Despite how he holds himself and how he looks, there's always that air of calmness that surrounds him, like he couldn't hurt a fly if he wanted to. A content expression usually dominates his features and it's obvious, always having a habit of staring off into space when he shouldn't. And when he talks, in spite of the extreme use of dictation, it's always on the same level as his recipient, as if he understands exactly where you're coming from. The undeniable gentleness is a surprise from a person with such a superior background, even his education rings red alarms to those who have only really just heard of him.

To grasp how Hayden thinks, one would have to truly stop and think for a good moment and then fully observe his habits and quirks first hand for about a year's time. From the way he always reaches across to scratch the back of his head nervously to the OCD he has about double knotting his shoes, even to the superstitious way he feels about a nice pair of goofy looking polka dot ties (bowtie and tie). From this account, one would definitely determine that Hayden sees the world with a pair of rose colored glasses; everything's supposedly perfect and happy and sunshine funtime. Couldn't be further from the truth. Hayden knows the world is as crappy as they make it, maybe even more so, but he has a way of keeping to a certain philosophy as if it were the only thing that could ever keep him afloat.

It's that simple. Things really do happen and, to Hayden, that's inevitable; it's how you deal with it that defines you. And Hayden does so with a smile on his face, no complaints, and a hard determination to solve whatever issue that is plaguing him, be it infinitely large or the size of an atom. Being a science oriented mind helps in his critical thinking as he often is logic driven in the way he works and lives. It's truly aggravating the way things seem to brush off his shoulder, even if they really do deeply affect him. He takes that grief, lets it run its course, and then gets off his ass and does something about it. Being a busy body, it gives him great joy to solve problems, be they academic or social, and it's a wonder he ever fell into teaching. Hayden has a knack for getting kids to do their work, through more means than one; you have to have an arsenal when dealing with children.
Which brings us to the other side of Hayden's demeanor, the one everyone on earth has. The one filled to the brim with flaws ranging from largely bad to menial, at best. Hayden wears his heart on his sleeves, but unlike other people, when he's scorned... he lets you know it through ways you didn't realize were possible. He's a grudge holder and a bad one at that—it takes a lot for him to forget that time where you took advantage of him and his wealth to get that better paying job and then dumped him on the street like some common whore. Yeah, no, he doesn't take extreme offense lightly, but who would? It's the fact that he turns the revenge up to eleven. Remember that time where he was described as never wanting to throw someone out on the streets, effectively turning them from prosperously rich to dirt poor in the matter of days?

If Hayden is ever thoroughly crossed, such as betrayed in ways that one should never take lightly, then he'll use whatever connection he has to make sure you suffer every bit as much as he did. Add to that, abusing, using, or severely hurting any of his family members (mainly his youngest sister) and he'll make you want to literally just die, without even laying a finger on you, or so much as being within a hundred miles. He takes his grudge matches to the extreme, but only when the extreme is brought onto him. Play a harmless prank on him and, like any other day, he'll laugh it off. Bankrupt his father's business and he sure as hell will find a way to deport you, criminalize you, imprison you in a KGB fortress, and get every cent you stole back. Abuse or harm Acacia, and you might as well be dead to the world, or at least wishing you were. It's excessive, but it's a flaw, and like any flaw anyone has, it might as well just be a giant stain. Albeit, this one is hidden in layers of sweet smiles and more than generous giving, it's a large stain, nonetheless.

Of course, his parents kept churning out the kids, they kept their eyes on him. For years he went on without a question, raised to be a spitting image of his father and with the skills and talents he acquired. That was sooner found to be a hopeless endeavor, as Hayden had a specialty for something other than business, but his parents ignored the child's yearning needs and wishes. Being young, he couldn't necessarily help but sway under the control of his parents, and, though reluctant, he did so with a stone face and with more diligence than they required. By the end of his high school, which he spent at the same place his parents funded and his ancestors founded, he was the exact carbon copy of his father. Hayden was astute in economics, knew how to handle a business, and everything that was required of an heir to a vast private company. They truly thought he was going to be the one to fully commit to this, that it would stop there and they needn't worry about their other children—in terms of what they would do in life.
During the final year of high school, though, Hayden had planned accordingly and couldn't wait to prove his parents wrong.
Disappointment was all he got and profound shame. They passed him over like he wasn't even their child for what seemed like the entire time he spent at MIT. He'd effectively fooled them, pulled the wool over their eyes and did exactly what they feared. Of course, he was still their kid and they couldn't necessarily stop that from happening; they couldn't wipe him from existence. Plus, he didn't do it to scorn his parents, he only did it because it was what fulfilled his desires and his needs, something he thought everyone should care deeply for—not excessively, however. He never disliked his parents or disrespected them, just didn't care for the way the raised him and the direction they pushed him toward, which was extreme unhappiness. He was right in this and handled the situation as best he could, though he knows he could have done better, even if the reaction would have been the exact same. The disappointment, though, he didn't care for and he didn't let it weigh him down 'cause his parents' approval was no longer a matter of concern, knowing full well that their approval meant sacrificing everything he was.
It wasn't worth it. His happiness and his satisfaction and his life mattered more than their approval—his father's curt nod and small smile. That was all he would have gotten and that, compared to his own life, was far less worth the hard work he pushed himself through. He wanted the most gain from the work he put out and his father didn't and wouldn't provide him with that.
There was always visiting, making sure he was evident in his siblings' lives despite their astonishment and their own disapproval. He made himself present where his parents weren't and he felt they gained a lot from that. Unlike them, he was actual there to help and encourage and enlighten when he could, again, much to his parents disapproval. Of course, life always called him back and he couldn't be there all the time. College was an easy ride, easy enough for him to make his visits frequent, but work beckoned more of him. He kept himself present in various labs and working for mainly for NASA, while gaining what he could. Despite his parents shame, they still funded him, let him have whatever he want, though he only took what was necessary for him to live and kept the rest for emergencies, though those were few and far between and was often untouched for long periods of time.
Hayden soon found himself in a lull with his work. Yes, he built amazing mechanical contraptions for various companies, mainly NASA, but there was always something nagging at the back his mind. He felt he needed something else, something different and he wasn't getting that with his current work. Granted, he still loved what he did, it was just the fact that he didn't feel like he was fulfilling anything. Which was when he turned toward Caelbury Academy, the school he attended, that was constantly and persistently requesting he teach a class there. For a while he put it off, not feeling quite sure of what the job offered, but after careful consideration, he finally took it.
It was the best decision of his life.
Teaching during the school year was a breeze and he felt as if he was actually doing something with his life again. During the summers off, which was his allotted vacation time, he would always head back to Florida where he continued contributing his skills there, as well as MIT to help research and work there. But, his satisfaction lay in the Academy, finding that he truly made an impact in the students' lives and for the better. It was odd, though, that he got the request to become the school's vice principal, having worked there for only a few years. Apparently, either the Academy thought it smart to have an actual Hawthorne be in such a position of power or actually thought he was capable of doing more good there. Either way, he would prove the latter.

HH: "Uh... I mean... it's a name? I've lived a pretty normal life compared to my siblings."
IN: "But, you're still a Hawthorne."
HH: "That's not what makes me who I am though."

HH:"What? I don't think I—"

HH: "Wh-what?"
IN: "I mean... onto the survey. We shuffled a bunch of names. If you don't know any of them, no need to comment, but we'd like your view on Caelbury's students and faculty. We want to know if this prestigious school seems like what everyone's making it up to be. All the surveys are the same and range in class, race, intellect, et cetera. They were as random as we could make them."
Acacia Hawthorne:
"Acacia is my sister. I'll repeat that: Acacia is my sister. I mean, there's nothing I wouldn't do for her, but don't take that as me being nepotistic. In an academic environment, if Acacia didn't flourish as she is currently, then I wouldn't force something onto her that she is clearly not ready for. I think she has a solid understanding of that and she isn't a problem for anyone; in fact, I get more good comments about her than I do about misbehaving teenagers. She's the perfect student..."

"Oh, I just... there's something wrong, clearly. I can't talk about that; it would be overstepping a boundary as both a brother and a teacher. Hawthorne's have a lot of pressure put on them, my littlest sister especially."
Lili Lafontaine:
"She didn't do well in Physics, but she's a sweet gal, so I can't hold that against her. However, I couldn't really pass her if she didn't get her grades up, which was the only incentive for her coming to class. It was difficult, and I had to cut a few corners, but I got her through with a solid C. It's a required course and not a very difficult one, but science definitely isn't her strong point and there's nothing I can really do about that. I have, however, seen a few of her doodles and some of her art walking throughout the school; she's gifted in those regards and I hope she follows her dreams."
Jacob Rockwell:
"So, when I told my class that I work, and still work, for NASA, this kid in the back nearly jumped out of his seat. When I first saw him, he was really reserved, taken back and didn't talk much. But, at that moment, I figured why not talk to him after class? The subject seemed to excite him. I honestly felt I wasn't doing the kid any justice. Physics is my job and he kinda—if I can do any good for this kid, it's getting him into some job like NASA doing some crazy shit out in space. I don't need to recommend him, though, if he wants to go, he'll go and he'll excel and succeed at the job miles ahead of anyone I know there. That's not saying that none of my coworkers do good work, but for Jacob... it's like his life revolves around anything physics and space based. I can see him working with minds like Michio Kaku and Neil Degrasse Tyson; he's that good at this and I can tell that people are going to see the potential in him right away.
"I do my absolute best to challenge him, but I feel like I'm not doing quite enough. He's driven and this is his everything, so it's hard for me when I can't teach him anymore than what I actually know. But, I'm a Vice Principal now and I just hope that the new guy in place can do him more justice than I could have done. But, hey, if not, he still has the Aeronautics and Space Club to vent and do whatever he needs to do. I didn't tell him this, but I actually kinda talk very highly of him when I go off to work in the summer and I gave the dean and president of MIT a few of his equations. They were impressed and it's kind of a big feat impressing those guys."
Roman Zelenka:
"He doesn't apply himself. I didn't have him for a student in any of my classes, but I've seen his work so far and it could definitely be better. I can't judge him, since I don't know what his life is like outside of school, but I feel that the kid has a lot of potential that he just doesn't want to apply."
Vladimir Kalkovich:
"Nice kid. I heard him play one day and it was... just the total opposite of what he presents. It's not Screamo, Goth, but it's pretty heavy stuff. I don't know what to think about it. He's exceptionally well with anything mathematics oriented, but I can kind of tell it's not necessarily his passion. The kid likes music and I hope he follows whatever he thinks will make him the happiest. In the end, I guess that's what I really want for all of the students that come through here, even if it's a very faulty utilitarian way to think."
Rayne McCutcheon:
"That's an interesting choice. You insist this was randomized? No, I'm kidding.
"I had her when I was teaching Physics and it wasn't the easy one. It was a Calculus based Physics course. She didn't show up to my class except for tests, which was when she turned in her homework, or picked it up. It was odd, at first, but I got used to it, especially since she aced every test I handed her. I realized that, even if she didn't show up to class, she worked her ass off and docking her points for doing work outside of class would have been... to put it bluntly, asinine of me. I don't think she responds well to authority, or people to that matter, but I've dealt with much, much worse in my family. Being the Eldest and being exposed to ten plus hormonal teenagers in just a few years span was the equivalent to basic training in the military. I really can't compare those, but it was bad. I know what a rebel is like and I know how people feel when against authority, so I know how to deal with it. She wasn't doing anything necessarily bad, though truancy is against school policy, but she was the only person to have gotten above a 90% in her class and a 5 on the AP Exam, which she didn't even need to take, since the class was already a collegiate one in itself. But, if there's anyone I'd like to crack more than her and get to know, that wasn't my sister, I'm pretty sure they'd have to be more than just a closet case."

"He reminds me a lot of one of my brothers, Damian, but uh... a little more musically gifted. They both don't understand what their actions can do to themselves and others and that can get a little sticky, but I have an infinite amount of patience for teenagers, especially teenagers like them.

"A very diligent worker and quite the fluent language speaker. It's impressive. I see her a few times and I admire her hard work, but... I think she tries too hard to fit in, like she's holding back just a tad bit of herself—an important part, albeit a small one. I think she just needs to realize it for herself, though, as it doesn't seem to being doing much harm, yet. The only reason I don't talk to her about it is probably because I don't want to make an ass out of myself for just assuming something. I mean, why else would she hang around the more high-class of the Academy?"

It's not because he isn't exceptionally talented or doesn't have a lot of money, it's just that his personality makes it very hard to notice him. I think he knows, but I've discussed with his coach that he needs to keep a 2.0 GPA to stay in the swim team. Being a Hawthorne, the coach didn't once question me; it doesn't matter how damn good he is at swimming, if he isn't applying himself academically, then he isn't doing shit until he realizes the importance of a general education. I don't take those rules lightheartedly, especially not when someone decides to slack off in class just 'cause it's not his, 'thing.'"

"He's very unique and it's fascinating how he interacts with certain people. He's got a lot of patience, which is good in regards to someone in that position, but he also has something more, that makes him... extraordinary. You know? I can't put my finger on it, but it's evident in his eyes and the way he—he looks at you. Like he's looking at the whole you and not just some made up term or social construct developed by years of bigotry, blackmailing, and scheming. I don't think he sees kids as simply elite, wealthy, or common; there's no segregation in his eyes, despite the obvious gravitation to what one is familiar with. These are kids to him, just like the ones you'd find out in a regular neighborhood doing regular things, just on a slightly grander scale. I think that's what separates him from all of the other principals who've come and gone here and I think that's why he's here in the first place. You don't have to have gone to Oxford or Cambridge or any of the Ivy League schools to be a good people person and learn how to interact with people, to learn how they tick. He proves that and I'm honored to be working for him; there's no one I would have wanted in that position more."

"He's... odd. Being a child prodigy is no joke, though, so I have a lot of respect for what Flynn does, especially if he could be somewhere other than a measly private school doing who knows what. He's one of the best teachers we've got and all of the teachers here don't take their jobs lightly, either, so that's a big accomplishment. I was actually the one who insisted that he be allowed to keep his cat in class, even if he doesn't quite know that there were a lot of issues with some of the teachers and higher-ups. Being a Hawthorne, I technically have the final say in matters pertaining to practically anything that goes on in the school, though I really don't like knowing I have that kind of sway over people's opinions. I really want this new principal to work out... ahem. 'Cause... 'cause he... I think... he'll do the school a lot of good and it's not at all for any personal reasons pertaining to us in any way, shape, or form.

"I actually came in to teach when she was just out looking for help. I wasn't the first one she came to, which was obvious because I was both new and I was a Hawthorne. She really wanted to make a change, so she didn't come to me until the last second when she was certain she had at least planned how she was going to make it out alive. I don't think she expected the help I gave her and I was skeptical first; someone like her, with her reputation, would only come to me to get me to change all her grades and give her a free pass to college. But, like what I said with Acacia, I'm not going to force something on someone who isn't ready. Alli was clearly taking this very seriously and she was more than ready for the challenge she had to face. I was new, but I think I was one of her best friends during her final year. I helped her whenever I could and with whatever I could. I'm... I'm very, very proud of her. Oh, I'm getting all teary eyed. I'm sorry, don't tell her that. It's... she was the type of person you scoffed at before she realized just how bad of a road she was heading down. Alli is an amazingly strong person and not because she decided to kick drugs in their asses or tell off her abusive parents or anything like that. It doesn't take a huge tragedy to make a strong person; it takes a decisive choice that could change your whole life and making that choice regardless of how much fear or doubt you have and seeing it through to the end.
"But, it was kind of a surprise that she came back to teach at the Academy and just as I became the Vice Principal too. I'm looking forward to sitting in on some of her classes. She was a very energetic and fun gal, so I can't imagine she'd turn into the usual boring teacher, you know? I haven't had much of a chance to talk with her, but I'm certain we could be really good friends. She just gives off that vibe, you know?"

"I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that her name popped up. The Herrings and Hawthornes are a very close family—I'm sure our fathers love to exchange notes on how to raise children. She's very close to my sister, and for good reason. I think we all kind of do our best to avoid our families, whatever the cost. I mean, Eliza is Eliza. She's just that girl you hear about and see on magazines occasionally, but you never really get to know her. It's the same way with anyone who isn't Acacia, which I can tell is a great privilege that can easily be taken for granted. I think she feels the same way about other people, as well. She doesn't care to learn about others unless they either pertain to her in some way or what she's trying to accomplish. So, I guess it's a mutual thing. I don't know her; she doesn't know me. It would be nice, though, to see what's really ticking behind those eyes, but that's like the equivalent to seeing a unicorn. And why not pester Acacia about her? Well, I respect the privacy of my students as long as it doesn't immediately threaten anyone else. I have a feeling Eliza's not going to be the one to throw the first punch."

Well, there isn't really much that hasn't been explained already. He's tall, can look intimidating and has rather sharp features (defined nose, prominent cheekbones, firm and sharp jaw). His smile is very distinct, stretching out slightly large cheeks to show a perfect row of very white teeth (he likes hygiene)—he smiles very often. He keeps his hair well kept until it grows somewhat long and then he handles it however it feels like being handled. It's very cooperative most of the time and requires just a slight tousle to fix. He's not a big fan of hair products, but will use it when necessary. It's got a very windswept quality and, when longer, can sometimes grow outward into distinct wingtips. Regular sized apartment near Caelbury that houses most teachers who live farther away and off-campus. Contains all the necessities, but Hayden has given it his personal flair over the years. The layout below is how all of the apartments are designed. The way it's designed, however, and decorated is up to the individual. Caelbury gives said individuals enough money to do so how they please.
Standard Layout - Front door leads straight into a small entrance. Entrance leads directly into the living room. The living room is large and is jointly attached to the kitchen. There's a balcony near the far end of the living room (can be seen from entrance). Right beside the kitchen, the living room branches into a relatively small hallway with a semi-large bathroom halfway through and three bedrooms that branch from the end. The bedroom on the immediate right is designed to be the office, which is the smallest room in the apartment. The bedroom down the middle is the largest and is the master bedroom, containing a rather expansive closet to the right, upon entering, and its own bathroom to the left, which is smaller than the other, but contains the standard necessities. The second largest bedroom is a spare and used for whatever the inhabitant deems necessary. The apartment as a whole is designed to be ultra-modern and 'chic' by societal standards. Most of the apartment is hardwood ("That is Mahogany!"), but there are large sections of smooth, beige carpet near the balcony sliding doors and leading into the hallway and the bedrooms.
The kitchen is mostly a shiny steel, with marble counters and a mini island used as a separator from the living room and equipped with six bar stools (4 in front and two on each side). A large refrigerator comes with the apartment, pushed to the far wall dividing the hall from the kitchen Cabinets overlay most of the kitchen's walls, into the corner. An electric stove and oven is pushed to the opposite wall, far enough from the island to be considered safe. Right next to the fridge is the dishwasher. Most of the walls are white. Just outside the kitchen and between the island and center of the living room lays a sharp, very square table, small, that can hold four people comfortable or two people rather well.
The living room, specially decorated by Hayden, contains a stark white, sectional sofa placed directly in the middle, over a large white, black, and red french rug with a long, glass coffee table in the middle. An armchair is placed directly diagonal, facing the large mounted TV and separated from the couch by a glass end table with a lamp on it. On the wall facing opposite to the kitchen, there is a large painting with a black, buffet table placed directly beneath with ever changing decorations atop it, mostly a vase with flowers and always with pictures of his siblings and close friends, and in the corner near the table is a tall lamp that lights most of the living room, though there are overheads placed everywhere. Behind the couch, on the carpeted area, lie a kind of relaxation area. On one end, there are two chaises and an armchair in the middle with round end tables separating them, both equipped with lamps. On the other side lie two thin, black, wood bookcases and another buffet table between with another painting above it. Out on the balcony are the usual outdoors furniture, a small patio table with chairs surrounding it and more chairs and tables near the sliding glass door. The entrance room is decorated in a very ultra-modern, yet french style decor that Hayden tends to change on a weekly basis. There's usually a chair in there, with a bookcase, and a table with flowers, and possibly some pieces of art on the walls, as well as lighting.
His office contains a corner desk with a very nice leather couch situated in front of a state of the art computer. There are some file cabinets neatly placed against the wall. Aside from that, it's the typical office and is nothing much in the special area. The master bedroom contains a large queen sized bed, usually a red comforter and sheets with white pillows and a black headboard, with two nightstands and lamps next to it. A dark brown dresser with a large mirror is set to the far left wall, and another dresser situated in front of the bed that holds a flatscreen TV for his own personal, lonely movie nights. A small bookcase is set to the far right wall. The closet is walk-in and kind of large, but only for an apartment. It contains mostly suits and dress shoes, anyway. The other bedroom is usually decorated how Acacia deems necessary, but he has it equipped with a twin-sized bed, a two dressers (one with another TV on it, just for her), and it's own mini-desk where she can do homework or use her laptop, or whatever she wants.
The bathroom isn't too special. It has a walk-in shower and a tub right next to it. It's all mostly sterile, steel looking with a large mirror facing the walk-in shower, where the sink and counter with its cabinets right under it. The toilet is conveniently placed between the sink and the tub, which is stretched along the far end of the bathroom. The bathroom is somewhat expansive, with a large strip down the middle for easy access, etc.
Work Space:
Well, it's really just an office. It's incredibly organized, but looks like a typical office a vice principal would have. It is right across from Brenden's and it's definitely not a coincidence that Hayden keeps his door open all the time. It contains a neatly organized desk in the middle of the office, with the regular supplies, paper work, and pictures of friends and siblings and all that fun stuff. There's a bookcase beside him and more fun stuff. In front of the desk there are two comfortable maroon colored, leather armchairs and behind the desk is a darker red, brown colored office chair. Again, the office isn't too special.
