This all looks very interesting. Might I join ? I was going to wait for other characters to pop up before I decide what type to make-
World War One Troop Counts Just to put things in perspective...
Gonna give this a lil' bump to see if we can scare up more interest, if not it's going on the shelf.

Oh and I'm considering closing this for NSs very soon. Thoughts?

Shut it down now. Open it back up when the eventual drop-outs occur.

Okay, this is a different idea and I like it a lot. We're using that 1890-1937 period? Everyone should write in that style, then. Also, is the idea to build our own mythos? I would greatly prefer that to suborning Lovecraftian stuff.

Couldn't have said it better myself-building a universe filled with all sorts of weirdness would be the main fun in it I think. Lovecraft should just be an inspiration...the settings tone. As for the timeline your main character should live in that era. Any flashbacks or flash forwards can be outside that time.

This is very interesting. If I am not too bogged down when it comes around I will definitely join. I had been having a similar idea a while ago, so this shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks for your interest!
Wow. So many new countries. I have no idea who is what now. What's the deadline for finishing Nation Sheets?

I'm up for dropping everyone down to 1 region. The population thing seems largely arbitrary because this is a numbers-less RP. Also, welcome to all the new players
Hi. I saw something similar to this on another forum-basically the players take the role of Professionals in various fields of pseudo-science and explain experiments, phenomena and overall weird happenings in a series of letters to one another. If a more intense action sequence is required, maybe switching to a narrative would be allowed. Anyways, look to weird fiction for the tone; as H.P. Lovecraft puts it:

The true weird tale has something more than secret murder, bloody bones, or a sheeted form clanking chains according to rule. A certain atmosphere of breathless and unexplainable dread of outer, unknown forces must be present; and there must be a hint, expressed with a seriousness and portentousness becoming its subject, of that most terrible conception of the human brain--a malign and particular suspension or defeat of those fixed laws of Nature which are our only safeguard against the assaults of chaos and the daemons of unplumbed space.

Well said sir.

I think 4-6 dedicated players would work. Players are required to have one main character but may make up and write in character any number of characters, as long as they maintain continuity. The primary character should be some sort of professional scholar, scientist, professor etc. Secondary characters can be anyone that fits into the years 1890-1937. Flashbacks are encouraged.

The correspondence should form the core ethos of the RP but it shouldn't be the limit. Maybe discovered documents? Garbled radio transmissions? Weird artifacts with deciphered writing? The important thing is to keep it on track-storylines could be solidified in OOC, with players saying what they plan on doing in the next few posts.

So, some tentative rules:
1. Standard forum rules. No godmode. No killing of other PCs without permission etc.
2. Tone/standards of writing must be maintained.
3.Keep it on track. If a player introduces an idea/concept/thing/artifact whatever in a post, acknowledge it, and try to incorporate it into your next posts and in doing so, the setting at large. Continuity and verisimilitude are key.
4. GM has final word.

Ok, discuss!

Serpentine88 said -Humans (Kurskan): The distant southern cousins of the Osralanders and people originally of the Hellspire Ranges. A small minority of Kurskans live in the southern regions of the Empire, however their heathen faith makes them ostracized by the Osralander and Panceanian neighbours. The Iron Federation to the south also makes racial issues problematic as the Empire suspects the Federation may attempt to use the minority as an excuse to invade.

Uh. Oh.
