Gareth fired one last shot, before he looked down at the women. "We're on the ground floor, Sophia," he whispered. "Where we run afterwards I know not, all I can say is we need to run." Harker grabbed Sophia by the hand and pulled her to her feet. "Come with me." His eyes gazed about, finding that through the door would not be their safest option. They had to go elsewhere, and his questions about escape were answered when he locked eyes with the window. Swiftly he charged at the thin window pane, and with a jump backwards and a tuck in, he rolled through, hearing the shattering of glass and breaking of wood and feeling shards cut his face in some places.
Maybe that was the enemy's plan. :P Send out a double to trick them into going to the keep, and if that fails, force them.
DrowsyPangolin said But how do we know the other Walden is the real one?

Because I believe earlier we read about where he went at the time of the bell of the Thistle.
And, if it were Sir Walden, he'd be in the company of the other 3 knights, not just alone. I doubt they'd let him disobey Thomas's orders, and it doesn't seem like they've been carried out yet.
"Sir Walden, I want you to take Sir Issac, Sir Bull, and Sir Sven and go to the King. Relieve the Palace Guard from their defensive duties, and have them sent here, to guard Wallace's study."

He wouldn't say that if Walden were missing. But if that's in a different time frame, it'd look like sheer anachronism and an incongruent stretch of time to the one that Gareth and co. are in. And if it's in the same timeframe, Walden can't be in two places at the same time.

I'm not at denial, but that's literally what it looks like from a registered timeline of events that I've put together from what it says.
Gareth squinted his eyes as they broke the lie. It wasn't Thomas's word. But Harker highly doubted Walden would actually go against Thomas's word however wrong it was, given the conversation they had earlier. His eyes almost bulged with surprise at the sight of the sword through the chest, but this time, he held his composure, telling himself to calm down and that it wasn't really Walden who died. Almost immediately at the sight of the other man, Gareth loosed his arrow into the man's head, with such tension held in the momentum of the arrowhead, that if it were to hit, the man would likely die of a shot through the eye. And after that, through the corner of his eye, he spotted Jezin's charge.
It's okay, that's the Walden-double. He's alive still.
"This doesn't feel right. Are you really Walden?" Gareth was now questioning the man. Anything was possible. Sophia was in danger, and the enemy could be doing anything they could to get their hands on her. "Walden should be wherever the rest of the Order is." Jezin was right, it didn't seem like Thomas would order them to go to Bernard's Holdfast, and moreover, a secluded location without anybody that could help them seemed suspicious. His voice turned venomous and questioning. This didn't feel like the Walden he trusted, and a sinking premonition in his heart nagged at him.
To be fair though, I really hate the nickname Rae. Just. On a serious level it irritates me. ;/
Sightles said You don't want to mess with Double C and his crew, Rae.

You're really making me exasperated, Sigh.
Sightles said You take that back!

Make me.
