I'm being super finicky again and changing the image I'm using to depict Kai. Doesn't have any effect on the game but satisfies my neurotic need for him to look right. I'm weird, I know. Last time, I swear.

Speaking of technobabble, I've never really put much thought into the physics of Firefly. The ship flies at what I would assume to be faster than the speed of light but I'm drawing a blank on how this is accomplished. Not looking for an actual explanation but does anyone know some usable terminology? The word "hyperdrive" keeps popping into my head but I kind of feel like that's wrong. I can't remember if anyone mentioned what this process is actually called on the show.

Cammy fought hard not to roll her eyes at Black's admonishment but was unable to prevent her tongue from poking out of her mouth at him. Thankfully she managed to pull it back in before he noticed...She hoped. She sat on the end of the bed as Terry introduced herself and said "Nice to meet you guys. Well for starters, what are mutants and how did I end up here?". A lump began to form in Cammy's throat. She wasn't entirely clear on how this girl had ended up here but if the circumstances surrounding her arrival at the school were anything like Cammy's...She tried not to think about it. Too many of the kids around here had tragic stories. "Those are both great questions" she said, forcing a smile onto her face "And I'm sure Black will be happy to answer both of them and any more that you have. But for now...take my hand". Cammy reached her hand gently out towards Terry, trying her hardest to keep a friendly expression. She knew that she could take away any physical pain Terry may be in from whatever caused her to be brought in unconscious. She just had to touch her for a moment. It was easier to do it this way than to try and explain her strange ability.

"There was a segmentation fault. It overloaded the sensors" explained Kai "I had to rewire and reboot it. It should be fine now but I'd like to get Higgins up here to check it out anyway" Where was that guy anyway? Kai hadn't seen him for a while...He really hoped they didn't leave him behind on New Melbourne. "Of course the main problem is that it's yī dà tuó dà biàn!" he proclaimed, emphasising his annoyance with the faulty tech with a half hearted smack at the console. "I've told you before, we need to get the whole gorram thing replaced". Kai knew that a new nav computer wasn't cheap and that Victoria would be reluctant to shell out for a new one but maybe they could at least get a second hand one that worked better than the one they had now. Already resigned to the fact that he would have to make do, he sighed and changed the subject. "You think these passengers are gonna be trouble?"

"Shiny" said Kai with a smile on his face. He liked Persephone. But he liked any place more than New Melbourne. As Victoria headed off to check the cargo, Kai made his way back to the cockpit and began the preflight check. He had done this so many times he didn't even think about it now. It was almost entirely instinctual by this point in his life. His mind was already wandering to Persephone and what he could get up to there. He remembered the advice Shen had given Sera about getting off the ship for a while. If they had the time, he'd love to do just that himself. He knew the captain would probably want to get the passengers off the ship as quickly as possibly though, so that probably wasn't an option. With a flick of the comms switch, he said over the tannoy "Hold on tight boys and girls. We are out of here". As he began to take off, finally lifting the Herald away from the stench of New Melbourne, he heard the captain enter the cockpit from behind him and he half turned his head to ask "So...we pick up anyone interestin' this time 'round?"

BTW, I apologize if my translations are off. I literally just started learning Mandarin a couple of days before I discovered this rp.

Sorry Kirah, I was typing that post when you posted. I kind of edited the end so that the Captain approached him on the walkway above the cargo bay rather than the cockpit. Just so I don't have to scrap my entire post. That ok?

Finished with his current duties on the bridge, Kai decided to check on the others. His crew was the closest thing he had to a family these days. And that was just immensely depressing. Nevertheless, he had grown to like at least some of them. He swung around in his chair and strolled out towards the cargo bay where he came across Sera and Shen looking down into the bay where a few passengers were gathering. His eyes lingered on Sera for a brief moment. He wasn't entirely sure how he felt about this woman. He wasn't big on religion. Mostly because most religions had a tendency to get involved in peoples lives. Kai wasn't overly fond of anyone telling him what to do. His superiors in the military had learned that to their great annoyance. Sera seemed nice enough though, albeit a little bèiyīn...He'd keep an eye on her anyway. “Have you been out to get some fresh air before we take off? Might sicken yourself, surrounded by just the Black all the time.” he heard Shen ask Sera. "He's right you know" added Kai "I'd have taken some time out there myself if this place didn't smell so gorram bad". His attention quickly shifted when the captain approached and asked if they were good to go. "Wǒmen zhǔnbèi hǎole" he replied, informing her the ship was ready "Where we headed?"

I actually have a second question. Would it be possible to get a quick rundown of the powers of the returning characters so I don't waste my time working on a character with the same powers as an existing character?
