Absolutely astounded... Blown away. Received the best feedback on any writing piece I've ever done and I honestly have no words to express how good it feels to see the work pay off.

What if they are literally running into your sword and expect to live? How would you handle this as a player?

That's a very good point. In this instance, I would say PM either the person and let them know that they would, in every sense of the phrase, be run through by aforementioned blade. Or, on the other hand, I would tell a GM, and to be honest... They're asking for it. I mean, if they go "Oh, I see what... Okay, then... let's take a step back, is that okay?" And then you compromise a fix. I believe everybody whose character is in danger of death in the moment should at least be notified and given a chance to respond before posting the death, simply because it might just be a mistake and it could very easily be a mistake the character himself/herself would not make in real life.

Good point, Kestrel.

I've murdered several PC's without permission. Whenever a player drops there will be a gruesome death. I've also killed off characters who pretty much set their selves up for death, like running around town while suffering heavy bloodloss or directly charging towards city-sized monstrosities with nothing but a plain bastard sword. Would you have an issue with this?

Not at all, so long as you're a GM. I believe that, as lon gas the players are given warning, a GM can kill any character. For example, we'll go with any typical zombie RP, if you get bitten or you're losing blood or you simply just play a scene the wrong way and your character flubs up too much, then they will die. Simple as that, really. ^^ However, I would say in a PvP instance, killin a character isn't fair. I had an RP where a character was killed gruesomely... Except I loved it, because I volunteered his martyrdom, he jumped on a grenade.

As a non-bitch concerning GMs, I would have to say that Azseth is one of the best I've ever seen. XD I love joining his RPs, but sometimes they're a bit fast for me and he maintains a very high level of intricacy that sometimes I get too busy to spend time reading. XD
Everybody froze at the door to the boss room, Heathcliffe standing directly before it, giving the entire party a break in order to prepare themselves and their nerves for the other side of the door. Fitch found himself standing in the center of the crowd, as the others moved about, making sure their groups were all together and their equipment was battle-ready. He smiled tiredly as he spotted Kenshin consoling Alphard... They were such a fine pair; it was a wonder they weren't married yet, even in the game. "Are you sure you're okay?" A voice rang out near him and he shook his head, blinking.

"Of course," He said with a small nod as he looked at Yari, taking her hand. "Let's tell everybody at the party tonight," He suggested briskly.

The girl seemed entirely surprised at the suddenness of his proposal, "Oh... Uhm... W-well... Are you sure?" She asked, lowering her voice with a blush and a broad smile. "I mean... what about Suto?"

"I think it's worse not telling them... And... I want them to know..." He said positively.

Yari's face lit up as she nodded and wrapped her arms around his neck, "Then we'll tell them..." A few moments passed like that, the two holding one another as Fitch took a deep breath and let it out. They were going to be okay. All of them. "I'm so happy..."

The sword-and-shield user smiled, finally shaking that terrible feeling he'd had only minutes ago, "Me too... I love you, Mizuki," He stated, embracing her for several more seconds.

She blushed and nodded into his shoulder, "I love you too..."

Finally, they parted - Fitch was to join the other shield users toward the front and Yari was going to join the rest of the squads which came in after a blocked attack and small groups that focused on minions. The doors opened to a new, ornate room - it seemed to be full of black marble, but it was lit to the perfect degree of vision. Fitch looked around, scanning the others in the room, but Yari was well-concealed amongst the drove of other players. He sighed and pulled up his shield, ready as the entire force charged in and took up their positions.

First came the skeletons; they were a fairly basic minion, but they would occupy a fair number of players and Kenshin and Alphard took off with one another, a team of two tearing through the beasts one by one. However, mere moments after the group had entered, two massive flames burst forth at the base of the stairs leading ot the next floor and showed an absolutely massive two-headed giant. It's mouths seemed far too large for the heads; it appeared slow and a bit challenged, but there was no way to dispute that it would be formidable. Fitch swallowed hard and braced himself as the command was issued and the entire front line bolted forward, only to be met with powerful stomp. They were all thrown back and stunned, rendering them useless for several moments - including Fitch - which left only a select few shield-users and heavily armored players to take the swipe of the giant's blade. It was already absolute chaos and two players had been killed from the initial slash. The front line recovered as quickly as the system would allow and had prepared to avoid any kind of knock-back attack again. The battle seemed to go smoothly for the first two of five health bars. The monster was incredibly powerful, but it seemed to be rather lacking in abilities - it wasn't very dynamic, so the party was easily gaining confidence with each sliver of health they stole.

"Switch!!" Heathcliffe called out as the monster was stunned by a combined block. Yari and Nero had both charged forward together, Nero unleashing a six-hit Sword Skill before Yari followed. Close behind her was a group of five more players ready to hit with everything they had. Just as she finished her three-hit skill, the third health bar vanished and the weapons of her comrades flashed. Nero was gone moments after his attack was finished and Yari was just about able to move away when the beat materialized a second weapon in his free hand - which had originally been used for his knock-back attack. It was a massive hammer which, even at the boss' great size, should have required two hands to use. It came from over his head and slammed into the ground; had it been waiting for such a concentrated force to come before it, or was it a result of the health bar dropping? The game was usually so fair... So it was merely coincidence that they had all moved in to attack at the same time as he gained the weapon... In fact, everything lined up so perfectly in its favour that four players would watch as their health turned from green to yellow and nearly red... Two of them would be thrown back by the Area of Effect from the pound and any who saw them would see the health drain straight to empty.

Fitch cried out and threw himself forward, only to be grabbed by something and thrown to the ground, narrowly avoiding a slash from the giant's blade. Nero quickly scrambled off of the boy whose life he had just saved, though Fitch hadn't truly realized it as he forced himself up and forward. He pivoted as his feet kicked up dust for a couple of short feet before he fell to his knees.

The moment before he had gotten to her, he had heard that sound... Crystals shimmered around him for a few moments as the essence of Yari vanished. His hands hit the ground as he fell forward in disbelief, crouched over that empty spot on the ground... Where had she gone? She was here moments ago... She had looked to him, her eyes filled with tears; yet, she smiled, as though everything would be okay. He shook his head as roars erupted around him and the boss fight continued, but he felt none of it... He was trapped in what seemed to be an endless void, clouded with nothingness. The giant had started to ignore the isolated shield-and-sword user whose damage-output had dropped to zero, giving him the bottom priority of everybody in the room.
In a certain space of this post, I placed the song "Thousand Years" - Piano Guys' cover of it. It fit beautifully. This post is so meaningful to me because one of my friends had shown somebody at University this roleplay... and she actually cried when she read that post, I was a bit surprised, but it was nice to hear, I was very proud of it. It's also one of the most significant of the SAO-fandom based Roleplay because it causes Fitch, *my* main character, to absolutely lose his mind. It festers and he's currently becoming a murderous, easily manipulated fighter. He's ruthless and would murder his former best friend if he had any reason at all.

EDIT: This thread is a brilliant idea. <3

Their own character or another player's? If another player's that should be close to instant grounds for rp removal if they're unable to edit that crap.

I believe the latter, but killing anything but their own character without permission wouldn't be fair unless the guidelines stated they could in something like a zombie RP, where the enemies come in hordes and it would be too annoying to wait for permission on each kill.

My apologies, everybody, it seems that this has become less of a complaint thread and more of a turn-it-all-into-an-argument thread. Most of all, however, Prince, I'm sorry if I have ever wronged you in any way, for I did not realize that by Your Grace can we derive true Enlightenment. Your Omnipotence, I see now (for my eyes have been opened by that wisdom which can best any adversary) the error of my ways and I bow to your argument. For surely none other than the Prince of The Roleplaying Guild could ever be bested by a lowly pion such as myself. If only I had realized sooner that any perspective that is not yours is the wrong one... then perhaps I could have saved mine self the embarrassment of groveling at your gracious and forgiving feet. Yea, for it is written that "Mahz so loved the world that he gave his one and only son [Prince], that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16, The Holy RP Bible). Thanks to you, Prince, my cup runneth over... You make me to lie down in greener pastures... You are my shepherd, I am the lamb, and I shall follow your Word to the end of time until such a day that we may all be united in your loving embrace. You are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Prince, your lordship, and I shall forever worship you until the end of my days, now that I have seen the light. Your opinions and words are laws and we are but your loyal subjects, surely, and in your light we bask in the holy redemption... for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.

Amen.

I believe, personally, that while a balance can easily exist between GMs and Players, that the issue being discussed here isn't quite so cut-and-dry. GMs need the last say - somebody does, because Roleplays tend to be small groups and things need to be run harmoniously. For instance, I tend to run my roleplays as invite-only because I know a lot of people (people that I trust very much) who are interested in such fandoms and I know will passionately play along with them. I love to see the enthusiasm my players bring to the table. I also love to see new ideas displayed in a character, but when a thread is still in planning and is quite clearly labeled as closed, as a GM, it's quite aggravating to see somebody post a character with only the intention of making one and then completely 360 and claim that they have earned a place in that roleplay which was full long before their character was made. Furthermore, these roleplays tend to have queues because I don't like to push the limits on the number of people playing based on the different worlds.

These roleplays tend to open while they're still in progress because I like my invitees to make their own suggestions and start on their characters early. It also gives them a chance ot get to know each other and discuss how their characters are connected pre-roleplay. So, sometimes, the rules are a bit thin and have to be compromised as time goes on. I try very hard not to fully reject an idea that one proposes because i htink there's always an angle that can come from it. However, sometimes a compromise is required to make it actually fit the world that has been created.

As for an Iron Fist type of regime... I've never seen a GM run things that way. All GMs that I know, including myself, have at least 1-2 Co-GMs and definitely take into consideration what their friends and fellow players think of a situation. I also know fora fact that when I act out of line or am being unreasonable, my friends don't hesitate to tell me, which is why keeping a mostly-invite or closed RP is just a safe thing to do. Are there flaws in the system? Sure. But usually, I notice people making flaws where there are none. If only a single person in the thread thinks something is wrong, but the other six or seven see absolutely nothing wrong, then that one person doesn't get to have the power of the GM just because they disagree. It doesn't mean they're always wrong, but it also means that they have every right to leave, make their own Roleplay, or join another.

This all ties in to the reason that the "Roman Empire" metaphor becomes moot. Socrates was the first philosopher to make claim of the "Social Contract" - a duty that one has to their home country simply because they were born there. It does not mean you follow your government, it means you do what is best for your fellow people because oftentimes, especially in Ancient Rome, one could not easily abandon or leave their country, so it was everybody's job to ensure that their home was liveable. It didn't always happen. On the Guild, there is no "Social Contract" because you aren't forced into any of the worlds that have been created and it isn't your job to tell a GM off simply because you're the only one who disagrees with them. If you don't like the way the "government" of a thread is run, then it's just as simple as not playing in that thread. The Guild itself is home, not each individual Roleplay. If a GM is out of line, it's the Moderator's job to tell them so, I believe, or several people who are all in agreement. The majority isn't always right, but their advice carries merit, because there is indeed a reason that the majority is on a certain side.

Everybody has good points, because there isn't a debate if you don't have solid arguments for each, but that's simply my take and my own, personal complaint when it comes to GM'ing. ^^
Iliana rolled her eyes, "Whatever you say," She said as her ghost rematerialized in a soft blue flash.

Green scanners ran down the halls in front of them for some distance before he spoke, "You're clear to move from here, proceed with caution, my scan only goes so far," He warned as he lit their surroundings and they proceeded. The gentle 'tap, tap' of their boots echoed for a few feet in front of them down the hallway before dissipating. The air in the observatory was slightly damp, which was a bit uncommon for Mars. Stranger things have happened, Iliana mused to herself, but she stayed on her toes. Her hand released the underbarrel of her rifle and pulled her knife from its sheath latched to her belt behind her and gripped the weighted handle in preparation. Ambidexterity: one of the most useful traits to possess as a Huntress. There was something simply... melancholy about the observatory. It was almost depressing, but that didn't explain why small bits of moisture would drip from the ceiling onto the floor. Had the water reserves been left behind and eroded away, humidifying the entire complex? She shook her head: always assume the most dangerous option. Her voice was low, "Keep your eyes peeled for Hive..."

Minutes later, they were in the basement and Iliana chose to cut the light for a moment as her gaze scanned the room, looking for anything glowing or movement in the darkness. She took a knee and whispered something nearly inaudible to her Ghost, soon a black matte metal case appeared in front of her and her hands deftly lifted the sniper rifle from it. She didn't need to see to know exactly where every part of it was. However, all she did was rest it on her knee, remove the scope and peer through the night vision tube before placing the gun back in its case, letting her Ghost transmute it to her Jump Ship. The girl scanned the room with the night vision, as her Ghost hadn't picked up any movement or life signs. Something appeared rather sharp in her view and she furrowed her brow, standing up - it seems a pillar was blocking her line of sight as she silently siddled along the edge of the room toget a view around it. There was a clear glow that she could now see that had been harder to distinguish before... It was green and looked membranous. Iliana tucked her scope away and pulled her knife back out, returning to Asurya's side.

"Egg sacs..." She explained quietly, "Hive nearby, looks like the console is just beside them. We've a decision to make here, we can get the heat and ventilation turned on... it'll dry out some of the air - if we leave and let it run until the power drains, there's a good chance those eggs won't survive, but no guarantee. We can restore it to just the room we're in and slip in and out undetected... Or we can ensure the death of those eggs and tear them to shreds, alerting the Hive. We'll be fairly safe in our room, but we'll have to actually get back there first... Not to mention, we'll need to escape the complex after nightfall. What do you think?" She asked, deftly letting her knife twirl between each of her fingers as she stared at her partner through the Darkness that filled the room. "There's no telling how large their forces are... But this call is on you."

And so it was that, although they were far from ready, for their potential had never been unlocked... the time came that our heroes might walk a new path, one full of danger and sorrow, for in this realm... there were no main characters. Life was danger, and they were deemed mortal from the moment of conception. And thus their power was grown only by their desire to survive, but the world is cruel and by losing that which makes one a main character, they have lost all sense of security or protection...
