Wolves do not behave (that is, group) in the same way in all places, from what I know and have heard. It all depends on the particular sub-species, climate, abundance and type of available food, et cetera. The wolf packs over here are mostly just family units, for instance, composed at most of pair of adults and the adolescent cubs of the last litter (though in rare cases a previous year's cub or two might stick around for a second year, too). It is also quite common that the adults part their own ways (and may or may not stay together) after the cubs can take care of themselves, and only the siblings stay together for a while longer. And wolves who don't find mates frequently stay lone wolves, at least for the year.

I believe it is you in the borderhouse collab? And now Yoshua in the main IC, and me with Domhnall and lohk both in the other collab. Ashgan said he'll try to post during the weekend a couple days ago, though I imagine the site being clogged may have gotten in his way, too.
(I personally have only gotten the typical "The Guild is temporarily down because either:" page half the times I try to load, others have claimedly getting more erratic (lack of) feedback. Depending on what exactly if going on back-end, I hope Mahz either opens up a donation box and rents a server that is actually capable of handling hundreds of concurrent connections or alternatively permits other programmers with more experience and/or time access to the code... I wouldn't mind tampering with it, should I happen to have time, in all honesty.)

(Should someone simply need to posts for reference, then well ... I have copies of them all. I believe people all know either my Skype or e-mail.)

On a random note: what is actually depicted on either side of rodlin?
Good to know, I suppose... As a fair share of time had already passed since the original message by the time I sent the addition, I was starting to wonder (going with the assumption that university has kept you extraordinarily busy for the time being). I myself am obviously in no hurry as far as getting more elaborate replies goes.
...Jack?
@Nessa: No? Not even when you poke her a bit and think a bit more thoroughly? It occasionally happens that some parts are not as easy to get through as others, but things can change at any time, and when the situation seems bleak, it is often best to focus on here and now, start from something, and not think too far ahead, lest it starts to seem too much and becomes something to put off indefinitely until maybe someday one feels ready to face it. They already hit the bottom; it is far more likely things will get better now. Not instantly and all at once, of course - that wouldn't be natural -, but bit by bit. And regrettably, we would never find out what would happen unless we move on.
As for me, I am waiting for either Legion or ASTA in the Claw/Iridiel/Domhnall collab ... Legion I know has started writing a reply, not sure about ASTA, but he's around. Well, and for Nessa in our collab...
(Nessa? Are you still around? It has been a rather long time since my post, and you've been very silent here... How are you? Doesn't Thaler have anything to say?)

- And glad you like my portrayal of a lohk. I tend to be a bit uncertain in whether my interpretation matches what was imagined by the original creator writing someone else's creations, but looks like I hit the mark there. Certainly enjoyed writing the post, too.
A quick question for very near future - how are blades on the backs of male lohks arms actually positioned? In which direction do those extend compared to the arm and hand, do those actually extend to cover the backs of their arms...?

(Oh, and Claw's sheet has not been added to the opening post. It's here: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/posts/1781334 )
Your university doesn't have lab coats available on the spot? Huh. Every single lab, be it an university or institute lab (mostly biology and chemistry labs), I've been to has had an entire cabinet stock full of white lab coats of all possible sizes in some corner or back room. (I, however, do own an actual lab coat due to an event which handed them out some years ago.) Well, the Tallinn University of Technology's chemistry faculty's labs actually have dark blue lab coats, for some reason ... it has been theoreticized that it makes it easier to understand whether and what exactly you managed to pour onto yourself. Considering that many - if not most - of those lab coats actually have some bright pink and bleached-white stains on them, this theory just might hold true... (White for alkali, pink for acids?)

(...Clothes shopping is a horrible thing. Not only do I find it fairly tedious, but most things are either too short or too wide or both, except for when they are too narrow (though the latter more occurs with footwear, half of which clearly haven't been made to accommodate five toes). And I think companies actually label the sizes quite arbitrarily, so what is L for one is M for another and so forth.)

Hmm... Tyah, I must say that the people who can be found at my various family members' birthdays aren't necessarily the same, save for a few... Some of my family (the not-so-young cousins especially) actually celebrates their birthdays twice: once with family, once with friends. Understandable, in a sense, what with the atmosphere and activities being different. I personally mostly ignore my own birthdays.
(Which reminds me, I should ask my family again when my father's birthday will be celebrated ... he is out-of-country on the two weekends closest to the actual date, and a couple of days ago no one still had any idea. Makes planning a bit hard for me.)

(For some reason, your mention of age reminded me of a specific bank's handling of people's 26th birthday "Happy 26th birthday! Regrettably, you are no longer entitled to the various discounts meant for young people". Why, thanks... But eh, if my one grandmother had no problems climbing mountains in Peru in her mid-seventies and the other one is flying between Sweden and Spain and Estonia and so forth all the time, twenty-five or thirty sounds quite insignificant.)
Three or four birthdays celebrated at once? That sounds like a lot for one day... Granted, I myself just happen to literally share the same day of year with two of my relatives / extended family members (as well as one of my mother's very best friends, but her I've little contact with) as far as birthdays go, but these birthdays aren't generally celebrated together. ...If for no other reason, then because said two extended family members, albeit individually either very close or fairly close to me, are from different branches of the family, and thusly any joint birthday would end up like one of those family reunions where no one knows who half of the people are ... and we'd have to rent some kind of mansion for that, since it is wintertime and I don't think there'd be a private house or restaurant to fit all those people.
- As far as all the birthday-related well-wishes go, I think I shall postpone them to the (as far as messages and other means of contact which do not come with meeting in person go) more traditional, actual birthday.

(...Unprecedented university degree? What is meant with the unprecedented-part?)

And about everything else ... I think I've expressed most of my thoughts, if (as seems to be characteristic for me these days) a bit incoherent manner. Although I'm quite certain I left out something I either forgot or didn't manage to fit in... Er... Yeah. Take time, give yourself time, and may things work out to the best possible outcome.
On a RP-related note, I do intend to get the collab opening post finished before I go to sleep again; been a bit preoccupied with various matters over here.
@Jack: Wasn't going to leave you unaware of the happenings in the collab, no worries. If you wouldn't have gotten to see it before (via us sending you link/invite), the collab would have been posted in the IC upon conclusion, anyway. As planned, it is primarily just the characters of Claw, Domhnall and Iridiel getting acquainted with one another - that is to say, the two with Claw, since Domhnall and Iridiel already know one another -, so it shouldn't have very drastic effects on the world. Just had to figure out where the collab would be taking place firsthand... As it is, it seems that the general preference is for playing it out in PM, so I (or whoever makes the PM conversation) could simply add you as a fourth person? So you could keep an eye on things?

- On another note, I'll try to reply in the collab later today.

Random: Timing in fights, speed of thought, and depicting such things... Adrenaline and other factors can actually speed the thinking-processes up (which makes your thoughts somewhat poorly-processed ... the brain works better at a bit slower rates). To make things even more confusing, different parts of brain function at different speeds, and atop of that your conscious perception is altered in the post-fact processing, so that it would seem that you fully analyzed the happenings in real-time, rather than acting first and the "mental narrative" - in the lack of a better term - catching up way later, as it typically is in reality. (They did an experiment when they adjusted the computer's responses to the mental lag, and then suddenly knocked it back to instant response ... people without fail freaked out at the computer "predicting" their actions and altering what was going on on the screen before they actually saw themselves press the buttons.) Complex matters.
Where did I intend to go with it...? Basically, the way the (typical human) mind works during combat or crisis situation can generally only be - at best - be very poorly represented in text form, since it snaps to conclusions based on previous knowledge without actually processing it again, partly just goes to base reflex-level (which can actually cost you a lot, since the in-built reflexes aren't really tailored to the types of combat people have developed on the more recent times), learned reflex level, atop of it being on overdrive and generally irregular, and bizarrely enough, often also getting distracted by random things.
(Realistic thought patterns in general convey poorly to readable text. The typical human mind keeps switching between different things a dozen times a minute. I have tried to follow my thoughts during this message, which means I am thinking of not only what I type, but also of following my thoughts (do not think of pink elephants?), paying bills (as something I typically recall only when having to do something tedious I don't want to do), driving cars, plants, what I hear in the other room (a washing machine, should anyone wonder), the characters I intend to apply with elsewhere, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera... I am very curious how they intend to solve that once they seriously start developing neural interfaces or thought-to-text... Thinking purely of only one thing for a longer duration of time, and doing so in a coherent, properly structured manner simply isn't human.)
- In the end, I feel that readability typically should take priority over the realism of the depiction. (Sometimes altering the way you write can add to the immersion, though. You may have noticed that I occasionally vary my manner of typing depending on the condition of my character...) I've typically gone two ways: describe mostly only the action, and leave in just a flicker of thought here and there where the actions would otherwise be nonsensical, or go forth and detail the background information upon which the actions are built - which is just that, the background information and experience, and isn't actually processed again. Kind of how you don't [/i]think[/i] of how you might brake and turn the wheel in a car to deal with a sudden obstacle on the road, and just do it. Even if that is by no means a natural reaction, but a learned reflex to given stimulus. The more elaborate background-recounting, however, has been mistaken for insanely quick thinking. (Part of the reason why I have been trying to get myself to either predominantly use the former or, alternatively, make the background information distinctly stand out as not the presently processed thoughts.)
Er... Yeah. Mostly just a "little" thought on the speed of thought being mentioned again in Fixer's posts. Speed - unless stated - tends to convey poorly in text, too, not just thought-processes. (Not sure what kind of answers I expect here, if any. General thoughts on the matter?)

Why the topic originally came up was because of Ixion talking during a fight ... and talking during the combat-phase of a fight is almost impossible. For one because talking is very distracting for the speaker, and for the second because speaking is a slow action. I tried several times, and it is physically impossible for me to discernibly say "do what is necessary" in under 1.6 seconds - and then it is already pretty much on the verge of being unintelligible. 1.6 seconds is also way longer than the maneuver in its entirety would have permitted without failing completely. And 1.6 seconds is something you get with a person who has a trained voice ... whereas Ixion is supposed to only be able to speak with a great difficulty, and thusly be near-mute. (Something that seems to have been neglected in some of the more recent posts?)
- This is just something to either discard or keep in mind in the future in the way of constructive criticism; I'm quite certain you know to take it as such (after all those years), but as there have been misunderstandings over it every now and then, I kind of feel the need to reiterate it.
@Legion/ASTA: I certainly would be. Are we going to stick with the original plan of creating a scene in some undetermined location near Zerul City and joining the main group when they are either about to enter of leaving Zerul, depending on how the timing lines up? Where do you think the collab should be made - pad/PM/other?
