"Mhm." Gareth nodded along. Jezin was correct, and the half-elf was particularly enthused to see that Tremora wasn't particularly sided with anyone either, except for Sophia. It meant that he had another group of neutral people, people with no prior involvement whom the factions of the castle also fought over. "There is a war for our alliances. Defend yourselves. We need, however, to keep each other up-to-speed with information. I notion that we be each other's eyes around the castle for the time being. If we have our own set of informants, we can secure ourselves more safety." His concerns, by then, were primarily of ensuring at least the group's own security, and they weren't particularly misplaced concerns, for in such a grave time, protecting the good that was left was necessary. Sophia was of prime importance to the group, of course, given that the danger she was in jeopardized the stability of it all.
Gareth found that ridiculous. A regent is literally the person in control of the state; Wallace couldn't seize what he already had. "Does he even have the slightest clue of what the term regent means?" In the safety of that room, where no other eyes nor ears could convene, it was safe to talk about pressing matters. For nobody would suspect them of being there, neither the Order nor the state nor the unseen black hand acting on events, and nobody would be capable of hearing them or finding them for the time being, what with the chaos outside. "I propose Wallace's message was a warning of something else, but it was not something Wallace had anything to do with." If they successfully arrested Wallace, then he could not be the real danger, for the real danger would not give in to arrest so easily. "The Order is not looking in the right corners... Those two, Wallace and Thomas, have a feud between themselves that has transpired into a weakness for the entire kingdom, I suspect." Gareth wasn't telling any lie, he was giving some of his best insights and conjectures then. The third party was moving, and Harker knew it—Jezin was correct, for they were indeed dealing with something larger than they knew.
Boopity boopity the waitress wants your order.
Gareth hurriedly unlocked the door and ushered the small group inside, the door slammed shut behind them and locked. He wasn't taking any chances, so the door had to be locked and shut. Intrusion would require kicking the door, burning it, or using the key. Harker sat against the wall around the corner from the corridor into the room, where he couldn't be seen by those entering, but could act quickly. "Sophia, dear, sit next to me." He patted the floor next to him. Huddled in places obstructed from whoever looked through the door would be most ideal for the quartet gathered in Gareth's quarters. "Does anyone have any idea of what's going on? Jezin, where were you?"
"Yes, sir!" Submissively he accepted the duty, although in reality he wouldn't ever turn it down. Gareth from his back drew his bow with a fresh arrow, and taking a free hand off of it, took the lead of the group, his hand gesturing for them to follow as he began to run off. "I want to find Wallace during all of this, but I cannot abandon you both." Now with an objective on hand and a plan forming in his mind, he spoke with a little more urgency and panic to get the group to safety. "We are not going back to your quarters. If someone is after Sophia, we need to go somewhere they won't expect. Come with me to my own quarters." Harker frowned at the prospect that Jezin wouldn't be fighting with a weapon he was used to, but Gareth himself would be wielding a bow, one of few people in the city capable of ranged combat, despite never seeing it in practice against another man. Off he went in the direction of his room, hoping the group would be in tow.
"I don't know!" The fiasco knocked the boy off his footing, tearing him from all sense of security entirely, and Gareth panicked, blue eyes instinctively darting around the room to try and get a grip of the situation and determine the next course of action. The room seemed to turn into a slew of quick and fearful reactions among the remaining parties there, and Harker was one of few who were unresponsive. Yes, he had a room to return to, but he didn't know if it was safe, he didn't know where he needed to be in such a situation. Would Walden know? Being dependent on others was nothing new to him, but with Walden, a person who he saw himself frequently looking to for help or advice, was absent from the room.
A keen set of ears heard the bell hanging over the door, and a disembodied voice replied to the bell's jingle, as if on cue, "Hello, boys, welcome to the Salted Chicken! What can I do you for?" A short blonde broad with green eyes like emerald gems and a honeyed tone like a mother's called at the crew as she trod over with a skip in her step. The waitress, Lyria Blutwald, was a Dorthan, and although she lacked the horns, her height certainly implied Thantori ancestry, being only four feet and eleven inches tall. One could assume from her appearance though that she had at least 20 years on her body. A small scratch pad and a pen were in her hands, ready to take orders.
Gareth frowned. "Goodbye, Wallace." He reiterated to Sophia. "No, Sophia, something will happen. We are in grave danger." As if on point, the word 'danger' seemed to trigger a ringing of bells from outside the castle, and Gareth's calm, yet upset demeanor collapsed into an alert, the ringing of the bells resounding through his head. "What's going on?" His voice shook with mixed confusion and terror, a chaos that indicated something was going wrong. These were not the bells used to indicate a new day, or the bells used on special occasions, these were the bells of peril, which rang from the top of the Tower of the Thistle. Harker had never heard them before, but their deep, foreboding tones and low pitch solved his questions about their purpose almost immediately. He needed to find Sir Walden and get information on what was going on, Sophia wouldn't know; however, he wasn't leaving until Jezin arrived to take Sophia to safety.
"The Most Popular Knights in the Order."
I don't mean it like that, I mean the way he talks about Wallace reminds me of Hitler talking about Jews during World War II.
