Time to go on a horror movie binge.

Seems like I need to replace my phone. I never know how much not being able to check the time bothered me until I started walking around the school campus without my phone.

So today my phone fell in water. It was there for no more than two seconds tops, but it's going haywire. Time to see if the old rice trick works.

Sophia smiled gently at Tim's failed attempt to try to use the nickname. "It's alright," she assured him gently. "You can use the nickname. I don't mind. But you don't have to force yourself to either."

Standing up, she took some time to stretch before relaxing again. "I think going to the library today would be a good idea," she agreed. "Perhaps first though we should change clothes. Or maybe you should, at least. Though I would like to wash my face, if that's alright." After working in the cafe all day Sophia's face was greasy from sweat and various things that had managed to get on her face. It was beginning to bother her.

"Hm..." Sophia hummed in thought. They could go back to cleaning, or they could watch something. As she tried to decide what they should do, Sophia occasionally felt her attention slipping back to Tim himself. She liked him calling her by a nickname even if it was one others before him had used. He was cute when he was embarrassed and flustered, but at the same time Sophia wondered what it would be like if he was more assertive and vocal. Just more confident in general.

She thought of how shook up he had been over the morning's incident. Sophia was sure that Tim wanted to be more confident and less afraid too. But that thought connected her to another, one that they had kind of neglected recently.

"We should go to the library soon," she said, straightening up. "See if we can't find anything related to those portals, or even the runes. We can always check local lore, but it's a possibility that whatever is happening isn't a singular event. If that's the case we could check other lore books too, or books on supernatural phenomenon."

Hearing that Tim felt better made Sophia extremely happy. She smiled brightly, her whole countenance cheery. "I'm glad!" She chirruped. "I know you had a rough morning. It's good for you to finally get some rest."

Secretly Sophia hoped that maybe it was her presence that had allowed Tim to get some rest. She really liked being a source of comfort to others. It made her feel useful. In truth, Sophia really hoped that she would be able to help Tim be happier and more relaxed in general if she was around. Maybe it was a selfish want to be the one to help him open up, but it was still what she wanted.

Suddenly Sophia tried to imagine any other girl sitting in Tim's apartment, on his couch, with his head in her lap as he slept. And she got really jealous. Her crush on Tim was quickly growing stronger, she realized, to her slight dismay.

"You called me 'Soph'," she commented with a smile as she tried to quickly bury those jealous feelings. "That's your first time calling me by a nickname. You can use it if you'd like. I don't mind."

Trying not to seem so tense, Sophia made herself relax although it took a bit of effort. Laughing at herself a bit she explained, "Sorry, I didn't realize I had fallen asleep. I guess I was just worn out and tired. Your couch was pretty comfy too."

She looked around the room a bit and wondered what to say next. They hadn't finished cleaning yet, but they could take care of that soon.

"Do you feel any better after getting some sleep?" Sophia asked with honest curiosity. She really hoped he did. After what he had dealt with he deserved it.
I'll post tomorrow. I just finished moving and only have internet on my phone.
"I'm the district manager at one of the local Waffle Houses," Brandon said, his eyes scanning the street and houses for any threat. In one window he saw a Walker banging at the window. It appeared to be stuck in the house, but Brandon didn't want to take any chances and he ushered the group to move a bit more quickly to get away from the area.

"I work there," Lydia added as she looked over her shoulder at the two. "Waitress, host, cook, you name it. I even do inventory and place orders."

Brandon grinned as he said, "Lydia's one of my best workers. I can count on her for everything." The praise caused Lydia to beam proudly as she was happy to hear that she was considered important in their work.

"We're friends outside of work as well," Brandon went on. Then suddenly realizing that Francis might take it the wrong way he quickly added, "Strictly friends."

"We like the same things," Lydia explained as she shift Peter to her other side. "Video games, renaissance fairs, weapons. It's definitely a good thing for the last two right now. We were at a renaissance fair earlier today, which is why we had our bows and knives in the car."
Lydia smiled a bit at Francis' words, him and Pete being like royalty. Francis seemed like a good man and she and Brandon had already taken a liking to him. If he was any good with a weapon than his skills would be a great addition to the group. Even if he wasn't that good in a fight they wouldn't just leave him. It seemed like the world was already going to hell, but that didn't mean they had to lose their humanity and ability to be kind.

"Come here, little one," Lydia said as she took Peter from Francis. She held him cradled in one arm and tickled his stomach with her free hand, causing him to giggle. "You're certainly adorable, aren't you? I bet you're going to grow up handsome like your daddy." Having been around kids her whole life due to having a large family with lots of little cousins, Lydia was used to children and fell back into her usual way of associating with them.

As Brandon watched Lydia playing with Pete he couldn't help but smile a little bit. He let her have her moment, keeping watch as they went. Brandon fell back to walk alongside Francis and he asked, "So what line of work are you in, Francis?"

The sleeping Sophia let out a small noise of satisfaction before she shifted, curling up and turning sideways to lay on the couch. Her head now rest on the arm of the couch in the corner between it and the back. She buried her face in the corner before rubbing against the material for a moment, similar to a cat, before letting out a heavy sigh of contentment and curling further into herself, apparently still deep in sleep.

A moment later and...

Sophia sprung awake, surprised that she had fallen asleep. She sat straight up on the couch, her legs still tucked under her, and quickly looked around in confusion. After a moment the shock had worn off and Sophia relaxed again, only to realize that Tim was awake and sitting on the other end of the couch.

"Good morning," Sophia said a little stupidly, a blush coloring her cheeks at the thought of Tim having just seen her jumping like a crazy person. She would have been blushing worse if she knew what he had seen just a bit before she had woken up.
"I guess you're not from here," Lydia surmised from Francis' words. "Let's see... We have to continue following Lemoyne Boulevard down into D'Iberville, go through to get on I-110, follow that down to the beach, head West on Highway 90 until we get to Veteran's Avenue, follow that down to Pass Road where we turn right. Keesler is at the end of the road. So that's about...?" She turned and looked to Brandon, wondering if he knew.

"Seven miles," Brandon concluded. "If we're lucky we'll come across someone who will help us get there, but this area already looks pretty deserted so a majority of the Coast has probably been evacuated."

A thought struck Lydia and she informed them, "If there's no one in D'Iberville we can stop by the Meineke Repair Shop there and see if there isn't a car that's been left behind."

"It's close to the interstate so it's not out of our way," Brandon agreed. Turning to Francis he added, "Whenever you get tired of carrying Pete just let us know and we'll take turns holding him."
