Things had certainly not worked out according to her plan. She'd been aiming to get the money from the armored car, get away, use the money for tuition and then never do anything like this again. And it had all been going so well too. The constructs had worked just like she had planned them too, the armored car had been taken out, and then some hero, she later learned it was the one called Lyger, had interfered and ruined everything.

Now instead of paying for her college tuition she no longer had college to attend and didn't have to worry about the money, which was about the only positive thing she had going for her. Elaine had never been one to hate, but that guy had foiled her efforts to get something she needed, and it wasn't like she had been on a spree or anything. It was his fault she was in this mess now, his fault!

At least she kept telling herself that as the transport van rattled down the city streets. They were transporting her to the metahuman containment facility, and they'd been smart about it too, nothing she could manipulate or turn into a creation was touching any of her exposed skin. She tried to muster up the fire to keep on being angry, because at least the anger filled her with something, but it was slipping away and leaving only the emptiness of despair behind. Her life was ruined, because of one stupid thing and now...

Her pity party was suddenly interrupted with a bang as she heard the police officers in the front of the van shouting. It was hard to make out the words but she thought she heard something about the darkness. A sudden impact knocked the van over on its side, bouncing her around even though the restraints kept her from moving much. Then there was a horrible ripping and tearing of metal, the harsh barking of gunfire, and then screams, terrible screams of pain and fear.

But the sound that really stood out was not the screaming, or the ripping of metal, or even the gunfire, no the sound that stood out was the laughter. It was a thick and heavy sound, a sound that was phlegmy and inhuman, a sound that seemed to come from deep within the bowels of a monster, if in fact there was something that could make that sound. And it was a laughter that made Elaine panic. She knew what had happened in the last few months, how a monstrous killer had stalked the city slaughtering at will and leaving destruction in his wake.

"You have got to be kidding me." She spoke softly. "First the hero and the police, now this?" But then she fell silent, maybe it wouldn't check the back of the van, maybe she could still get out of this alive. There had to be a chance that it would happen. But somehow she doubted it. Nightmare hadn't been known for letting people survive, he had been known for slaughtering everything that stood in his way.

Instead of the expected sound of more ripping metal there was instead a flash of brilliant light as a white flame obliterated the wall of the van. It was strange, not seemingly like normal fire as rather than burning what it struck simply seemed to vanish as if it had never been. Beyond the hole that now existed in the wall there was only darkness, a thick swirling miasma that was impossible to see through. Elaine readied herself for the worst, but the worst did not come.

There was no flood of darkness pouring in through the large hole. Instead a figure appeared, stepping forth from the darkness in a costume. And as the darkness broke around the figure more details could be seen. The woman was wearing a costume of some kind, a large pointed cone of a hat, half gold and half black was set atop her head and from the sides came a neck guard of fabric that flowed downward, the left half of her face was covered by a black mask of metal and the right half was covered by a golden veil. Two long streamers, one gold from her right side and one black from her left side hung down her back, the chest of the costume seemed to be armored with thin scales of metal under a layer of fabric that still managed to cling tightly to a generous figure. Her lower body was covered by what seemed to be a long skirt like garment that went down past her knees made of the same sort of armored fabric as the top part of the costume. Both of her hands were left free. Though around her right hand a flicker of the white flame still burned.

Elaine had no words at that moment and she could only wait for the death she was sure was coming. She closed her eyes, not wanting to see the end. But instead of fire came a gentle laughter. It was a sweet and musical sound that lasted for a few seconds before she heard the woman speak with a voice like an angel's. "Oh my, Old friend it seems your slaughter of the policemen has scared the girl." There was no reply from the swirling darkness. "You can open your eyes young one, we mean you no harm. It's my turn to choose the new recruit."

Elaine opened her eyes when she was told and after a moment of silence where the woman seemed to expect her to speak she managed to say something. "You... You aren't going to kill me?"

And the woman only laughed again and shook her head. "Of course not. This is a jailbreak and an invitation."

"An invitation?"

"Yes, an invitation. We have been leaving recruiting around for the last few months you know."

But before Elaine could say anything in response to this last comment a demonic thing stepped from the darkness. All bones and blades, with a visage that looked like little more than a barren horned skull and armor adorned similarly. At that her already overtaxed nerves failed and oblivion took her.

"I thought we told you to keep some flesh on. They don't take it very well anymore." The woman's voice was highly critical as she directed it towards the skeletal figure.

"It itches. And who are you to give me orders As-- Helen. We are equals" A skeletal hand lifted a bone blade but stopped as another voice boomed, this one far louder.

"YOU WILL BE SILENT. WE HAVE NOT SLEPT LIKE YOU HAVE. WE HAVE LIVED IT AND I DO GIVE YOU ORDERS. SOULFIRE BRING THE GIRL."

And with that silence fell and the darkness poured into the wrecked van.

If someone wants to have certain features, can such be requested to be added?

Character you have created: Aurelia Nirealh

Alias: NA

Speech Color: Orange

Character Alignment: Villain

Identity: It's Complicated

Character Personality: Fanatical willpower, utter willingness to make any and all sacrifices to achieve the necessary goal, great devotion to the cause, these are all elements that are critical to understanding her personality. Due to experience and a vast amount of training for this mission she is extremely quick to react. Her survival of them is evidence of an ability to set aside emotions like fear or the drive for self preservation to do what must be done. At the same time, she is not an unfeeling machine. Casualties are avoided when possible, the beings of this world are considered to be people, albeit primitives, and as such efforts are taken to when possible avoid harming them. She does have a personality beyond that of the dedicated soldier, bent on accomplishing the task that has been set before her, but at this point it has been of little value in the endeavor, and she is capable of suppressing her personal desires for the good of mission.

Uniform/costume: Like all Praetorians Aurelia has a series of shards of unknown material that are at times attached to her, and at times floating in a halo of sorts around her body. Hers as befits one of her station has many components, and they are quite developed. When they are anchored to her body a pair of them anchor against the sides of her head, stretching up nearly a foot in height above her head even when attached. Two shorter ones anchor against the upper sides and top, reaching slightly higher than the longer ones below due to the higher start. Finally one at the peak of her head that extends higher than the rest. In addition to the shards that attach to her head she also has a pair that attach to the outside of her upper arms and rise up to be level with her head.

Also like all Praetorians Aurelia has sheath of sorts around her body. Rather than skin there is a hard layer of a highly resilient and durable material that has a bright white coloration, almost like fine china in most cases. This layer is form fitting and covers the entirety of her body. In its natural state her mouth, eyes, ears, and nose to some extent, have openings to allow for sight, scent, hearing, and eating, and her features are clearly visible beneath it as if it was another, if thicker layer of skin. In less natural states the covering can extend to completely block all openings and form a protective seal. The sheath can be shed at will and regrown in a short period of time, how long it takes depending on the individual.

Beneath this layer is what would be most comparable to a human layer of skin. Her skin is a pale silvery blue in color and should she be wounded a dark fluid would flow from her wounds. Her skin at this level is more fragile than a humans and is extremely porous, as well as being extremely sensitive to stimuli of all kinds.

For the actual physical structure of the Praetorians, they look oddly similar to humanity, their bodies are proportionally extremely similar and they possess analogous anatomy. As such Aurelia looks quite similar to a human, albeit one is either wearing a suit of porcelain, or who has silver blue skin, slightly glowing orange eyes, and silver hair. Her features are rather delicate and refined as well, something that is visible even when covered by the sheath.

In terms of actual clothing Aurelia will typically wear a raiment of gold and crimson that is amorphous in nature, reshaping itself as necessary and able to define itself into a number of different patterns as needed.

Origin Info: Aurelia is an agent of the Empire, an elite operative specially chosen from the most potent members of her kind for mission of utmost importance. One of the few members of her kind capable of surviving a transit across the boundaries of reality through an unsecured gateway she has been dispatched to this world to create a gateway device and allow the true linking of the worlds….

Hero Type: Technically Aurelia's powers like all of her kind are technology based. However due to the extremely advanced nature of them, the ways in which they work are not obvious and to this time period on earth they will most likely seem magical rather than technological.

Power Level (Select one below):
D. Cosmic

Powers (Be Specific):

Like all Praetorians Aurelia possesses racial abilities.

She has the ability to grow and shed her protective sheath at will and has the ability to do so within a few seconds time, extremely quickly by the standards of her people, most of whom can take up to an hour to fully generate the sheath. Aurelia also possesses the ability to interface with Praetorian technology, an ability granted by her array of shards that she like all Praetorians possesses. Further she has the ability to commune with other biological and synthetic lifeforms and to use this for a number of purposes.

Communion for the Praetorians is a part of life and normal existence. With as little as a touch of their skin to that of another lifeform they can initiate a link. These links are often used to share information, divine intentions, reveal feelings, share experiences, ect. But communion can also be much more than that. They are capable of merging, of melding with what they touch and assimilating or altering it. Often this is used for the rare medical condition that requires outside intervention, or to assess the damage to something. But it can also be used to harvest biomass from another source and directly incorporate it into the body, or other less pleasant things. On the whole the biomass harvesting is incredibly rare and used only as a last resort for survival in most cases, and typically communion is a way of reinforcing closeness or bonding.

Aurelia's unique power is her ability to interface directly with the matter around her. This ability allows her to with concentration and focus shape the world around her. Air can solidify to form walls, metal can warp and reshape, the building blocks of the universe answer to her. At least within a relatively short range and to a certain degree. Aurelia can only retain control of and alter things within approximately 100 yards of her, though something once altered or created by her will behave naturally until it has run its course or been destroyed. With her particular ability as one of the most talented shapers among the Praetorians she is uniquely suited to create the necessary components for the gateway device assuming she can amass the raw materials required. Aurelia also cannot break the laws of physics. Though considering her vastly superior understanding of physics, some of what she does may seem supernatural or magical to others.

Attributes (Select one at each category):

Strength Level: Naturally she could pick up a car and throw it assuming she was sheathed, with technology augmenting her or some form of device quite a lot more. (Notably she is substantially stronger than the average Praetorian)

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Reaction time is fast enough to allow her to process and react to the strikes of even metahumans such as Icon. How much of this is training and how much is inherent is at this point uncertain.

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: Aurelia can courtesy of her training and the nature of her people function at maximum efficiency for a period of 6 or 7 hours. Notably as using her technology does not drain her noticeably, should she not be forced to use her ability to interface she could function at maximum efficiency for even longer.

Agility: 5X

Intelligence: Genius, while her intelligence is moderate by the standards of her people, by the standards of this world she would be considered a genius

Fighting Skill: Mastered

Resources: Minimal (Currently, this is subject to change)

Weaknesses: Like all Praetorians Aurelia's core body is fragile and can be damaged more easily than a humans, further her power's limited range can often come into play as well. Aside from that she has no obvious weaknesses.

The dockside security station was filled with the scents of smoke and sweat. Technically they weren't supposed to be smoking inside, but with it still being cold, no one made an issue of it. The group of three men in rather shabby uniforms were huddled around a table in the middle of the room, not really watching the screens, instead their attention seemed to be much more focused on the game taking place in on the table.

“Alright, show the hands.” One of them said at last and dropped his own. A pair of jacks was revealed as he did so.

The man across from him however dropped his as well. “Hah.” And his dropping revealed a hand with three aces. “I win.” And he began to reach for the money.

Before he could do so though the last man put his down showing something amusing, 4 twos.
“Now that's some bull-” The second man began before he was cut off as the office began to shake and a sudden wind whipped cold air through the half open windows.

It was about to be dismissed as some strange thing, like so much of what happened in Lost Haven but before the attention could turn back to the game there was an intense cracking sound as what looked almost like a tendril of blue lightning erupted in thin air outside. All three men were drawn to the window, looking out at the sudden lightshow.

The effects did not stop, instead growing more frequent and intense as pulses of the blue energy erupted from thin air to strike the ground and in some cases began to swirl around themselves in the air. Eventually they seemed to form what was almost a pool of sparkling and crackling energy in the air. Then something, it was difficult to see what, slipped through portal, crackling energy and sparks clinging to it as it landed on the ground outside.

The swirling nexus of energy then disappeared as quickly as it had appeared, leaving the men looking at each other.

“Was that a metahuman?” One of them asked the others

“I don't know.”

“We should call the police.” The first offered again and actually moved around the office, over to the phone.

Then the third man spoke. “Whatever it is, its moving and it doesn't look good.”

In a perhaps surprising display of decency the two men who were not on the phone left the security station and approached the site of the of the lightshow. One of them carried a flashlight and he turned it on. The light stretched out, illuminating the scorched earth where the bolt of energy had struck, and something else as well.

It was difficult for the men to be sure what they were looking at, it was horribly burned, with what seemed to be a bluish black fluid dripping from the worst of the burns. But as they approached it looked more and more humanoid. And then it raised its head and spoke, “…… …..” <Help me.> That the head didn't look quite right, with additional growths and such didn't matter so much in the face of what was clearly a voice, a quite human sounding one even if one they didn't understand

And as the men drew near and reached out the thing moved suddenly in a way that belied how damaged it looked to be. A hand closed around the arm of each of the two men and there was an instant of warmth as the touch seemed to burn their skin and meld with it. And then there was only oblivion for them.

It would be a moment later that the man who had stayed inside to call the police emerged, both to inform his fellows that the call was finished and to investigate for himself, and he was to find an unexpected sight. His two fellows slumped upon the ground withered looking, though there were still plumes of visible vapor rising from their mouths in the cold, and standing above them what looked to be some sort of woman.

She was badly burned and much of her was hidden in the darkness but he could see she wasn't normal. The long white things attached to her head and arms were a give away, as was the faintly luminous orange eyes that illuminated a bit of her face. At the sight the man, in the wake of what he had seen opened his mouth as if to scream, only to find that something was blocking him, muffling his attempts to speak, something that also had wrapped around him, making it impossible to move aside from his head.

And the woman began to walk towards him, speaking as she did so. “…… … ...” <Do not struggle and you will live> It was clear that she expected some form of response but the man had no idea what and shook his head. She seemed puzzled by this and paused, speaking again, in words that still were not recognizable but sounded markedly different from the first. “------ ----- ----” <Do you speak -----?> And again the man shook his head.

In the end it made no difference as with a frown the woman reached out with a pale bluish silver hand and as their skin touched there was the feeling of heat and then oblivion.

------

Amid the scorch marks that the energy left behind a figure stood. Now coated almost entirely in a gleaming white layer of what looked almost like porcelain, though with her head still exposed, and with a layer of what was presumably clothing that bore an odd mix of qualities, seemingly armored and dress like at once.

The growths that had been noticeable to the men before were not visible now, rather a series of spines seemed to float in the air around her, forming an odd corona of sorts that stretched loosely from one shoulder, up over her head and down to the other. There was an expression that looked an awful lot like confusion on her face as the white layer finished spreading and covered her face, forming into a perfect copy over the silver skin that lay below.

But whatever it was that had led to the look of confusion clearly was not about to slow her down as she stepped upwards, seemingly into thin air and then rose, accelerating through the air away from the sight of her appearance.

----------

And when the police arrived they would find the men in the checkpoint, moved as close to the heater as possible and with a piece of paper on which was written fine and precise text, that sadly they could not read, though an oddly familiar set of numbers.

Character you have created: Elaine Ward

Alias: _____

Speech Color:

Character Alignment: Villain

Identity: Secret

Character Personality: There are many types of people in this world, and many that you would expect to see make the decision to adopt a life of villainy. Elaine is not really one of those people. She does not have a particularly forceful personality, or the driving will that is so common there. She is rather indecisive, and prone to second guessing herself. She actually is quite intelligent and her plans tend to be well put together, but her own lack of confidence has been one of her biggest enemies in her life so far and it only stands to reason that it will continue to be problematic for her in costume as well. Elaine is also at times almost painfully shy. Now these together do not seem to make a super-villain, but anyone can be pushed to the edge and the feeling that you are against a wall is a pretty good motivator. Her life is falling apart around her and she sees this as the only way.

Uniform/costume:
Elaine is of roughly average size and has a rather slight build. She stands 5'6 tall, and weighs in about 120 pounds. Her hair is almost pure white in color, as is her skin, and her eyes are a pale blue that almost seem to lack any color whatsoever. She is badly nearsighted and so wears a thick pair of glasses nearly all of the time. Her hair is long and she doesn't normally style it much.

At the moment Elaine's 'costume' is rather pitiful, though it will not be pitiful for long. Currently it is composed of several several winter scarves wrapped around her head and face, an old surplus grey trench coat that she bought from a used clothing store, winter gloves, and heavy grey pants. Her hair is bundled up inside of the scarves so that it can't be grabbed and pulled on and her glasses make it so that her eyes at least always have to be somewhat free. Due to her current lack of intentions to pursue a life of crime and her current goal of using her powers in this way only the once to get money she hasn't exactly invested heavily in the costume.

Her first real costume will detailed here when she has it.

Origin Info/Details: There really isn't all that much of a story to tell in regards to Elaine's origin story, likely because so little of her story has actually been told thus far, after all she is yet to actually use her powers in more than an idle fashion. Still there are some things to discuss. Elaine was born approximately 22 years ago to a lower middle class family. She was the third child and the lower middle class bracket for her family while somewhat comfortable was not really a safety net.

School was not a particularly pleasant experience for her as she did have a rather distinctive look, and that paired with her intelligence and awkwardness with the other people helped contribute to a lack of friends and a tendency to be picked on. Despite the difficulties she managed to do well and escaped into college, leaving her family behind and moving to a place where no one knew her. Of course things really didn't go the way she had planned. There was no true fresh start and she had difficulties at her new home as well.

Still she did alright for herself, making it through her first year and a half without failing out. It was a few months ago that disaster struck. Her mother and father died in a car accident, and while she was never close to them, they had been paying most of the bills. They left little behind and her ability to pay for her education rapidly vanished. While she was able to scrape up enough to pay for the semester that has already started, all the other bills are coming up and she has no real answer to them.

Hero Type (Select one):
Other

Power Level (Select one below):
Street to City at this point, could become world eventually.

Powers:
Elaine has the power to animate inanimate objects at a touch and shape them into temporarily animate constructs that serve her will. Her power only applies through direct physical contact with her skin, and is most often channeled through her hands though it could theoretically be channeled through any other part of her as well. Her constructs can possess powers of their own, though typically only simple ones that relate to the shapes that they take. A construct that resembles a dragon for example could feasibly have the ability to breath fire or fly. She has control over the process of formation and when she initially creates something the resulting creation is based on a mental blueprint. The more time she has had to perfect the mental blueprint the better build the construct will be. She can store the blueprints in her mind and can create without one, but creations made up on the spot tend to decay very quickly and have glaring flaws. Finally the larger a construct is the shorter the period of time that it will last as a rule. Returning to physical contact with her keeps a construct from decaying and renews its lifespan.

She was nervous. That really wasn't a surprise considering what she was about to be doing, but nonetheless the nerves were getting to her. She had tried to make sure she was prepared, finding out the route that the truck would be taking, planning out what she would need to animate to succeed. But it wasn't going the way she had planned already. Elaine had figured out the route, and timed the truck several times to make sure she knew exactly when the vehicle would be coming, but it was late now and she was growing concerned. And the layers of scarves wrapped around her face were itching something fierce. A slim hand, clad in a winter glove rose up to fiddle with the scarves, trying to make them itch less as she fidgeted.

The alleyway also stunk, it was too cold to be standing out here, she was already going to have a hard time finishing the paper that was due in a couple of days, and now the truck was late. There were a lot of reasons to abort but the young woman stayed in the alleyway, peering out around the corner periodically through her thick glasses as she waited. There were a lot of reasons to abort, but they were trumped by the simple fact that she needed the money.

Eventually the gleam of headlights and the silhouette of a large vehicle came into view and Elaine knew this had to be it. She took of her gloves off, wincing as the cold bit into her and slipped her pale hands into two of her coat's pockets to grab at two of fist sized metal spheres she had in them. Then with a brief moment of concentration the metal in her hands began to shudder and shift. She stepped out from the alleyway and threw the pair of spheres in the direction of the oncoming truck.

If this didn't work she wasn't going to have very long to regret it. The young woman dropped to her knees, and for a second she panicked as thoughts of failure flashed through her mind obscuring her mental image of what she needed. Her hands touched the ground and she forced an image to form as the ground began to ripple outwards from her hands.

At the same time the spheres she had thrown continued to shift, both morphing into strangely insect-like creatures of metal. At their front ends were hard points like battering rams, their backs included metal wings that buzzed and whirred as they propelled the creatures forwards into the vehicle. As they struck the front windshield the bulletproof glass shattered and the creatures almost instantly positioned themselves, razor sharp limbs pressing against the throats of the men who were supposed to keep the truck secure.

It was a few seconds later, and with not much time left to spare that the ground heaved upwards in front of the truck, briefly seeming to form into a shape not unlike a giant hand of concrete and asphalt, a hand that stopped the truck in a crash and scream of tormented metal before shattering itself. The two men in the front of the truck were not fit to do anything, and even if they had been the pair of bug like creatures were still in position.

Elaine scrambled back up to her feet, rubbing her hands together from the cold as she called out in a voice she was trying to keep from sounding too much like her normal one. "Don't move and you will be fine. I only want the money."

With that said the girl in the makeshift costume of scarves and a coat hurried around to the back of the truck and withdrawing a third metal sphere concentrated again. The sphere reshaped itself in moments, forming another creature, this one lacking wings, but with a series of long legs and a single large center of mass. She held it up to the door and the legs hooked onto it as the creature began to scuttle along the doorway, a bright beam of light blasting forth in a precise stream as it did so, cutting through the door bit by bit.

She had never thought this would go so well. She'd nearly fucked up horribly, forgetting the design she had planned to stop the truck, but everything else was working.
Potential interest here as well
@Arawak There were three Supreme Hordelord invasions of the Empire before our time. The first was in the time of the Emperor, the second was in about 1000 IE, and the third can easily have been around 400 years ago.

There were also a decent number of smaller Hordelord incursions. The Culling force couldn't stop them all afterall, especially in the more recent years as the Culling Force grew weaker.
On the subject of establishing a history the Empire's encounter with an earlier Supreme Hordelord came pretty early on in the Empire's existence as the original Emperor was still around.
Well I've been having trouble figuring out a good name for it. That's something my sheet indicates, (name incoming) and all lol
Well if you want to be someone who would specifically be hated by the hordes, perhaps your branch had a period of time during which it oversaw the culling forces? Just a thought. The main base for the culling forces was destroyed but they really hate that part of the empire. lol
