xP

I'll get something up by the end of the week. :) (hopefully sooner)
I made those edits as well as some others (which were just personal narrative and grammatical choices).

I may add to it if no one approaches him, but that would be for my own pleasure. ;P
Yeah, I had to restart my computer 4 times just to post that (which included typing it up). But I'll probably just end up writing my posts from my phone and editing it five times. xP

I knew there were going to be errors, I was going to ask you but then dinner came along. ^^
I'll make the proper edits tomorrow (or tonight if I can't sleep). I wrote down everyone's races and basic features for reference, though, so the edits should be accurate. ;) I knew those references weren't accurate.

But yeah, I wanted to contribute to setting the scene. If there's anythingelse I should edit, let me know. :)
A deep orange filled this level of the Keep. Usually a common room used for sparring, the mid-level had been turned into a make-shift infirmary. Accidental and temporary nurses shuffled around between occupied beds and cots. Their aprons were stained and blotted with red, pink, brown, and yellow. Browned red bandages were dunked into buckets with pinkened water. Mops worked the floors around the cots and beds, turning the water a slight yellow. Clicks of heels across the floor and up and down the stairs provided a steady rhythm to which quiet groans followed. The stones of the Keep’s walls made sure to echo the melody in an uneasy manner. The smell of iron and vapor and ash complimented the scene fittingly, if slightly nauseating.

A man sitting still, seemingly meditating or mourning, stood out rather harshly from the rest. One might assume him a monk of some kind, but his stature and ethnicity harshly questioned that assumption. His dark skin was uneven in tone, suggesting mud or dirt had been smeared across his body. The valleys in his musculature were black from the poor lighting. His black hair waved erratically down his shoulder blades. What were once white, cloth wraps twisted around his arms and legs. One wouldn’t be able to tell if the bloodstains were produced by his own flesh. Though he sat on a one-foot stool, his hunched back rose above the approaching dwarf’s head.

“Brother Brightwood,” the “nurse” said, interrupting the man’s meditation. She looked up at him as she continued. “There’s another…”

Ramando had been carrying bodies of those who couldn’t sustain their wounds. When he first arrived, he helped situate his fellow brother, Waladra. His leg was caught under some debris from an unknown explosion. Ramando was there to toss away the large stones and wooden beams. Other brothers offered to help, but they couldn’t be as helpful as a giant, through no fault of their own.

Since the nurses were scarce here, getting a stretcher all the way outside was more trouble than they could afford. The time it would take them to bring one body down, another would expire when they made it back up.

The man responded only by rising to his feet, which seemed to take too long in the opinion of the dwarf. He could have responded in her native tongue, but speaking was unnecessary considering the situation. Ramando simply slung the body over his shoulder and walked quietly down the stairs. Passers-by would understand that there was another fatality when they would see this surprisingly large human carrying down a body. He’d been up and down those stairs almost the entire day. The nurses asked much of him. Cots and bedframes, mattresses and sheets, buckets of water and bandages Ramando had hauled to the make-shift infirmary.

He gently placed the body upon a cart that would transport many other bodies to a location safe enough to provide for them a proper burial. Of course it would simply sit there, exuding a stench that could only cause a rumbling in the dragon's body. Without emotion, Ramando made his way back up the Keep with two large pails of water.

He placed the pails next to a nurse who was desperately attempting to stop excess bleeding. Ramando simply paced away in silence to keep his injured brother company in his unconscious state. The rumors had been true, but none of them expected their Master and leader of this mission to simply abandon them in a time so desperate for them all. Ramando suspected something more than simply abandon, however.

He shifted his head to face a window. The descending sun created a bleeding of colors more beautiful than any human could produce. There was some commotion outside Ramando didn’t expect, however. He rose from his stool and looked down at a group of what seemed to be common villagers. With them were a green man or orc, a paladin, a frail-looking elf, and a Halfling. They clearly were not of this city. He simply made a mental note that more individuals to which would require mending in an already overpopulated infirmary. He took his seat next to his Brother.

“Brother Brightwood,” a young man’s voice called from across the broken instrumental of the room. Ramando recognized it as Brother Dreel, a boy he’d saved in the woods a few days back. Scars had been created across his body, to which Ramando took full responsibility. “I’ll stay with him. Go get some rest.”

The boy was still wary and intimidated by the giant, but after seeing that the man held a compassion deeper than most, Dreel had developed a respect and trust in the fellow monk.

“No, I’m fine,” Ramando roared quietly.

Brother Dreel just sighed and raised his hand to place onto Ramando’s large shoulder. “Come on, at least go get something to eat,” the boy pleaded. “And clean yourself up,” he added with a soft chuckle.

Ramando looked down at his hands and followed them up his arms. He at least needed new wrapping. “I’ll be right back,” Ramando said. The tone of his voice faded into the stone, but it was still comprehensive.

The giant rose, and the base of his chest reached past the boy’s head. Brother Dreel just looked thankfully into the man’s eyes and then took the stool for his own. “Don’t take too long,” the boy teased.

Large yet quite feet stepped down the stairs. It seemed the villagers were being ushered to be assessed while the eclectic band of heroes were being interviewed or recorded. Ramando just paced quietly across the floor, hoping to not attract any attention, which was likely impossible. But he made his way to the back where a bathroom had been set up for soldiers and escorted villagers.

Troughs full of water were placed rather closely to each other. The room was divided by a giant sheet to separate the men and women from seeing each other with inappropriate gazes. Ramando kept to himself as he removed his wraps and monk garb. He folded them neatly onto a chair and walked peacefully over to a trough. Lacking clothing, his body was as impressive as the immodest clothing suggested. He bathed himself quickly, rinsing off all the mud and blood from his body and hair. He clearly had southern ancestry. But there was a fairness in his features that contrasted against the usual features of the Turami. His blue eyes and sleek face, despite being unshaven, hinted toward his Illuskan roots. Through his impressive musculature were prominent bones, signature to those Illuskan roots. His skin was lighter than assumed after the mud was washed from his skin.
my computer isn't working properly. Viruses are killing it. I can't seem to be on the internet in any capacity for very long until it freezes. I'm going to try to work around it. I'm handwriting my first post and will try to get it to a word document and paste it as quick as I can, I guess. Otherwise, I'll have to use my phone.

I just wanted to let you all know. It'll probably take more effort to post. I'll be as regular as possible, though.
