Sorry about being away (And the short IC post), but I'm back now and the RP looks really good so far, all your posts are really great.

Also, The Whacko, your character is accepted.
Mat was flipping through an interesting queercore zine the one of the other employees must had left the night before, thinking about how he should probably head to the video store after work and see if they had an imported copy of Chungking Express or something, when he heard the bell above the door ring, signalling that a customer had come in. Mat looked up and smiled at the man who had entered before putting down the zine and leaning against the desk. It was then when he could get a good look at the man's face and he smiled. He was definitely cute, and the type of guy Mat could go for. Looking at the records Mat knew that this wasn't really the kind of stuff he listens too all the time. He has heard it of course, but his hip-hop knowledge pretty much starts and stops at the Beastie Boys and some plunderphonics records. "Hey man, that'll be 30 dollars." He said to the man with a smile. A slight tinge of his French accent could be heard it in his voice, but Mat had mostly buried it. It's not that he was embarrassed by it or anything, it's just that through college and moving here it has slowly started to disappear.

The music in the store still played
HellOfALife, your characters are all accepted.
Mat awoke with a start, the sounds of heavily distorted guitars blaring in his ears. It was then when he realized the tune that was playing and found he had fallen asleep with MTV on again. It was the Beastie Boys' Sabotage video. He rubbed his eyes and realized that he must have been quite delusional to have slept on his couch last night, but he didn't think much of it. He turned the television off as he walked into his bedroom, a room plastered with wall to wall movie posters. Everything from Fritz Lang's M to his most recent addition, a poster for Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused. Richard Linklater was always a favourite of Mat's, he just loved how real the dialogue felt. In fact Mat had been meaning to see Before Sunrise since it came out a few weeks ago, but he hasn't found the time to see it or the people to go see it with. He hoped he would find a way to get to it before it made it's way to tape. Mat found some clothes in he closet, which was filthy as always. A mostly red plaid shirt with skinny jeans would do the trick for today. He walked into his “kitchen” and made himself a cup of instant coffee before he walked to his “living room” and placed the already half empty cup on the table while he looked at his record player. Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys was sitting on the platter, what a coincidence.

Mat was about to place the needle on the record before he realized what time it was. He ran out the door, grabbing his coat on the way, leaving the half full cup of coffee still on the table. He made his way down to the first floor and into the cold. It wasn't as freezing as Mat expected but there was still a little snow on the ground around the sides of buildings. He started to walk to work, which was luckily pretty close to his apartment.

12 Inches, 33 RPM wasn't the biggest record store in the world, but it did have a pretty great selection of indie and imported records as well as the mainstream stuff. Mat opened the door and walked in. The place was painted in a dull green colour, with a few posters advertising concerts around the area adorning the walls, and hundreds of records with everything from Hip-Hop to Punk Rock. Upstairs was a concert space that Mat was not ashamed to say had hosted a few of his not entirely legal parties over the time he's been there. Mat walked towards the desk where he would spend the next few hours. Underneath were a few records that were being held for specific customers, as well as a tape player connected to the speakers on the walls. Behind the desk was a small, obviously handmade poster that said “MISSING RICHEY EDWARDS” with this picture underneath the headline. Under the picture were the words “Anyone with information is urged to call the British authorities and NME Magazine.” Mat's boss was obviously a big Manic Street Preachers fan. Mat took his place and popped in the first tape he could find, which was surprisingly not a Beastie Boys tape. Music filled the store as Mat took a seat and began to wait.
I don't think we can have two people that look like Sufjan Stevens.

Also, IC is currently up and running.
I'm going to be away for a few days starting tomorrow (Will be back on Thursday) so I'm going to try to put the IC up tonight to get things going. All finished characters are accepted. I probably won't be able to accept more characters after tomorrow morning until I get back but there's the chance I'll be able to during the time I'm away.

I'm sorry about this, summer can be busy for me at time.

Any chance we could get an exact year and possibly month the rp starts in? So I know what VHS' I'll be pawning? Also so we can respond to events of that year? Like that could be a way to kickoff a sub narrative, like the gm could announce news bulletins '1994, it's a sunny morning in april and you wake up to the news on the radio that Kurt Cobain has been found dead', stuff like that that easily would have created an impact on the artist community, and can help create conflict or even creativity in our characters?

Alright, I'm going to say that it takes place in the winter of 1995 (Jan-Feb, not Nov-Dec), Radiohead has yet to make OK Computer, Richey Edwards has just gone missing, Elliott Smith is still alive and has released his self-titled album, and Richard Linklater has just recently released his third feature: Before Sunrise
All non-WIP characters are accepted, and all the WIPs are looking good so far. This looks like it's turning out to be a really good RP.

Perhaps? Really we should think up some core places where these characters could meet and interact, like the video store ('Video Dungeon', known for it's back room with a wide selection of gore and horror titles) and the record store that Mat works at, or whichever cafe/restaurant/coffee shop any of the characters might work at, places like that.

I agree. I know at least my character would spend a lot of time at Video Dungeon, and I'm pretty sure Deb and Corbin would spend a lot of time at the record store (Called "12 Inches, 33 RPM"). And as it looks like a lot of the characters are going to be bartenders, we could probably make one or two bars that they work at that can also be hubs. And with Annie being a waitress at a restaurant that would probably be a hub. Those are the places that characters would find each other in the most. And then other locations can be made up as they are needed by the players.

Name: Mathias "Mat" Perreault
Age: 24
Gender: Biologically male and identifies as such
Sexuality: Homosexual
Occupation: Record Store Clerk
Apartment Description: A simple one bedroom, one bathroom apartment on the 5th floor of an Avenue C apartment building. It came with a kitchen that Mat has fully stocked with instant noodles. A simple living room that Mat has furnished with a television, a record player, hundreds of imported bootleg art films on tape, quite a few records, various posters adorning the walls, and a terrible couch that would be put out to pasture if Mat could afford a new one.
Personality: Mat is what some would consider a broke socialite, he loves attending parties and meeting new people. He thinks of himself as a happy person, even when he's incredibly anxious on whether or not he'll be able to get his rent in on time and in private he's panicking like there's no tomorrow, he still tries to keep himself composed and upbeat when around others. He likes to help others, always able to lend out his couch to even complete strangers

With that said, he is incredibly stubborn, not wanting anyone to help him unless it's an absolute necessity. This is to his detriment as even if he is in dire straits and probably will be kicked out on the street, he'd rather freeze to death than ask for someone to help him with the rent.

History: Mat grew up in Toronto, Canada to a middle class French speaking family. From a young age he wanted to be a filmmaker, he idolized the classics of Kurosawa, Kubrick, and Scorcese, and he always wanted to be like them and make films that everyone would be talking about, even years after they've already come out. After high school he studied film at Ryerson University in Toronto. It was then when he saw Richard Linklater's Slacker that he knew the kind of films he wanted to make. He wanted to capture life, and the people who lived it, and what better way to do that than moving to where all life seemed to be taking place, New York City.

After graduation he packed his bags and made his way impulsively to the East Village with only a few hundred dollars to his name. He found residency in the first apartment he could get moved into. He realized that he couldn't survive here without some kind of job to keep him going so he decided he'd do something he was interested in, then he realized the video store wasn't hiring, so he decided to do something he was less interested in but still seemed like a good way to meet intriguing people and wouldn't get bored with, which was working at a record store. The job has been keeping him steady while he's tried to get his film projects off the ground, but as of yet it's mostly just a collection of footage that still needs to be pieced together to give it any kind of cohesive structure.
Sugihito and EsmetheGreat (Love your Riot Grrrl character) are accepted.

I'm going to put up my character in a few.

So are we already a group of friends? Or...? It may be difficult/slow starting to have everybody meet and start getting to know each other during the initial stages of the RP.

Yeah, I agree, I think it would be good for our characters to have some kind of relationships with each other, but not too much. Maybe like acquaintances who know each other and basic personality traits about the others but they're not all totally a tight knit group. And if there are other players that think their characters could work well together it can be figured out beforehand.
