Since I usually play in slice of life and Sci-Fi I can usually get away with just using indie musicians as my portraits. So I've used St. Vincent, the lead singer from Orchid, the lead singer from Deafheaven, and the guitarist from Pity Sex. If all else fails I'll usually resort to google searching vauge terms and scowering until I find one that's okay.
Frances was walking home from her job as an intern at the small music label that had set itself up downtown, although she wouldn't really call it an occupation or even a meaningful internship as much as she'd call it being the glorified receptionist/coffee girl. She got the gig right at the end of university and had just kind of held on to it while she tried to find some other way of employment. Her luck wasn't exactly looking up though, as most Chinese businesses would look down on hiring someone who came from out of the country.

She made her way to the small apartment where she lived and saw a package in front of her door, there was a card on top of it in an envelop with the name "Francesca" written on the envelope. Frances picked it up and fumbled with her keys for a bit before opening the door and making her way inside. The apartment was what a real estate agent would call "cozy". The walls were lined with posters from various old movies and bands as well as various photographs displaying some of her old American friends. She walked towards the living room which was trashed as usual and she placed the box on the coffee table before running her hands through her long bleached hair. She threw her light coat on the chair behind her and turned on her antique stereo. Music flooded the room as she took the envelope off the box and took out the card written in English. She began to read it

Dear Francesca,
How's China been treating you recently? I know you've had trouble there ever since you left the motherland, but I'm hoping to here that it's gotten better. We're all fine back in the good ol' US of A, your mom and dad are doing well and have been waiting to hear from you. But you can do whatever you want, I'm not going to force you to do anything or whatever.
Anyway, this thing just came out and I thought you might like it. It's really interesting like those old MMOs but with a contemporary VR twist, it's really cool and you should try it out Francesca, maybe we can get together using it or something.
Sincerely,
Vincent

Frances put the card aside and opened the box, taking out the slightly smaller box with the words Morpheus Online printed on it. She examined the box but didn't want to try it just yet, maybe she'll wait until the sun goes down.

Name: Frances Taylor
Age: 24
Gender: Female

Personality: Mostly just easygoing and not looking to pick fights with people, she's the kind of person who would rather stay in and watch a movie than go out and party. That being said, since moving away from America her social skills have not exactly been up to par with the Chinese norm and she's had to adjust to the social structure as well as the language so going out has not really been much of an option for her recently.

Likes: Old movies and music (By 2114 standards), making music, caffeinated beverages, kittens, her old friends, normal people stuff
Dislikes: Spicy food, record executives, her current occupation
Fears: An absolutely crippling fear of insects and arachnids
Dream: To become an artistically and fiscally successful musician.

The new Swans album just leaked and damn is it good, I'm not going to say it's the best album of 2014 but damn is it up there. I've never really been into Swans but this album is just fantastic, even if the only audio version out right now is only 96 kbps
This seems interesting, reserving a character slot here
"Uh, Amira..." She said, a little confused by the whole interaction, the medic seemed to work so fast she could hardly keep track and suddenly she was being hurried out of the office. Amira started on her way out of the sick bay, going into the hallway and saying "Next please" to no one in particular as she continued to walk out. When she finally made her way out of the sick bay she shrugged to herself and started skipping away, heading no place in particular but finding herself eventually on the bridge of the ship.
Weird, I thought the age range would be more adolescents but it seems that there are more young adults here than there are teenagers.

17 here by the way.
I'm currently reading Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and my god is it good so far. It's got a really interesting world that it's set up and is just overall well written so far. I can't wait to read more of it.
Amira quit fiddling around with some engine parts, her hands covered in various oils and soot, she sighed. She hated blood tests and never really understood the need for them, especially on a ragtag ship like this. She closed the compartment she had been working in and she wiped her hands off with a rag that she had brought down. They weren't at all clean, and other than the fact that most of the wet oil had been taken off, the filthy rag may have made them even dirtier.. She made her way to the sick bay and smiled as she walked in. "Hi!" She said happily as she said to the medic. "Amira Solari, at your service." Amira said, holding out her filthy, almost completely blackened hand out for a handshake.

Again I find myself listening to something considered to be "stoner music" and yet as usual I am completely sober. I dunno I think I just feel that stoner music is really chill, especially like stoner metal and stuff where it's just slow and heavy, it just sounds good to my ears I don't really know how to describe it.
