pls don't.
When you're GMing, what is the best way to approach someone with a character that is too cliche? For instance, if someone has a Drama King/Drama Queen character, a character with an overly-tragic backstory, or a character whose personality or past does not make any sense. This has always been a problem for me whenever I organize group roleplays, and I'd love to have a quality casual role-play without bad writing skills and all of the common tropes that make characters almost unbelievable. Any advice?

Thanks!
Ah, I suppose.

Sorry, it's just a little hard for me to grasp having anger issues myself. ^^" I hope you understand.
Alright, here is some important information I left out about the social state and culture of Dayaman:
  • Families are very close-knit; more often than not they take care of the children of other family members, and there is a strong, traditional sense of familial honor and respect.
  • Most families love their children, especially the most religious of the families, but some families can be a little reckless with the children. Nevertheless, most parents care for their young, for it is taboo to not take care of them.
  • The common religion in Dayaman was given to them by Gorudo missionaries in 716 EG, and this religion is known throughout the world as Erdoni. The deities in the religion smite the wicked, and there are no evil gods in the religion. This affected Dayaman culture by ingraining a strong sense of hospitality towards all, otherwise they believed they would receive terrible punishment in the afterlife for their misdeeds.

As far as dates go, this roleplay is set to take place in the year 725 EG, just in the middle of the slow recovery effort.

And I have some issues with the sheets that have already been submitted. I need you to tone down the tragic back-story trope just a little bit to make things feel a little more humanely realistic.

For Enalais, the treatment of Jacen by the people of the temple strongly depends on which temple of which religion it was. In at least one or two of the religions of Himaya, that act of mockery is considered heresy.

BlackCat, I don't really understand how going off on walks and being around children could cause someone's personality to worsen, could you elaborate?

Other than that, I think I can go off with accepting everyone, as long as clear-cut cliches have been avoided. Your characters have been dutifully added to the roster. ┐(´∇`)┌
Thank goodness, Canti said nothing to threaten the half-elf's job. "Well, um, I wouldn't say that..." He cut into Wallace's first remarks. Gareth too turned to face the other way, prepared to leave, and he kept his mouth shut again until Wallace finished speaking. "Ah, I do believe you are correct..." Harker's face struggled but managed a smile, but Gareth's eyes were downcast and avoidant as ever. "I feel intrusive asking this, do tell if I step on your toes, but... why did he lock up Miss Tatchet? And... how do you feel about him, just in general?" He saw through a lot of what Thomas did then, but of course he'd be a fool if he hadn't. Sir Morgan literally stated the obvious and made an excuse that meant nothing to Gareth because it was so broad and fell short of the real reason. Worse yet, he felt a little targeted by Thomas's clear gazes laid directly at him, ones he tried to avoid as much as possible but ones he noticed nevertheless.
Gareth inwardly grimaced as Wallace stopped Thomas, nervousness accruing within the half-elf as he spotted the ugly turn their conversation could take if Wallace didn't measure his actions carefully. This stopped Gareth in his tracks while he was just about to walk off, his feet pointing in the other way, but his body slowly turning as Wallace uttered his statements. He cursed under his hushed breath without letting the other two hear him. The only person other than the sender to know of what was in Feril's package would be the King, and, come to think of it, the postmaster as well if he inspected the package. But did Feril complete the delivery, or some other person? So much thinking in a short time span hurt Harker's head, but nevertheless he continued to mull over everything in his head, his mind becoming a slew of drifting information in a garbage-filled sea of thoughts.
Gareth nodded. "Yes, I have," He said, bowing at his hips to Thomas. "And what Mister Canti says is true." In truth, Harker didn't see any type of questioning arise around his accompanying Wallace, since it was apart of his own character to help others when it is asked of him and when it is right. He watched the facial exchanges of the two men by him, and he took careful note of Wallace's seemingly giddy demeanor, suggesting some sort of satisfaction with finding Thomas here when Canti did. Gareth found Sir Morgan's voice honeyed, detecting a hint of brown-nosing and a smudge of honest officiousness. Harker saw it fit to only speak when he was spoken to then, and to only answer questions and not ask them.
Rainmaker said Hi, i'll just show my interest really quick, but I have a question - I like your description of the world and it's history, but just from that you can really take it a lot of ways - you could have an RP based on intrigue, or just characters trying to stop a war / fighting in a war, and so on - I was just curious if you already had something figured out concerning plot and the such.

The plot of this roleplay will be driven, in most part, by the users. I will, of course, provide some direction, but the events in the story are primarily in the hands of the players and their characters. As such, I intend to also roleplay with everyone else and add to the plot as we go along, therefore I won't plot ahead except for in the near-future.
Gareth obediently followed behind, uttering no words to Sir Hoyt beyond a quick bow. Wallace's assumption was correct—a lot of the reasons for killing Redwyne had some motivation rooted in the Order and a possible power struggle. No doubt, Thomas was at the top of the list being next in line to become commander, and it was flat-out advantageous for Sir Morgan who achieved a higher position as a result of Redwyne's death. But oddly enough, Sir Morgan had yet to say anything lamenting the late Morningstar, and Harker didn't hear anyone else say anything sorrowful about Redwyne beyond himself and Walden. Gareth simply nodded when Wallace nodded to the half-elf's new occupation as a squire. "I am planning on it. I need to continue on it anyway," he stifled a chuckle. "I need the income, and Sir Walden wants me to be another set of eyes for him."
Gareth frowned at the mention of the name, but he quickly changed his facial expression knowing Hoyt could possibly notice. From Wallace's words, Harker sensed not only a potential mutual dislike for Thomas, but also a capitulation to Sir Jason. In his mind, he pictured the white flags going up and inwardly sighed, for he picked up that they weren't going to go anywhere with Sir Hoyt, not now at least. But then, Gareth was in the midst of recalling how much he didn't really like Thomas and how much he questioned Thomas's position. He wondered then about what exactly were the contents of the letters. One was probably from Canti himself, however the other letter was from the council, likely an explanation of the position among other orders and procedures.
