"Didn't you post an interest check a week ago?"
No, I posted it six days ago. In the time between that thread and this one, I was suddenly hit with a crippling need for more plots and I remembered three that I wanted to share.
First things first:
- Dark for the sake of dark. We're not thirteen anymore; let's stop romanticizing violence and bastardizing the concept of mental illnesses. This is not to say that we can't tackle tough topics; but I ask we do it in an accurate and realistic manner. If a real person can't overcome the temptation to self-harm in years, then it's unlikely that a character can get over it the minute they lay eyes on an attractive stranger.
- Pedophilia, speaks for itself.
- Rape, speaks for itself.
- Smut, in most cases. It's not that I'm completely against the idea but it's difficult for me to write since I'm asexual. If the roleplay lasts long, I may warm up to the idea of sex but until then I'd rather fade out and avoid awkwardness.
- Roleplay over threads, PMs, emails and Skype.
- Research
- Play any gender and participate in any pairing combination (MxM, MxF, FxF, NBxNB, NBxF...The list goes on.)
- Change the plot for your sake if it gets difficult for you to handle.
- Be patient. I know not everyone can reply everyday, and I won't hold you accountable for it. However, if I don't hear from you in a month, I'll officially drop the thread. If you ever feel pressured or tired, just say so! I don't mind at all. My partner's well-being is my #1 priority.
- Talk, plan and socialize OOC. I oftentimes find that roleplays last longer if you're comfortable with the other writer, so I tend to be rather extroverted. I'm fine with dropping the professionalism two hours into meeting you.
Now for the actual plots:
Based off of: Tesis Sobre un Homicidio
Let’s kick things off with my favorite plot idea. Tesis Sobre un Homicidio is an Argentine thriller that revolves around a professor and a student. Don’t think dirty here, it’s not a story about an affair (though we can work that in to add extra layers of tension), but instead a murder mystery. The drama starts unfolding when the corpse of a young woman is found a few meters from the Faculty of Law around the time that the professor’s first seminar is about to take place. Determined to uncover the truth and convinced that the perpetrator is one of his students, He begins a personal investigation that soon becomes an obsession and inevitably creeps into his darkest desires.
I won’t describe the actual plot of the work much further for two reasons. Firstly, I don’t want to spoil it. Secondly, I also don’t want to to the exact same thing. After finishing it, I remember feeling like it would have worked better as a series, and I would love to turn it into a long-term RP with numerous twists and plotlines. It doesn’t really matter to me which character I get to play as so long as we’re doing something.
Based off of: Diarios de Motocicleta
Diarios de Motocicleta’s movie is an old favorite of mine, and I try to watch it once every few months. Personally, I’d really like to write a journey inspired (be it directly or indirectly) by the memoir. Don’t worry, we don’t necessarily have to touch on controversial political subjects. I’m fine with reducing the story to one of two idealists that leave everything to explore their continent. South America isn’t our only option either, I’d be just as happy to write about the European countryside, Asian cities and African landscapes. I envision it as the type of roleplay that is constantly moving and evolving, partly because of the fact that the constant change of scenery would invite a treasure trove of conflicts and happenings.
I should also note that there’s not a specific timeline for this one. It could be set anywhere from a few years after the work was published to decades into the future.
Based off of: Nothing is Real and Everything is Possible
I actually downloaded this book’s sample weeks ago but only now got around to reading it. It’s one of those cultural analysis books, the type that most people would skim over in a coffeehouse. I’m in love but unfortunately I have no cash. Since I may never get to read the entire thing, I’d like to make a plot out of some of my favorite parts. At one point in the book, the writer tells the story of Oliona, a recent graduate of “Gold Digger Academy” that is hunting for a rich man to marry. He goes on to describe the numerous tricks the woman has to capture the attention of men and the many tragedies that still await her. She’s fiercely cunning, but has self-awareness: She’s pushing twenty one and knows that eventually her sugar daddy will let her go, so she goes to clubs every night to find herself a new one while avoiding his bodyguards and underlings. what What was thinking was a plot centering around someone like Oliona and her target. Hell, it doesn’t even really matter to me if it’s not MxF. If we make it MxM or FxF, it’ll probably even be innovative.
Quick note: All of these ideas are fairly flexible and I'm cool with either character. My default writing style lends itself to somewhere between High Casual and Advanced, but I don't mind toning it down or up if that's your preference. Detailed:
[CHARACTER A] and [CHARACTER B] are half-sisters, sharing the same mother and upbringing. Neither of them ever met their fathers, partly because their mother would never allow it, and partly because neither appeared was curious enough to hunt them down. From a young age, they were tied at the hip, never going anywhere without the other. Their mother, a women far into her 40s by the time [CHARACTER B] was born, was a wealthy socialite that had amassed most of her wealth the old-fashioned way: conning everyone. However, eventually karma caught up with their mother,and she died suddenly of a heart attack on the eve of [CHARACTER A]’s 25th birthday. The loss shook [CHARACTER B] the hardest. She had once been a sunny girl, but the sudden passing of her only parent morphed her into an isolated and cold individual with a taste for the grim and the dark. In spite of that, she managed to marry. In her mind, she was marrying up. Her fiance was a rich and famous businessman with acres of land all over Europe and South America- Or so he claimed. More than a few skeletons came out of the closet during the honeymoon, the darkest of which was the fact that he was conning her. There was no real way out, and overnight the ring around her finger started to feel like a noose around her neck. [CHARACTER B] was then thrust headfirst into a tough situation. She could either had to divorce him and lose half of the money, or walk out with none at all. So she did the most logical thing she could think of: ring up her sibling and conspire to get rid of him.
In a world where humans have evolved superpowers, the lack of them is considered extraordinary. Humans start getting their powers at around middle school, and it’s not uncommon to see seventh graders flying high in the sky shooting lasers at each other in between classes. [CHARACTER A] was relegated to being a spectator to the fireworks. At first they were reassured that their powers would come in later—after all, some of the greatest and most powerful people got them quite late in life. [CHARACTER A] always had a gut-feeling that they would stay wistfully normal forever, but that didn't stop them from getting kicked in the stomach by the harsh reality that no one in history got powers after 21. [CHARACTER A] sought refuge in [CHARACTER B], an old childhood friend that also had never gotten their powers but was actually holding up quite well without them. They formed a bond that even the most rugged strongman couldn’t break. That was of course, until the day that [CHARACTER B] strolled up to their friend’s driveway singing the praises of a new drug —one that apparently gave people powers. [CHARACTER B] turned into a completely different person overnight. Their once reserved and understanding personality morphed into one loud, proud and domineering. [CHARACTER B] pressures [CHARACTER A] into trying the drug, and [CHARACTER A] is then made to answer a question they never thought they would have to answer. Is power worth the price?
[CHARACTER A] and [CHARACTER B] work side by side at a run-down gas station in the outskirts of town, ignoring each other to the point that they go weeks without so much as a hello.[CHARACTER A] is, to put it lightly, an asshole. Sarcastic, pessimistic and morbid are the only non-curse words that one can use to describe them. Luckily for them, a rude comment or two barely matters to people if you live in one of the murder capitals of the world. Meanwhile, [CHARACTER B] couldn't be more different. Raised in a tight-knit community, they are known for their kindness and faith in the world that surrounds them. The silence is broken on the night that [CHARACTER B] finds their dead boss in the dumpster, having no better idea than asking for [CHARACTER A] for advice on how to deal with the situation. Little do they know that they're being watched by numerous people—and that they're both next in line a coffin fitting.
*This particular plot can go quite a few ways, and I'd love to bring in a conspiracy or supernatural aspect to it.
Book-Inspired Plots:You don't need to have read the books to use any of these, by the way. I'm fine with giving you a crash course or just tweaking it to your liking.
I'd really like to write a psychological thriller revolving around a dysfunctional couple. I don't plan to blatantly plagiarize the book, but I do want to really dig into the dynamics of a failing long-term relationship built on lies and manipulation. I think this is the one plot where I would like to focus on just two characters—I'm open for picking up multiple ones in the others, but I think this one will involve a lot more planning and development.
This book is one of my guilty pleasures. I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know, but it's the type of fast-paced, unpredictable read that only comes up every few fifty books on Amazon. Basically, the book revolves around Sadie, an overworked, underpaid mess of a person who works shucking corn in a supermarket basement. One day, she decides she's tired of being abused and adopts an alter ego that allows her to kill indiscriminately. It's a fucked up book; I'm not gonna lie to you. However, I found her (albeit brief) flirtation with rehabilitation by way of therapy to be interesting, especially since for a while it seemed like her doctor was just as depraved as her. That's what I'd like to focus on for the purposes of this plot. There can be more characters, but I think it would be great if we wrote a story in which the doctor slowly realizes their own perversity as they explore their patient's.
After I jotted this down, I realized that I have few plots so there's a possibility I may update this or make a new thread in the future. Just a heads up.
