Melissa

A pair of young boys stood before her. No, a young boy and something which was wearing the appearance of one, the shining wings, the impossibly blue eyes, what else could it be but an angel?

And yet, the angel said they weren't in hell, that she wasn't dead despite what had occurred, he might have been lying, this might all be a trick so he could crush them later, and yet she didn't believe that was the case.

Maybe this wasn't all just a lie and she could truly find freedom in this strange land. Which is when the angel stated his name, Lucemon, and really could it be anything else? A perfect angel who descended to become the ruler of hell, all the protestations, all the seeming truths, could she believe any of it?

A sly, almost foxlike grin quirked at her lips, her eyes narrowed as her thoughts began to turn and flow like they hadn't in years - maybe the fresh air was useful for something no matter how virtual it may be - a child and a fallen angel attempting to guide them all to hang like puppets upon unseen strings, a world within the computer, a digital space occupied by digital monsters.

Was their a link? She would need more evidence, and yet it seemed fundamentally obvious, a world composed of digitised information, would it not be obvious that the resulting creation would be patterned off of its sources? The world around her seemed clearly influenced by the "real world" yet with clear faults and mutations, leaves too green to be natural, light flowing and falling in ways it would be impossible under regular physics, it was clearly rooted in information from reality, but that truth had blurred and been lost in the translation.

Would the same thing be true for this Lucemon? Was this all a trick he was playing, or was the information which composed his form as different from the root of his name as the pseudo grass around them was to the genuine article? He was clearly arrogant, obviously inhuman, yet for all his claims of being the rightful owner of this world, he was willing to hand over his titles should she and those around her aid him. He was overflowing with pride, and yet he willingly slighted that self importance by seeking aid even from those as worthless as her. This was either some grand deception, or maybe she was wrong and this was a genuine opportunity, she simply did not know.

For a moment she felt sick, like her head was spinning, she wanted her room, the safety and security it represented, but as her hand touched the furry surface of the bag she was still gripping tightly to her chest, a silent exhale forced that fear out of her system. She had chosen to pursue freedom, to escape the pain and sorrow of her mistakes - if this was a secret trap, if at the end of this Lucemon simply killed her, had she really lost anything? No, so she would push on, she would find this truth and maybe, just maybe become someone her sister might have been proud of.

If Lucemon was the devil, whether this Ty was a willing ally or an unknowing tool, it would be better to be under his thumb than to leave all these children around her to suffer alone. Either way, she needed more information, more context, and she wouldn't get that unless she gave in.

Her weight dropped from under her, her legs twisting to bring her to a kneel, her voice was hoarse, tired and unused, but still brimming with what could only be called kindness, "I'll do whatever you demand, I'll serve you in whatever capacity you desire Sir Lucemon, even if I'm worthless, even if I'm nothing, if you want my aid, my support, then I'll give you it all. I am Melissa Everton, and I'll be in your care from now on."

And really, at the root of it all, feeling needed, having someone claim there was some grand destiny she could serve in - maybe in this she could make up for her unforgivable failures and reach out to that shining star one more time.
She hated her room, it was a prison.
She loved her room, it was safe.
She hated the world, where everything she loved could be lost in an instant, where no matter how much she tried, she would never truly be able to make her dreams come true.
She loved the world, where her sister once played, where her parents still sat besides the door and talked, where her smile still shone and her books showed her a path to making everyone happy.

But even if she loved it, even if she missed it, she hated it, she was afraid of it, and truly would she be any happier under the sun than gazing longingly at those beautiful pictures, remembering those happy memories, and studying for truths she would never need to truly use.

A pair of old gloves peaked out of her bag, shiny red, a gift from her sister who saw too many programs of doctors snapping gloves onto their hands and forgot they used disposable, sterile latex. They were pretty, they were precious, they were just like her - useless, perfect for going outside and showing off but when she was trapped within this prison of her own making, what use was that?

Eyes flickered over to the bed past the blank screen and covered windows, to the camera plastered with stickers hidden within her old school bag, an oversized furry thing she used to love. She'd hug it when going to bed, the weight of the books, of the knowledge guiding her to slumber, now it was just a way to keep precious things safe, and too full of those precious memories to cling tightly anymore.

A flash of light out of nowhere. Were her parents coming around again? Trying to guide her to walk out of this, to push her and care for her again, to show her the kindness she failed to deliver to the person who mattered most to all of them, but no sounds came forth, no lowered voices or passionate pleas, the light didn't widen like the door being opened, it didnt rattle like something knocking on the covered window, it simply was.

It simply was her computer, the screen lit up despite her not being near it, her eyes closed for a moment, a prank? Did someone really want to punish her more? To ruin her computer after she had ruined everything else. But no, she had to try, she might not be a genius with computers like some, but surely she could do something, even if she failed when it mattered, she couldn't fail all the time, right?

It was a simple box, a simple question, and truly if this was a joke, if this was a cruel prank - what did she have to lose?

DO YOU SEEK FREEDOM? Of course, but how can you be free of yourself?

DO YOU SEEK ESCAPE? How? How can I escape my own worthlessness?

A finger wavered, an arm reached out, grabbing her old bag, her old dreams and hopes and memories, it had been a while, but it seemed even now she couldn't escape that old habit. A bag no longer full of books, but full of memories, she could clutch it like a teddy bear regardless, she could cling tight and dream about one day being truly free.

And then the world went mad. The screen growing bigger and closer, that light at the end of the tunnel she dreamt of saving others from, was it coming for her? Perhaps it was time, perhaps with this her family could move on, they lost their children years ago, now they could bury them together. This may have been her fault, pressing that button, but maybe this was the kindest solution for everyone.

Her eyes refused to focus, the onrushing light becoming blinding, but she refused to look away, refused to close her eyes and reject what her worthlessness had sent her sister to. "Ah, sister. I'm coming..."

The light became everything, became blinding. And everything fell away, leaving a blank room, a hollow house, and an empty family.

Her eyes focused again as she heard a voice calling out, eyelids blinking open after they had shut at a point she simply didn't recall, the comforting weight of her bag on her chest. Had she fell asleep? Had all that been just a bad dream? But she felt the ground beneath her, it wasn't her bed, it wasn't even her floor or chair like she sometimes fell asleep in. It was the forest floor and a group of people were laying down around her. This was too elaborate for a prank, too cruel for some desperate attempt of her family. There was only one real option for what this could be, one reason she had seen that light and then found herself like this...

"Ah, is this hell? I suppose it makes sense. Maybe that was Lucifer here to take our souls for our sins..."

An arm reached down, a leg tensed beneath her, with a moment of difficulty, Melissa rose to stand, eyes open and gazing almost melancholy towards the canopy above them, bag clutched to her chest and hair hanging limply around her face.

"If any of you need any help, if you've been hurt... I'm here to help for what it may be worth, just don't. Just don't ask me to save you, I'm no-one special, not anymore."
Human Character Sheet

Name: Melissa Everton
Age: 19
Physical Description:

Important items: A much loved, old hat. An Album of faded photographs. A camera covered in old stickers. A bag of forgotten tools.

Short Bio: That which has broken cannot be so easily repaired. No matter how much you try, a vase once shattered cannot be restored no matter how much gold you fill the cracks with. A shining star who lit up the lives of those around her, until that evening star set for the first and final time.

A girl who once stood to bear a bright future, a child who lived for the sake of the love she felt, an open heart who's only desire was to save those around her, most especially her beloved younger sister. Was it any wonder that a child like that would decide to become a doctor? To spend her life saving those around her and bring but a little more light to the darkest times of people's lives.

But everything fell apart. Her beloved sister, the centre of her world suddenly fell sick, the girl who inspired her to save others, became the one life she could never save. No matter how many books she read, no matter how many exams she aced, she could not cure the incurable, and her world broke like a vase pushed from a shelf.

Her loving heart shattered, her family incapable of picking up the pieces left behind, and her dreams became nothing other than a waking nightmare. What use is there in saving others... When you cannot save those who truly matter? All she had left was an old hat her sister once loved, and a collection of pictures, her heart inscribed for her to gaze upon, yet unable to truly repair.

Isolated and trapped within her own broken self, living only for the shining light of a screen and the flickering of those pictures held gently in her fingers, her bright future became an overcast shadow, until a ray of light came through. A message which promised her a new purpose, and perhaps an opportunity to save herself, if not anyone else.

Personality: A loving heart clouded by melancholy. An outstretched hand cracked and mended. A sad smile as she aims to support those around her, yet even then momentary rays of her original self shine through. She might never be the shining star she once was, but her light can chart a path for others to find their own dreams.

Skills: A deep knowledge of medicine and pharmaceuticals, a girl who once dreamt of being a great doctor, yet whose fingers slipped before she could truly grasp that star.
Photography, to retain a dream and etch it for all to see.
An empathetic heart to reach out to others, even as she conceals her own self.
A NEET's encyclopaedia, a wide range of random facts and knowledge from time spent isolating herself.

Digimon Character Sheet

Name: DORUmon
Nickname: Ruru
Age: ???
Physical Description:

Type: Data?
Short Bio: A corpse who refuses to die. A digimon who lives for the sake of love, and refuses to rest until she meets it. A broken, flawed beast who's digicore was damaged beyond repair, yet even still rejects her end and continues on through sheer force of obsession. A puppet pulling her own strings, following an absent heart in search of one who might fix her. And who one day, encountered a being who seemed so similar, yet so different to what she had become and simply decided to follow it, in search of the destiny she felt was inevitable.

Personality: Fundamentally broken. A digimon who should love as fiercely as the thunder, and feel as deeply as the heavens. Even in this state, that love and passion occasionally shine through, lightning breaking the everdeepening clouds, yet for most of the time, she is but a hollow puppet. A machine operating itself even as it falls apart, a doll who searches for love and will fulfil any wish, any desire to reach that point. Less a living being, less a digimon and more a function, an equation ever solving for an inevitable answer.

Powers: Metal Cannon - Fires an iron sphere from its mouth.
Dash Metal - Fires an iron sphere even while charging, although it's more powerful if it fires after standing still and accumulating power
Hyper Dash Metal - A high-speed tackle that sends shockwaves through its opponent
Metal Shoot - Emits a small blast from the mouth

Future Evolutions: DEX_DORUgamon -> DEX_DORUguremon -> DEX_DORUguramon (Broken path - The doll solving for the solution to love, an empty shell searching for the love she knows she should be overflowing with)
Nefertimon -> Shutumon -> Junomon / Hysteric Mode (Natural path - should her love shine brighter than her fractures. A dream she wishes to reach out to, yet inevitably falls short when the broken pieces fail to fall into place)
